1. Looks like they all have more property rights than we do in Canada. Kind of make one question the “true north strong and free” part of our national anthem, as we are neither strong or free. A little less free every year.

5. Marc in Calgary:
   At least the Conservative government will sell the Mirabel lands back (I didn’t realize this started with Brian Mulroney). The Pickering farmers haven’t had this good fortune and the federal agency responsible for Pickering lands is now kicking tenants off the land and letting the houses (many heritage) rot so they will have to be demolished. There is almost no chance Pickering will ever be built.

6. I’m surprised to see so many from China. Are there any nail houses behind the 3 gorges dam?

   Many, but they are all underwater. You either accepted the offer the government made or watched your house submerge without compensation.

   It didn’t start with Mulroney, Mirabel opened just prior to the 1976 Olympics (don’t even get me started on that one…) and Canada had by then been subject to about 14 years of Liberal federal governance. Mulroney was P.M from 1984 -1993. These lands expropriated from citizens were held by the federal government for about 30 years before being sold back to their rightful owners. Brian Mulroney’s government had started the process of selling land back to those people in 1985, and P.M. Harper finished the job in 2006. Those years between Mulroney and Harper, were Liberal years again, and I doubt any land titles were exchanged in those years.
   Liberals did this, both the federal Liberals, and the Liberals in the Quebec provincial government. Note the lead up events before the airport being built. The federal Liberal government decreed that Montreal would be the only airport available for trans-Atlantic flights via european based airlines, in an effort to force Dorval Airport (now, P.E.Trudeau Airport) into seeming inadequate. So it had to be built. But nobody can force people to go to Montreal by air… I think it’s Mirabel Airport that should have been named P.E.Trudeau White Elephant Airport, and Dorval should have kept its original name.
