Alison Redford has been very open with promising billions of Alberta taxpayer dollars in order to buy the upcoming election. What Premier Mom hasn’t been very upfront about is where her true political stripes lie. Lorrie Goldstein’s new column casts a much needed spotlight on Redford’s facade:
It’s time for Progressive Conservatives across Canada to admit what they really are. Which is Liberals. The problem with Progressive Conservatives is they aren’t really Conservatives. In fact, they secretly (and often not so secretly) yearn for the approval of Liberals.
The problem with seeking the approval of Liberals, as conservative blogger Kate McMillan notes at the top of her popular blog, smalldeadanimals.com, is that “pleasing your enemies does not turn them into friends.”
All it does is tell people that if you’re prepared to stand for everything, you’ll fall for anything.

So nice to see columnists making money stealing Kate’s lines. At lest he gave a plug.
The name “Progressive Conservative” irks me so much. Hopefully Albertans have awakened and seen the light on this one.
Alison the Red won the leadership promising teachers cash. Now she is trying to bribe voters with obscene billions of their own cash. She really has no clue how to manage anything. Two more weeks and she’s gone. I actually am going to miss my MLA because he does a great job. I guess he should have figured out a way to keep Redford out.
Says it all about the Red witch of communism. Particularly her idea of rights. Taken from the “peoples”court of communist Vietnam. Along with her views of human rights kangaroo courts, we know she is left of Mao. Sge just pretended to care about conscience rights till her cover was blown. What else are these None Conservatives hiding in their nest?
One of Redford’s most notable appointments was by the Secretary-General of the United Nations as one of the four International Election Commissioners to administer Afghanistan’s first parliamentary elections held in September 2005. Political issues in the elections program within Alberta at that time were under question by the Elections Commissioner. She also served as an adviser to the Privy Council Office on Canada’s future involvement in Afghanistan subsequent to the elections.[citation needed]Her work has included assignments in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Namibia, Uganda, Zimbabwe, Mozambique and the Philippines. Before her most current post, Redford managed a judicial training and legal reform project for the Ministry of Justice and the Supreme People’s Court in Vietnam

She’s progressive , conservative , not so much .
Today, Dave Rutheford had a guy from the taxpayer federation on his show, talking about the promises that different parties are making.
The organization is doing some calculations on the promises.
Anyway, the funny named progressive conservatives added up to over 3 Bill’s in spending, as though they did not have time to do those things in the past 40 years.
An interesting thing happened, after talking about the 3B+, while on a commercial break the taxpayer federation guy got a call from an apparatchik of the socialist conservatives that the spending actually would happen only if there was no deficit. Rutheford picked on it right away and could not believe it. Up to that point nobody knew that. Could this be called a “secret agenda”?
As is usual for the socialist conservative’s of late, if they need support for their wild, wacky and out of this world plans, who do you think they turn to.
Well, to the teachers of course. While that may work for getting to be a leader of the socialist conservatives, they miss the point that the rest of the province’s population are a crushing majority non teachers.
There is a debate tonight, we will see who speaks the truth.
Game on…
No conservatives left in the Alberta PC party. I has gotten so bad that at least one PC, cabinet member Heather Klimchuk is no longer using the Alberta PC logo or colors. She must be ashamed to be part of Redford’s party. She sent out a fund raising letter using the federal CPC logo. The federal CPC is reported to be unhappy but may not deal with it until after the election.
Alberta’s Tories are as Red as the Grits?
You owe the Alberta Liberal Party an apology! I’m not a Liberal supporter, but their economic platform is actually far more fiscally responsible than that of the PCs. The headline should read “Alberta’s Tories way more Red than the Grits”.
Soccermom.. They should be the “zig-zag” Party.. Lefty-righty..The Marcher’s
So I gather there will be a ‘do-over’ for the PC party signage.
Say something like:
Alison REDford more RED than you bargained for….!
Cheers

Not forgetting the Danielle Bucks are you?
Hey Kate. Has Sun News asked you to come work for them yet?? lol
While true that federal Conservatives are Liberals, the Alberta Tories under Redford are going Orange Crush!
I will be watching the debate tonight (on Sun News of course.. wink wink)
One other thought: Ms. Redford’s desperate spending spree continued today with free insulin pumps for type I diabetics. My daughter is on an insulin pump, so I can give some comment on this.
The pump costs $7000, and it has been a great thing for our daughter. However having the govt pay for pumps is not as simple a fix as advertised: infusion sets and other supplies for it cost us over $300 per month. In other jurisdictions where pumps are paid for, some pts get their $7000 pump and then only use it for a month or two because of the cost of supplies.
Don’t get me wrong, my family would benefit greatly from the government wanting to help us with the costs of diabetes management. And the health care system would certainly benefit long-term if diabetics had better blood glucose control, because that means less complications later in life. But the plan as announced is poorly thought out.
Most disappointing is the realisation that the PC government didn’t give a damn about my family or this issue for the last four years, but suddenly two weeks before the election, they claim to care. Excuse me if I sound cynical about their motives…
PC= PROGRESSIVE CAMOUFLAGE, it’s the only way Lib’s can get seats in Alberta.
Lev: they are just making $hit up on the fly. Redford has been conducting business that way ever since she became party leader.
My son served the local PC candidate a cup of coffee the other day and asked him how campaigning was going. The candidate almost bit my son’s head off. As my son surmised “not good huh”
PCs not gone soon enough!
Joe: care to tell which riding? I’d love to know…
In the debate Raj Sherman is running with the promise of a tax increase. Maybe he is as loopy as his Conservative buddies said. The problem in not revenue. The problem is spending.
Raj is Liberal leader.
“It’s time for Progressive Conservatives across Canada to admit what they really are. Which is Liberals.”
Boy! Glad we don’t have that kind of problem with our Ontario PCs…they’re not Liberals..they’re more like InDeepers.
Hey, what’s up with Alison Redford’s eyes? Her eyes are popping like popcorn whenever she is listening to something she doesn’t like.
Gord Turk it happened in Kevin Taft’s old riding. It will likely return a liberal again.
Redford referred to California as a wealthy state. She would have us emulate California…Good grief.
Joe: that riding has a female pc candidate. The polling I’m looking at has it a dead heat between the LP/PC/WP. It’s one of the few ridings that could be decided by how the debate goes. IOW not well for the LP.
What Goldstein didn’t acknowledge is that every Sun yahoo and every small dead yahoo is a Liberal as well, just all the more odious for their hypocritical denial of that reality.
Phil, just admit it. This is masturbation for you isn’t it?

As a dispassionate outsider watching the Alta debate, Ms Smith comes out the winner. Controlled, calm and sticking the knife in at the right time. Interesting to note she used the Harper technique of looking at the camera instead of the opponent.
The NDP leader surprised me in coming across as a reasonable man. I don’t agree at all with his resource royalty platform, but he didn’t completely embarass himself.
Raj is a robot. Earnest but not an original thought in is head.
Redford is finished. Even if she hangs onto a minority, she is done. Evil, shreiking hag.
Well I wouldn’t call it masturbation, but SDA proving daily that there ain’t no hypocrite like a rightwing hypocrite is not without it’s entertainment value.
Correct …. Red Alison is done……….
Remember these?..What do you call a man with no arms and no legs standing in a hole…. Phil!!!
Dumb, but then ….
Red Alison Came out of the debate, looking like the empress with no cloths.
All Wild-rose had to do was look creditable , which they did in spades.
A vote for the PC means a vote for Socialists with a bag of swag.
Not being from AB I’m not very familiar with its politicians, but Redford looked really familiar to me during the debate. Then it dawned on me – she looks just like Sheila Copps without the screech and (visible) anger issues. IOW – like a true Lieberal.
A REDmonton poll that needs some help:
http://www.edmontonjournal.com/news/Poll+Alberta+leaders+debate/6450297/story.html
A.Cooper’s summary is pretty much to represent the sense one gets.
Smith looked comfortable in her skin.
Sherman is an attention seeker.
The new so called “democrat” is a socialist demagogue.
Margaret Thatcher was an admirable person, Margaret Thatcher was solid as a rock, Margaret Thatcher was a solid conservative, Allison Redford is no Margaret Thatcher.
The “Who Won the Debate?” poll in the Edmonton Journal could use a little SDA tweaking……
http://www.edmontonjournal.com/news/Poll+Alberta+leaders+debate/6450297/story.html
Sorry, Rete, I missed your entry. Double tweaking should be better, though.
Phil……..your right in my case I am a liberal in the classical meaning of the word. I believe in LIBERTY. Less gov’t in my life more of my hard earned money in my pockets.
.your right in my case I am a liberal in the classical meaning of the word. I believe in LIBERTY. Less gov’t in my life more of my hard earned money in my pockets
Oh sure you are. I know that’s what you preach…I’m talking about what you practice.
So Phil, sweetie, how’s about telling us what you practice? We already know what you preach.
Man up and state your case, or shut up.
