Why this blog?
Until this moment I have been forced to listen while media and politicians alike have told me "what Canadians think". In all that time they never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

Predictive programming? Conditioning kids for the day virtually anything will cause home invasion by police(AKA arbitrary arrest and detention)?
As it is now this primer to aclimatize kids to authorities in their home and breaking up their family does not just apply to inner city kids in high crime areas, these days this could be anyone.
No knock full SWAT team raids are routine anywhere there is even a suspicion of a firearm or drug sales. Of course this ignores the fact millions of Canadians peacefully and legally own firearms. Just hope you ex or neighbour isn’t vindictive and drops an anonymous tip there is a gun in your house or some joker fingers your address as a grow op – or that your kid might make a drawing of a gun at school.
Obviously a parent being arrested is a difficult situation for a child to grasp. So help me out here, what exactly is wrong with a book apparently intended to help the child through the situation?
Are other books intended to guide people through tough situations also verboten? Coping With Cancer out the window?
soooo racist, not a white rabbit in the lot:-)))
soooo racist, not a white rabbit in the lot:-)))
Kid: “Mommy, why is Dad going to jail?”
Mommy: “He came home and got upset because Mommy was in bed with another guy, so Dad got ugly and kicked the shit out of him. I`ve been telling you all along that your Dad is violent.”
Kid: “So now is your man friend going to take care of us?”
Mommy: “Unfortunately not, his wife shot him when he got home early this morning.”
Kid: “Is the wife going to jail too?”
Mommy: “No, the gun went off accidentally when she was cleaning it.”
Kid: “So who will take care of us?”
Mommy: “Social Services.”
Kid: “Who are they?”
Mommy: “The people who make sure everyone is safe.”
Kid: “I thought that was God`s job.”
Mommy: “Look kid, it`s a nice day, why don`t you go and play outside.”
The end.
Joseph, this will be happening soon enough. There already was the case in Britain where foster children were taken from their parents because the parents belonged to UKIP.
I’m kind of with mister curious on this.
It’s not a kid’s fault that their parents are law-breakers. So if someone wants to write a book to help them cope I don’t see what the harm is. I don’t see anything in the article that taxpayer money was used to produce or promote the book. So if a private individual wants to write a book and other private individuals want to spend their money to buy it, why is it anyone else’s concern?
I don’t see this as a “my two mommies” sign of the times type thing.
This should have been a DVD. The kids who need this have parents who can’t read.
Scratch that, have a mother who can’t read.
The problem is not the book, the problem is that someone thinks there is a market for it. Unfortunately, this may be correct.
What Tenebris said, and also, don’t be surprised if every child in the UK has to read it so that the one kid who might need it doesn’t feel alone.
“The Day Daddy Got Deported”
by
Un-Documented Butt Entitled
The author has probably made a decent living playing on paranoia. She is simply tapping a market for the shallow end of the gene pool. As Tenebris and Greg noted, it’s sad there’s a market that has to explain the most basic common sense.

Well, I doubt that there is going to a print run in the hundreds of thousands. A cursory walk through a bookstore will reveal that there all kinds of books for hyper-specific niche interests. This appears to fit into that category.
I guess one could legitimately oppose public funds being used to create or promote this book, but it’s not at all clear that’s the case here. Sounds like it’s just an example of someone filling a small but nevertheless existent market need. If it helps a kid put into an unfortunate position like having a parent go to jail (and I’d certainly feel for a kid in that situation), then I’m glad there is something like this book that might actually help them out, if even a little bit.
“My Mom and Sisters are Bag Ladies”
by Omar Khadr
We should send copies to Conrad Black’s kids.
A 2nd millenium take on the Berenstain Bears?
Stan & Jan Berenstain were quite successful in getting the ‘instructive method of youth bookology’ out there without having to showcase the seamier side of life.
Is ms higgins next book going to showcase a young local bunny who gets hauled up before the school tribunal for racist activities as said bunny refused to share her recess drugs with the recent immigrant goliwog rabbit from the other side of the tracks?
OK, now I get it. We project everything we don’t like on to this book.
THE NIGHT THE CHIEFS MISAPPROPRIATED BAND MONEY
THE NIGHT MOM FILED A HUMAN RIGHTS COMPLAINT WHEN MY TEACHER PUT UP A CHRISTMAS TREE
THE NIGHT DAD RAN FOR THE LEADERSHIP OF THE LIBERAL PARTY OF CANADA
Fun!
The subtle indoctrination started a long time ago. To wit: Heather Has Two Mommies
This is SO sad it brings a tear to my eye, which shows that I’m a better and more sensitive person than all you damned rednecks.
Or I shouldn’t have had that third rum and coke.
This used to be a dark joke. Not any more.
No one should normalise this sort of thing for kids. Parents are supposed to be responsible, upright people. If not, there should be a lot of head-shaking and @$$-kicking.
This book is obvious nonsense. I mean, even the title is wrong. “The night dad went to jail”. Come on! The kid doesn’t even know who Daddy is most of the time, how’s he going to know or care if the deadbeat goes to jail?
These authors need to get with the program, man. “The Night Mommy’s Current Boyfriend Went To Jail”, or maybe “The night they came and busted Mommy for check kiting”, or “When The Pigs Came To The ‘Hood”.
Besides, as somebody said above none of these books will ever be read, unless it gets made into a cartoon and put on Netflix and DVD sold in Walmart.
I really wish I was being all mean and cynical here. But I’m most likely not.
“How Daddy become a Mommy”
“Why the government made daddy poor”
“How noy to end up in jail by using unapproved words”
“How Daddy ended up in a Revolution”
“Why Daddy is evil because hes white”
” Why Mommy dumped Daddy for another Mommy”
soooo racist, not a white rabbit in the lot:-)))

the criminal and his family are brown and the policeman is white
that is no accident
leftists plan everything in details
Gee. Why do you suppose there are books like this? Could it be because kids who’s father’s go to jail are probably more likely to go to jail themselves? Might it make sense to throw a couple a bucks at a book to help kids at this formative age to figure out what’s going on in hopes of preventing this from happening to them, thus costing tax payers considerably more?
Seeing as the US has the highest incarceration rate in the world, it makes sense that somebody wrote a book to explain it to the one in 28 American children with a parent (probably the dad) in jail. Clearly there is money to be made here. Why do you guys hate the market so much?

Book is British.
“The subtle indoctrination started a long time ago. To wit: Heather Has Two Mommies

The campaign to reclaim has begun:
If Your Dad Doesn’t Have A Beard You’ve Got Two Mums
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RmFnarFSj_U
The cynicism here is warranted. The book is in the same category as grief councilors; progs who think emotions can be assuaged with people bearing platitudes and cute books. If I was the child and my Dad(and notice it’s only DAD) was sent to jail I would tell the bearer of the book to role it into a tube and stick it up their ass. Maybe it would prove to be an effective colonic for all the crazy shit that they’ve been pulling out of their ass.
UK is still in the top ten for global incarceration rates.
Noid… you might. But you might not. You might just be glad to have a chance to read something that helps you understand what’s going on.
Yeah, it sucks, but books like this are more likely to help than hurt.
And guys… stop being mad about books that normalize Gays. If you had read one as a kid, you probably wouldn’t be such a messed up human being. Get over it. (Unless of course, this whole Gay marriage thing has ruined your marriage, making you want to run off to the nearest bathhouse. In that case… you might have even more issues than expected)

What about “The Night MOMMY Went to Jail”?
Oh, yeah, right, I forgot: it’s ALWAYS Dad who goes to jail.
The basic problem with this book is that it’s only useful if you already have it when Daddy is taken to jail. Buying it after the fact is rather pointless; by then, it makes much more sense to just deal with the specific situation one-on-one with the child, rather than handing them a book and saying “here, this will help”.
And who is going to buy this book and have it sitting in their home waiting to be used? Is someone who’s a lawbreaker (or potential lawbreaker) really going to be thinking “gee, shouldn’t I be prepared to help my child deal with me getting dragged off to jail?”
There’s nothing necessarily wrong with the book itself, but the likelihood of it actually being helpful is rather small. It smacks of being a “feel-good” effort on the part of someone who deosn’t want to have to deal with the matter themself.
What Joey W said and shut up, John.
