This Is Awkward

Allison Redford accused of lying in conflict of interest case.

“Hi Barb, can you confirm with Jeff and modify as needed — get the letters to the losers confirmed and ready to go. You can sign for me. Speak to Lorne about the winners and the timing with the letters.”

Oops.
Update: Audio of Redford’s media scrum a few minutes ago here.

  1. All day I have been listening to different talk show hosts talking about this. I noticed the hosts saying things like “misrepresented the truth, did not speak truthfully, misspoke the truth was not truthful etc. Not one of them had the courage to point out the fact that REDFORD LIED. I didn’t know there is a difference between a LIE and “misspeaking the truth”.

  2. The difference is by saying one of the two words is whether or not YOU will be cutting a cheque as a retainer for YOUR legal counsel.

  3. Ah…ya gotta love it when pretend conservatives get caught out in a “misspoken truth”,(with appologies to Rob C)
Actually when any politico gets caught out in a LIE.
Looks good on you Allie …can we come to your going away party?!

  4. did you notice that as the lying Premier sits down she mouths the words starting with F___…oh yeah watch carefully, she is just fuming.

  6. It’s nice to see WR holding the twitchy “Red Queen” from the UN accountable, wish we had a WR out here in BC. In BC we don’t even have an elected Premier, just some clown nit-wit that play acts as Premier and doesn’t like the inconvenience of answering questions in the legislature, so she shuts it down… makes it easier to get out and campaign that way.

  7. Rob Ford uses the wrong letterhead and gets canned and Red Ali hands out a multi-million dollar contract and tells the Opposition to do something involving sex and travel? Not much equivalence here.

  8. Man, nice to see Danielle going for the jugular…just like ‘Tiger’ Tim does with McDinky.

  9. Is anybody from Alberta having buyer’s remorse with your premier Allison Redford?
She is the female version of the one and only Ontario premier, Duffus McGoofy.
    Good luck with that.

  10. don’t blame me, i voted W.R. They were the only one to come to the door, well before the last day of the election.
hard to believe, albertans knew the pc’s were ‘corrupt, entitled, incestuous, bullies, lazy, liberals-in-disguise’. yet enough voted em in.
Oxymoron-lawyers are qualified to be political leaders.
One only need morals, horse sense, and a good sense of “smell”.

  11. corruption in high places and corruption in low places, nothing new under the sun. follow the money. the ‘love’ of money is the root of all ‘EVIL’

  12. Nurse ratchet got busted by the CBC,you know someone is gonna get run off at the CBC for that slip up

  13. youhavegottobekidding, I believe the word is “Fuddle duddle”. Redford is a Tory in name only. She is as lieberal as her brethren in the centre of the universe and Quebec. Alberta is starting to tank as fast as Ontario did when Harris left. Look, free money for the divine ruling party to spend.

  14. scientists r now using lawyers instead of white rat’s for their experiments. The scientists became to attached to the white rats and there’s some thing’s even rat’s won’t do.

  15. Ah CBC. The veritable sea of sharks smelling blood. Not that they care one whit for the welfare of the general public at large.

    Your tax dollars at work.

  16. And notice how the CBC hands all the credit to the NDP? They lead with Mason making a “stern” statement that he expects the premier to step aside, then a few sentences later say; “Several hours earlier, similar accusations were made by the Wildrose Party.” Whatever. You know what the say about barn doors and horses. This is just the NDP giving credit where they think it should be due. Lying b@stards.

  17. No one even blinks as the goberment once AGAIN goes after billions from the evil “big tobacco”. That is the REAL corruption. There are armies of trial lawyers waiting to feed like pigs at a trough ….. her (ex)husband’s firm is called “International Tobacco Recovery Lawyers”! That says it all. We’ve seen this in the U.S. Millions go to lawyers, prices on cigarettes go up, NOT ONE THING ELSE is changed. Absolutely corrupt!!! Her sin is she collaborated with the trial lawyers and I’m certain gained their political support and money.

  18. is it illegal if another lawyer arranged it as part of their divorce settlement. how did we ever let so many of these immoral lawyers get into government . its a universal sickness

  19. Sorta ironic that the lefties attack dogs are in full tongue….not realizing that the Alta tories are CINOS…actually LIBRANOs.
    About lawyers….the more things change….
“First we hang all the lawyers.”
    William Shakespeare …Henry the IV..part 2

  20. Canadian members of the lefty sisterhood of the UN’s third world gravy train
missionaries of business regulation and commercial lawgivers might be liars?
Doesn’t seem possible for this their highest rising star or any of the others.
    .

  21. Someone called her Redfraud the other day.
    i would have to agree.
she is a u.n. loveing liebral crook.
Daniel did her best to point that out before the election, to bad none was paying attention.

  22. Don’t blame me, I voted Wildrose.
You see, I’m wasn’t too stupid to allow false threats of moral and social “hellfire” scare me away from selecting a true conservative party, whose leader DRIPS of character and integrity.

  23. Danielle is coming around from that short video. Very well spoken and photogenic. Give her a couple years and she will be premier. Redford on the other hand….

  24. I voted against a very decent Conservative candidate in our riding and instead cast my vote for an unproven WR chap (who as it turns out is a very decent guy).
But I voted WR because I met the Conservative candidate at a meet-and-greet with Alison Redford. I had never shook hands with a rattlesnake before. I wouldn’t trust her as far as I could throw her. And she hasn’t shown me anything that would change my assessment.

  25. Look at my comments after the election in in Alberta. We lost our soul as a truth loving Province that was independent for a huckster who learned at the feet of the Money grubbers at the UN.
A confirmed socialist in a corrupt Party.
    Yet Albertans voted for her.
Knowing this all the time. There are no excuses for the people who bowed to Statism. Except how much are they getting from others sweat?

  26. Hey, Frank Q. at November 29, 2012 8:11 PM, you’re right. She does look like she’s playing from Ontario McSquinty’s playbook. At this rate the leg will be prorogued pdq.

  27. I voted Wild Rose. But I know for a fact that, at least in my area, lots of people voted Conservative because they thought if they didn’t, the flow of goodies would stop. Yes – Alberta has been bought.
I just hope in another 3 years or so, the decision will be different. I have seen the provincial Conservatives as past their “best buy” date for about a decade. And in the last election we had a viable, true conservative alternative to vote for. While I didn’t buy the threats of hellfire and brimstone, I think enough people did to dramatically change the results of the election – so it was a combination of fear of extreme social conservatism, + the people who didn’t want to lose their goodies.
Hopefully in the next election, Danielle will have done the background checks a little better on the candidates…..
To get rid of Redford before the next election – we can only dream. But I agree – Rob Ford getting tossed for something that must seem trivial, even to the lefties, and then Redford not getting tossed for the various corruptions that are coming to light – hard to think about without getting really, really angry.

  28. Ken (Kulak);
You suggest the Quebec disease has now established itself in Alberta. I have felt for some time that political corruption has existed across the country back before confederation. Read “The History of Booze in Western Canada”. A real eye opener.
As each generation passes the pretence of ethics in government and in personal relationships becomes weaker. On what basis do people make moral judgments? I argue they have no basis. Religious influence is all but gone and the education system doesn’t teach right from wrong.
Wild Rose is a off-spring of the Reform movement. Political accountability was forced through riding associations that had the power to stop carpet baggers from infilitrating the party. This system required a motivated constituency which is vigilant. I find it amusing that when conservative parties like the Alberta PC’s lose their direction that conservatives automatically blame liberal forces infilitrating and influencing political direction. In this particular case this fear is probably true. I suggest, however, that there is a very large segment of society who actively pursue positions in politics to profit from whatever they can get. The infrastructure of government is very aware that politicans are transitory and if not corruptable will be gone in time anyway.

  29. If there are any enterprising journalists, Wild Rose staffers, or bloggers out there, I would recommend that they look into the relationship between the Premier and the law firm in question beyond the tobacco stuff. I’m not suggesting anything, I’m just saying you might find out some interesting things….

  30. Alberta is starting to look like Quebec.
Per capita government expenditure in Quebec is lower than in Alberta.

  31. Caught a TV clip showing one of the documents as signed by Nurse Redford pertinent to this scandal.
As an amateur graphologist I was intrigued by her personally penned signature – Shows some traits that concern me – primarily obfuscation.
Redford’s Myers-Briggs assessment would make for a most interesting read.

  32. Redfords tirade on the Calgary Herald clip sounds like the character “Eric Sratton” in the movie animals house when Stratton gives his closing fraternity expulsion defence to the student body and dean Wormer. The similarities are hillarious.

  34. She made the mistake of replying right at the beginning…..she could have said she could not remember unless she looked at her notes on this….now she can’t say that….she is toast I do believe…..it will make the CBC happy…./////
