  1. Zimmerman’s interview tonight with Hanity is pretty damn credible. Pretty clear he was fighting for his life against a hood rat piece of trash. Obama’s son.

“HSBC apologized Tuesday for failing to apply anti-laundering rules and one senior executive resigned, as lawmakers accused the global bank of giving Iran, terrorists and drug dealers access to the US financial system.”
    Apologies!
    Oh the HUMANITY!
A kid stealing a pair of sneakers out of Walmart goes to jail. No apologies accepted.
But global bankers conspiring with drug smugglers and terrorists have to apologize.
Meanwhile, Mr. America stands meekly watching his daughter, his wife and his mother being diddled at the airport.

  3. BBC reporters opine on why openly Salafist / Islamic fundamentalists failed to get a majority of party seats in Libya:
“The number of people who found the mere existence of religious parties an offensive concept was astonishing.
“‘We’re all Muslims here! Who do they think they are preaching to us? They’re not more religious than us’ were common reactions heard in cities.
“Libyans are ultimately tired of ideological preachers – they endured it for more than 40 years with Col Gaddafi’s eccentric and confusing semi-Islamic, socialist ramblings.”

  5. Have a look at two stories Glenn Reynolds (www.instapundit.com) has up for July 18 — “Pelosi: House Democrats should skip the national convention” and “DNC regrets offending Ann Romney, no more horse ads”. The former is self-explanatory, while the latter talks about how the DNC has dropped plans to use video of Mrs. Romney’s dressage horse dancing as cover for a series of ads complaining about Mitt not releasing his tax returns, etc. As nothing is ever quite as innocent or straightforward as it seems with these people (in particular, it’s not really in their sledgehammer nature to finesse anything), I’d suggest that a change in electoral strategy is in the offing — driven by unfavourable internal organized research results.
Since they appear headed for a bad time in the House this fall anyway (and there have already been a number of embarrassing reports at Drudge about congressional Democrats not attending the convention), Pelosi may have been sent out there to throw the House caucus under the bus; this part of the change in strategy may be intended to try to divert at least some of the GOP focus (particularly the Tea Party) away from the presidential race. The Democrats may have decided that they will have to live with another 2010-style defeat — and since the Tea Party is allegedly not that happy with Mitt, why not try to play on that division?
As far as the withdrawal of the horse ads is concerned, it may be that the feedback from the marketplace is that Obama’s over-reach against Mitt and general divisiveness is somewhere between ineffective and back-firing (IMO, the current strategy is dangerously unpredictable and exudes a bad odour of desperation). This could presage a more conciliatory approach by Obama — which may already be happening, what with kissin’ the bride and havin’ a beer at the basketball game — Aw shucks, he’s just one of the guys.
The combination of these two developments could look something like: “since we’re going to have a Republican House and, possibly, Senate, we’d better have a Democratic president to make sure that the situation in Washington is balanced.” Whatever that means.

  6. I wish you every success in showing and stay safe in Texas and on the road, Kate!
    Meanwhile Kate,
posted below is an email (sent yesterday) to my MP Dave MacKenzie for Oxford County, Ontario and is self explanatory:
    ……………………………….
    ………………………………..
Attention Dave MacKenzie, MP for Oxford County, Ontario.
    Hi Dave,
Dave, I am dismayed that my tax dollars via the Government of Canada are slated for a statue of the Canadian communist, Dr. Norman Bethune in the riding of Hon. Tony Clement.
    Say it isn’t so Dave!
My parents came to Canada in the 1920’s at the urging of the CPR corporation, but also to leave the communism then fomenting in Europe.
    Communism is evil incarnate.
If the Honourable Clement is so enamoured with communism, perhaps he should join and plead dual citizen and communist, Tom Mulcair leader of the ND’s to pay for his adored communist, Bethune.
    Tony Clement needs educating.
As you know I was a REFORMER in Woodstock – Oxford, recruited here in Woodstock by Patrick Muttart.
I am urging you Dave, to please, with your MP cohorts and publicly take a stand against any of Canadian tax dollars going to erect a commie statue in this country!
    I AM,
    Joseph (Joe) Molnar

  8. …the eurozone crisis has intensified a deep-rooted debate about whether Germans, shaped by Protestantism, are fundamentally different from Catholic “Latin” countries and their allies.
German banking has, from medieval times, been more cautious than that in Italy and Spain. And sceptical Germans looking at the history of previous currency union troubles point to the 19th Century Latin Currency Union.
Germany, unifying under Prussian leadership through its own customs union, did not join. The Latin Union struggled to survive after a number of countries, notably the Papal States, minted and printed more money than they were meant to.
One German commentator, Stephan Richter, has suggested mischievously that the eurozone’s problems would have been prevented if only Luther had been one of the negotiators of the Maastricht treaty, deciding which countries could join the euro.
“‘Read my lips: No unreformed Catholic countries,’ he would have chanted. The euro, as a result, would have been far more cohesive,” says Richter.
Richter is himself a Catholic, but an admirer of thrifty economics. “Too much Catholicism” he suggests, “is detrimental to a nation’s fiscal health, even today in the 21st Century”.

“WIND ENERGY : Thames Valley District school board balks at holding meeting at which NextEra Energy would discuss plans for a 38-turbine installation”\
“A wind-turbine meeting for the Strathroy area is once again homeless — for the fourth time — after the Thames Valley District school board balked at being host to the politically charged gathering.
NextEra Energy Canada had booked Adelaide-W.G. MacDonald school for an open house for Aug. 13, to discuss its plans for a 38-turbine installation nearby.
But the Thames Valley board this week nixed the contract, saying “(it) was not our intention” to be drawn into the political debate. “We’re frustrated, I think disappointed more than anything else, because we know that there are people out there that want to have dialogue with us, that want to give us feedback,” NextEra spokesperson Steven Stengel said. “There have been a number of roadblocks in front of us in trying to get this meeting scheduled.”
Another session will be scheduled somewhere else, he said.
That means the planned open house is not only homeless, but also dateless.”

  14. why no rolling blackouts in Ontario ,according to CBCpravda
That falling demand is a reflection of, among other things, the decline in the economy. Ontario’s industrial and manufacturing sectors took a big hit with the international downturn in 2008, and less power is needed after companies scaled back or shut down operations.
“One of the biggest things that’s changed is that some of the big industrial consumers have either left the province or have downscaled and are no longer using nearly as much power,” says Warren Mabee, an energy policy expert and professor in the department of geography and school of policy studies at Queen’s University in Kingston, Ont.
“And that just means that there is more power to go around.”

  15. Two Straight Halifax men shocked over their wedding announcement in Chronicle Herald
    This is soooo funny!!
The ad features a photo of two young men, one with his arm wrapped around the other, under a heading reading “Cooper – Rogers Engagement.”
The ad is set alongside numerous other photos of legitimate couples announcing their upcoming nuptials, or anniversaries, and describes them as “committed partners of over five years.”
It also lists the schools they attended as well as their parents’ names.
But as it turns out, the announcement was meant as a joke by someone poking fun at the men.
    From the comments….
    Linda In Vancouver
“I think it’s stupid. I think it’s childish. I think it’s lame,” said Halifax Pride spokesperson Neville MacKay. Anyone notice that the Halifax Pride spokesperson uses the term “lame” to describe this stunt? For people in the disability community, using the term “lame” to describe something negative is offensive. You would think that a spokesperson for a community of people who are sensitive to the term “gay” being used to describe something negatively would be more careful with their own word choices.

Warning, the one psychiatrist starts out with this reply to the question, “What’s the threat potential Khadr may pose to Canadians?”.
Xenakis: It is between zero and one per cent. It is as low as it can be. He is not a threat by any stretch of the imagination.

  18. jwkozak91 The Hennessey at the block party is astonishing. My community just had a block party and we got burgers and hot dogs. Really, where did the money come to pay for this? Probably city, maybe some local businesses, but there are clearly some signs of a disfunctional community if they are serving this stuff at local block party.

  19. Joe Molnar: I went to an exhibit on Bethune a couple of years ago in Montreal. It was very interesting. I guess if you spent time deducing you would figure out he was a Communist, but it was not the focus and there was a lot of stuff that did not relate to political perspectives at all. He was an interesting person. I think it is always a mistake to judge historical figures with today’s yardstick. Bethune may way have repudiated his views if he had understood the destructiveness of the Communist regime. Apart from that he really is an interesting person and deserves recognition — certainly not adulation, but I think the centre is simply recognizing a great person. Lots of great people have unsavory aspects to them (Winston Churchill for example, Nixon, Trudeau.) We need to separate the past from the present and be gracious in acknowledging humanitarian accomplishments. I agree with Clement. The centre is not about Bethune’s politics; it is about his other accomplishments. And — it’s a tourist thing for the region. Lots of Chinese have money to travel these days and Tony’s riding deserves some of it.

  20. Hey LindaL, I will NEVER, NEVER, ever graciously accept as a Canadian, my tax dollars having been extracted from me by the STATE to finance ( via Canadian “healthcare” – abortion, Dr.Morgenthalers’ specialty) or erecting a statue to communism ( Dr. Bethune, misguided commie) even as, both were learned practitioners, in the art of healing.
Abortion and communism, both evil on this human plane of existence!
