“For every unwanted animal in the U.S. to have a home, each man, woman and child would have to adopt 15 dogs and 45 cats each year.” (American Humane Association) There are not enough loving homes to adopt and care for all the abandoned pets in the United States.

And across the country, some really odd women are feeling justified.
There are three kinds of people in the world. Those that can do arithmetic and those that can’t.
Face it…we’re just going to have to start eating dog and cat before they overun us…
It takes a special type of person to work at a animal shelter. Ingrid Newkirk, the founder of PETA in the early 80’s was inspired by (in her own words):
I went to the front office all the time, and I would say, “John is kicking the dogs and putting them into freezers.” Or I would say, “They are stepping on the animals, crushing them like grapes, and they don’t care.” In the end, I would go to work early, before anyone got there, and I would just kill the animals myself. Because I couldn’t stand to let them go through that. I must have killed a thousand of them, sometimes dozens every day. Some of those people would take pleasure in making them suffer. Driving home every night, I would cry just thinking about it. And I just felt, to my bones, this cannot be right:
So how much progress has been made over the past 30 years? PETA is now a business with over 300 employees and cash flow exceeding 34 million dollars per year. Over 2 million members world wide. Still killing over 90% of the animals they “save”. I can only see two solutions to this problem and as harsh as it sounds, it comes down to neutering/spaying all pets unless a expensive breeding permit is in your possession or put them all on the menu like many other countries do. If anyone has a better idea I would like to know. I like the first idea better and my dog and cats both agree.
There are three kinds of people in the world – those who READ linked articles, and those who do NOT read linked articles.
Had you ACTUALLY READ the article, you would see that it DEBUNKS the wild-eyed, off-the-wall assertion that “each man, woman and child would have to adopt 15 dogs and 45 cats each year”
There are also people who get the joke and those who don’t.
“you would see that it DEBUNKS”
No, REALLY? That’s AMAZING! (SARC)
it comes down to neutering/spaying all pets
And while they’re at it, neuter/spay the PETA crowd as well.
This makes perfect sense, just run the numbers:
Currently in the USA there are nearly 4.7 billion unwanted dogs, and about 14 billion unwanted cats.
Perhaps that’s what their models told them.
cut your own off first!
Another “charity” gone the way of the dodo. BTW,just how the farck DOES PETA/HSUS manage to hold onto their “charitable” status?
There are three kinds of people in the world. Those that can do arithmetic and those that can’t.
There are 10 kinds of people – those who understand binary notation and those who do not.
There are also people who get the joke and those who don’t.
If you don’t get the joke, maybe it is because it was a UDP joke
(American Humane Association) “There are not enough loving homes to adopt and care for all the abandoned pets in the United States.”
And yet there ARE enough loving homes to adopt and care for all the “unwanted” and abandoned children in the United States and Canada. And yet we still abort over 1,000,000 children in the U.S of A and 110,000 in Canada every year.
Is THAT a problem PETA?
That’s right. I said it!
Convenient typo’s.
I work with abandoned dogs, I have a one in foster care with me that I picked up today. Some breeds are so hard to adopt the shelters are getting cleaver rebranding them, they said little Miss T was a burmese mountain dog cross lol she’s part beagle part sheltie. Beagles are really hard to adopt out.
Math is hard? I am doubtful
US population 2011, rounded up to the nearest million = 312,000,000 people. Take off the 6 zeroes and you have 312.
15 x 312 = 4680, now stick the 6 zeroes back on
4,680,000,000 dogs
45 x 312 = 14,040, now stick the 6 zeroes back on
14,040,000,000
I doubt the world population of dogs is even close to 4.7 billion given that it’s usually one dog per family, 1.5billion muslims think dogs are unclean, Thai and Chinese cuisine feature canine meat and that you have to be relatively wealthy to afford a dog, you have to be able to buy it meat. The figure of 14 billion cats would mean there are two cats in the USA for every human being on earth.
The answer to the linked article’s headline is simple – people donate more to the various humane societies in times of crisis, therefore the HSUS, PETA etc are always perpetuating and/or manufacturing crises where none exist.
Al_in_Ottawa you nailed it. Exaggerate and outright lie to bump those donation numbers. Admins need a raise.
I’d like to add that any national/centralized movement will reduce itself to money grubbing without a (dare I say it) Christian Moral foundation.
My local humane society has a very low opinion of the “corporates” and runs mostly on volunteers.
” the shelters are getting cleaver rebranding them ”
Ouch, that sounds like it would be painful. (:-0
“each man, woman and child would have to adopt 15 dogs and 45 cats each year.”
Each man, each year. Wow. I’d have to eat a dog or cat each week just to keep up.
… I’d rather not.
> foobert..ok. I give up.What is a UDP joke???
(color me old)
is this the same computer that did the climate change calculations?
They been saying the same thing for decades. From The Seattle Times, July 7, 1991:
“For every pet in the United States to find a home, each of us would have to take in 15 dogs and 45 cats. We’ve got a little problem here.”

The joke is that UDP does not use handshaking or error checking, so the protocol doesn’t care if you get it.
(I copy/pasted this, google is your friend.)
Binary logic is based on ones and zeros 1/0
so saying that there are 3 types of people that get binary humor well, I’ll leave it there.
I recently uncovered a fact of my own. At least 2.13 billion dogs crapped on my front lawn over the past winter. (Were it not for AGW this would never have, um, surfaced…)
This Is Not Your Grandma’s Humane Society
True enough. Now its a big business that does nothing for animals. Culling populations of animals is a necessary job in a Urban environment where their are no predators except people. My heart goes out to those who have to do a necessary job, but love animals. Its a tough job.
In Alberta we import strays from Louisiana, Mexico, California, the Arctic and probably a lot more. For every one we bring in we have to ice another Alberta dog. Ain’t charity wonderful.
That hockey-stick function is everywhere and justifies everything. You don’t think Obama is lying when he forecasts massive prosperity from Stimulus I and II, do you? It’s the function.
Go out a few more years and it’s 150 dogs and 450 cats, people.
