Good parallel, but you know all you have to do is go back to last year and watch Hudak seize defeat from the very jaws of victory. The same maroons who were working for Hudak must have hopped on a plane and flew out west.
The PCs are just pink-underwear suits. They pretend Conservatism, but after the doors close and the real deals get made, they’re bigger socialists than the Liberals. And not as good at it either.
I choke down my gorge and vote for them here in Morontario because there’s zero alternative. If I were in Alberta there’d be a Wild Rose sign on my lawn.

  2. That’s just an amazingly terrible ad, but it points out much of what is wrong with Redford.
There are parallels between her and Chrusty in BC.
Both of them took leadership of their parties, with less than a stellar majority, with those opposed, vehemently against the choice, seeing with excellent foresight, trouble down the road.
Both have decided to ignore traditional support in their teams, and felt they needed to show they could do it “their way”, using neophytes as advisors and yes-men/women.
The results speak for themselves. Chrusty has fallen apart the slow-motion route, while Ally has decided on the fast flameout.
Is Chrusty paying attention, anyone, or can she see Chilliwack from her porch?

  3. Funny thing is that I thought Redford would be a tougher opponent for Smith than Mar…until she started talking post-ascension. It’s almost like she’s on the Wildrose campaign payroll, and I’ve been thinking that since well before the writ dropped.

  4. Landowners (lack of )Rights, MLA’s “severance”(WTF!) packages, and best of all an honest to goodness “mobile dialysis bus”.
    No, I’m not kidding.
This bus roams around east central Alberta, occaisionally hitting Whitecourt in WESTERN Alberta.
Braindead idea, and you can tell.
No one is rushing to take credit for this one. Two million dollar clusterf&%ck, stopped in its tracks every snowstorm, and when OUTDOOR water hookups froze.
I won’t miss these brightest and best…./sarc off.

  5. Oh yeah, let’s toss the dying old fart in jail for being impolite to a persistent politician – on his own property.
    That’ll work well.

  6. eastern paul “best of all an honest to goodness “mobile dialysis bus”. ”
The idiot Conservatives have gutted rural hospitals in Alberta. They do nothing anymore. Universally treatment involves a multi-hour ambulance ride to a big city. Regional centres that do no simple surgery, no tonsils, no appendixes etc. are common.
They haven’t figured out that if you trained small town white looking kids to be doctors that maybe they might consider working in small towns. Currently medical students who finish at the top of their English-as-a-second-language class all want to live in Toronto or Vancouver.
Also, how many people do they have to kill before the 2 lane highway to Fort Mac is 4 laned. The idiots must hate rural Alberta.

  7. They hired Stephen Carter to manage the campaign. You know Stephen Carter? The shady, hipster boy genius who put Naheed Nenshi into Calgary’s mayor’s chair?
Apparently this happened, not due to a fluke vote split between a multitude of conservative candidates….and not due to tapping into the gay/liberal/Muslim vote blocks (that’s not a slam, I’m just pointing it out), but it was due to Stephen Carter’s 21st century, post-ideological, social media genius!
Hipster ads that are poorly done are apparently going to save the day. The cheesy Dad looks younger than Redford. And as RedDog mentioned, it looks like she raided OJ Simpson’s closet from the 1970’s. The glass eating Paul Martin smile doesn’t help and neither does the doubling down on the Thatcher pearls. You can’t Mr.T your way to conservative iconography.
    This campaign is shocking.

  8. It looks like Allison Redford has even communist approach to fashion: one attire per person.
btw…has Lukaszuk been already arrested for public indecency of wearing that ugly sweater?

  9. This is the most important week of the campaign. The wildrose needs to continue to push especially now that all of the policies have been announced.
The debate is thursday – it will easily have the highest viewership ever for a debate in AB. (and it will have NHL playoff competition)
And the media will be in panaic mode trying to revive the pc party.

  10. How the hell can anyone be a progressive AND a conservative at the same time? Politically speaking, that has got to be the dumbest concept in recent history.

If I’m not mistaken Lady Thatcher had issues with that too vis-a-vis the federal party of that name.
The modern variant is fiscally conservative/socially liberal. Impossible: like dry rain or prudent spendrift.
While it’s true a conservative might be a single-issue liberal (“gay rights”), fiscally conservative/socially liberal is an impossibly absurd hydrid. I know ‘cos I have a good friend who’s one, with whom political talk is verboten

  11. HOWEVER, truthfully all our parties are PROGRESSIVE with some single issue exceptions like the CPC closing down the gun registry.
Bold statement: The Alberta Wildrose Party will soon reveal its progressivism if it wishes to retain power.

  12. I was re reading the National Post at the local Timmies. I accessed page A 10 Saturday 7th last and take the liberty of roughly quoting contributor Jen Gerson.

We are informed “she worked with the African National Congress to help develop a post-apart legal system”.

It is further stated ” she had applied for citizenship in South Africa, but was denied”. None of my business living with the cozy confines of Dalton’s Ontario, but I do find this rather strange. South Africa over Canada?

  13. Allison manages to fuse the haughty self-righteous condescension of a Human Rights Commission commissar and the social graces and political instincts of Joe Clark. Go Allison! And by go, I mean go away.

  15. FTW:
“Is it just me our would it be really funny if all the senior citizens in Lukaszuks’ riding took over his MLA office “occupy” style.

Allison Redford has even communist approach to fashion: one attire per person.
Reminds me of a comment way back decades ago. A Chicom diplomat who had visited Japan observed: ‘No two women wore the same clothes.’

The Alberta Wildrose Party will soon reveal its progressivism if it wishes to retain power.
One of the most astute and prescient observations I have read in a while.

  17. wouldn’t it be interesting if the wildrose party upon winning the election turned off social medicine and allowed private hospitals? (like ralph klein tried to do…but didn’t have the b@lls). it would interesting to see what mr harper would do.

  18. Thomas Lukaszuk
“if you cant beat ’em in the polls , beat ’em on their own lawns”.
“no dying old man will make a fool of me”
hey , the guy has good hair. — an indication of estrogen not testoserone

  19. Gawd that poster of Redorf is bad.
The least they could have done was photoshop her head onto Danielle’s torso to make it more palatable.

  20. Phantom @9:21 – “If I were in Alberta there’d be a Wild Rose sign on my lawn.”
I’m still seeing cars here with “Obama/Biden 2008” bumper stickers. For what it’s worth.

  21. Why are the PCs using NDP orange on their signs? Are they not even pretending to be conservatives now?

  22. Re; Maclains article;
It’s no wonder democracy fails in places like Afghanistan with people such as REDford pulling the strings.

  23. Thomas Lukaszuk: The same genius who thinks it’s a marvelous idea to install a high speed pr0n delivery service on rural school buses for teenage males. If the dude has more than one brain cell in his head they’ll probably never meet given the amount of space they have to roam around in.

  24. Black Mamba said: “I’m still seeing cars here with “Obama/Biden 2008″ bumper stickers. For what it’s worth.”
Yeah. We see more of them here in Dumb-tario than you do in California though, for what that’s worth. Seems that in some states, having an Obama sticker is known to be a danger to your paint job, if you know what I mean.
