The Obama administration has pinpointed a new hotbed of racism:
President Johnson was calling on Congress to pass the Voting Rights Act in order to end the South’s century-long obstruction of black suffrage. What was the pervasive racial injustice that led Duncan to present himself as a modern-day Johnson? Black elementary and high school students are disciplined at a higher rate than whites are. To Duncan, that disparity can mean only one thing: schools are discriminating.
And so the Departments of Education and Justice have launched a campaign against disproportionate minority discipline rates, which show up in virtually every school district with significant numbers of black and Hispanic students. The possibility that students’ behavior, not educators’ racism, drives those rates lies outside the Obama administration’s conceptual universe. But the country will pay a high price for the feds’ blindness, as the cascade of red tape and lawsuits emanating from Washington will depress student achievement and enrich advocates and attorneys for years to come.
Now that teachers are, themselves, being called racist, one wonders if their support for the Democrat Party will change in the voting booth?

Students in the “over-punished” group, can now dry-hump classmates with wild abandon, knowing that nothing can be done until their white and asian peers are equally punished for practicing penmanship with a dull pencil.

This is the scariest US election ever IMO. If the hard core Obamist lefties get another term in the President’s office and Congress, it will be difficult for even a powerful economy such as the US to recover from three straight administrations’ obscene borrowing, especially given an aging population.
China is waiting in the wings, selling, among other things, wind turbines (they are responsible for 40% of worldwide production) to the US , which is paying for them with borrrowed money, with the Chinese gleefully buying up government debt (higher on debtor food chain then equity, so much more dangerous than foreign ownership), to firmly replace the US as the economic superpower and template for the world. As a sideline, China will attempt to purchase Canadian energy companies.
Hold on tight Canada, we’ll be fine, as long as we don’t do something stupid like elect a statist Mulcair or Trudeau government, but it will be a rough ride. Advice: don’t invest one penny outside Canada for the foreseeable future.

This scandalous attitude towards discipline—e.g., forget it, especially for the kids who need it most—has been happening in Canada for over two decades: all related to the cowardly and hypocritical educational establishment’s fear of Charter-based litigation. “Coddle the worst kids and hang up the teachers (and everyone else)” is the not-too-surprising result. Despicable—and so is the affirmative action president who’s peddling this dangerous junk.

The earth has been emerging from an ice age for the past 10,000 years.
Solar activity contributes to the cyclical nature of a changing climate.
Any activity by human beings contributes in a small part to environmental changes.
This ‘right winger’ believes in living a minimalist lifestyle and understands each individual is responsible for his own actions. In other words, I don’t get into collective guilt.
Where we may differ is the degree to which humans contribute to these natural changes which are a byproduct of living a productive life.
Pardon me for living, but what percentage of climate change do you believe humans cause?
I’ll start it off by saying less than 5%.
IIRC several years ago the head of policing in the U.K. called for mandatory DNA testing of all Brits. Apparently some ethnic groups were over represented in the database (i.e. arrested or found guilty of a crime) and this was deemed discriminatory. I’m not sure what happened with this story but it’s the same as this topic – punish the innocent for the actions of the guilty.

Schools will have to equalize rates of discipline by age and sex as well as race. Punish white female kindergarteners at the same rate as black male high school students. We’re all equal now!

Funny isn’t it, how the largest teacher’s union is silent on this issue? That’s because they are a branch of the Democrat Party, first, and the job for which they receive coerced union dues, representing teachers is but a distant afterthought. As far as the union being silent about this, it is not surprising, as the Russian unions were also supportive of the Soviet regime or neutral and before they realized what was happening they were taken over and became just another organ in the communist machine.

You’re right, any decent teacher with an ounce of sense would do as you say.
But we’re not dealing with people like that. We’re dealing with the kind of teacher that is happy to take the money and feels no shame in not doing the job.
What will happen fairly soon will be this. Teaching jobs will be given to friends, relatives and etc. of party apparatchiks. These people will not actually -go- to the school, they will just take the money. The schools will be allowed to pretty much fall down, all the massive tax funds meant to repair them will be siphoned off to build cottages and buy boats (or b00ze, bl0w and h00kers) for party apparatchiks.
Black and Hispanic ghetto kids won’t get any schooling. At all. They’ll get shot by the cops if they show up in the rich apparatchik-owned areas and ignored the rest of the time.
We’ve already seen this show. It was called the Soviet Union. It didn’t end well, but some of those guys lived really high on the hog for a long time while it crumbled.

Phantom, I saw this in a program on Detroit schools a few months ago. The kids sat in classrooms with no teachers and no books while the school board just collected their pay and did nothing except squabble among themselves. A well experienced administrator hired to clean up the education problem was bounced around by the board, finally he was forced to quit.
It was just disheartening to watch.
In Ontario you are watching a master manipulator in Dolton McLiar as he deals with the school unions. It a win/win for him as if they don’t sign the contracts with their phony salary freeze he will say he tried his best. If they do sign he will claim success in beating down the unions. I disagree with all of the premises posited.
The goal, as it always has been for the extreme left (and they are now in control of those levers), to foster permanent power through a pre-trained populace. If you train enough children for a long enough period, it becomes self-fulfilling.
They started this in the 50’s in the Soviet Union. Didn’t work out so well in the long run, no creativity it seems and nobody wants to have children because they know they’ve failed already.

Melinda, not to be too picky, but actually the propaganda and brainwashing of children in the Soviet Union began in the early 1920s when teachers who would not or balked at teaching the Communist party lines of atheism and utopian socialism were fired from their positions. Later, in the late 1920s, they were arrested and sent to labour camps for re-education.
This is the most blatant piece of idiocy that the Obozo administration has come up with. If there was ever a recipe for a race war, this is it. Fallout from implementation of this policy will make Columbine seem like a minor dispute among students.
I believe this policy is unconstitutional at the very least. I also believe it should be rigidly implemented in the NBA; blacks make up 20% of the US population and only 20% of NBA players should be black and all players paid equally. Similarly, in the NFL the proportion of black players should immediately be reduced to 20%. Might be a problem in hockey finding blacks who even know how to put on a pair of skates, but penalties should be assessed equally on both teams playing and all players should be paid exactly the same amounts.
I think rephrasing it in terms that the terminally stupid can understand might get this policy the ridicule it deserves. The originators of this policy, at the very least, should be tarred and feathered before being sent to jail for planning large scale violations of students constitutional rights.
