Why this blog?
Until this moment I have been forced to listen while media and politicians alike have told me "what Canadians think". In all that time they never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

Maaaaa! Kate’s been getting into the sauce again!

First O’Bummer wins and now this!
It would appear that the distribution of this blue green algae is worldwide. The photos included in the web site I looked at show “mares eggs” growing on bare soil:
http://www.algaebase.org/search/species/detail/?species_id=32582
This is run-of-the-mill pond scum, found anywhere…
Mare’s Eggs sound like a fine veggie side dish for Prairie Oysters.
Cartwright watched his Mare’s Eggs become exposed. Cartwright realized that there was little time to spare before the eggs would begin to die.
MY HERO
Seriously this does not surprise me. A man, after all has to save his only friends.
Who paid for the dam?
Aren’t those the same things they use to help divert floodwaters?
Fill with water and badabing, a wall.
Another inspirational story I can’t wait to tell my grandkids at bedtime.
I’ll get all choked up on Kim Kardashian’s wedding, then hit ’em with this!
Saving algae? Pond scum and algae?
oh well, given the dirction that our civilization is going, that’s pretty much all that will be left worth saving soon…
bethesdaguy, you said it all. With all the problems that this world has we’re concerned about saving pond scum. Where will the stupidity end?
According to Cartwright, the Bureau was very responsive. Since they considered this a “natural resource issue,” the Bureau sent Mike Green, at that time a field biologist on the lake, to assess the situation.
WELL, the bold stuff will keep me smiling for the rest of the weekend. Regulatory-busybodies are nothing if not responsive! (to silly things).
Related: West Point Grey, Vancouver. I jog by a reclamation of sorts: a swamp, with lotsa warning and self-congratulory signs. It always amsues me to confront liberal affection for a … SWAMP.
I wonder how the people of Africa would take to saving pond scum that breeds malaria ridden mosquitoes? Save the world for the lowly mosquito….
darn, i fell for your warning. hook, line and sinker, that’s only because it got caught in the algae/
The suspense in this nail biter was overwhelming but I did get through it with fresh appreciation for heroes like Mike Green. The courage he showed in saving these poor , threatened pond (little round people like things with smiley faces)balls will almost guarantee a major EPA award and a personal invitation for supper at the White House. I hope the public appreciates the valor and dedication shown here and sees the need for many more people like Mike to defend the countless ponds across this great nation. Defenseless scum could be rising and who would be better at understanding and supporting scum. Take heart little round people things with smiley faces because hope and change is on the way, as well as many badly needed regulations. The Green lobby and Hollywood will support you. Forward.
Nostoc pruniforme (Mare’s eggs) are cynobacteria previously known as blue-green algae. While this species has not been extensively studied, the literature seems to indicate they are far from rare or limited in their distribution. Also, desiccation does not seem to kill these creatures. Consequently, I have concluded that this article is about people who are well meaning but don’t know their ass from third base.
Well, I’ll be dammed!
The project would have been completed sooner, but the non union dam builders were turned away
