Everybody and his dog knows by now that if you ask millions of Conservative-hating Canadians if they seen somethin’ in the woodshed during the run-up to last year’s federal election, they’re going to respond in the affirmative by the tens of thousands. But there’s another far more important number that hasn’t been released, or at least, a number that certainly hasn’t been widely reported, if it’s been reported at all, a number that the reporters at the CBC and other anti-Conservative media could surely use their investigative smarts to come up with: precisely how many complaints did Elections Canada receive in the days immediately following the last federal election – as opposed to nine months later, after ample prompting – from voters who said they didn’t get to cast their ballot because they’d been directed to the wrong polling station?
Surely Elections Canada keeps a records of such things, and would be happy to release the number – heck, you’d think they have a duty to release the number.
Bet it’s a really interesting number.

  2. This reminds me of a thingy the eco-nuts started in Edmonton a decade or 2 back. That polution was piting car windshields…..suddenly everyone noticed this. Mass suggestion……
    The 2 problems….
    1) windshields get pited by grit/sand….it’s sand blasting…
    2) fools were looking at their windshields rather than through them…..

  3. My brother was the target of a robocall. On May 2 or shortly before, he received a call saying he had won a cruise. Obviously this was to prevent him from voting.
    Furthermore, he did not get these calls when Trudeau was PM. So it must be PMSH attacking democracy.

  5. U of Guelph was the scene of a reported 700 strong chaotic ‘vote mob’ action by unspecified ‘youths’, who had access to a special on-campus voting booth. There were questions about the integrity of voter ID verification process, and so on.
    It was definitely not clean, and only borderline, or maybe just barely legal.
    And this is the same place where the hard left is desperately trying to fan the robocall non issue?
    Those 700 campus votes should have been scrutinised, and perhaps voided to a large extend.

  10. I’m aware of that information, Wally (12:42 AM), the question I asked was very specific –

    (Sorry for the emphasis, I’m not textually shouting, I’m just re-emphasizing the highly specific nature of the question.)
    Regarding the Global story, when you consider the number of telephone calls made by all parties during a general election (millions, I assume), 30 complaints over the course of five months about “false information regarding changes to poll locations” is hardly a massive election scandal or an assault on democracy worthy of national hyperventilation.
    Note too that the global report doesn’t specify which party the trivial numbers of, erm, parties were complaining about (“almost all mention of specific ridings and political parties have been removed from the (EC) documents”) so it’s not exactly self-evident that the Tories masterminded these — inevitable, considering the scale of an election — trivial confusions.

    How many real and specific incidents have we discussed here over the years that EC totally brushed off…the ‘extra’ polls at the University of Guelph for one.
    The 101% voter turnout at a community in the far north is another.
    And the raid on CPC offices with media camers handy.
    Time for that group to get scratched!

  12. I read elsewhere that there were approx 1000 complaints if all types lodged with EC during the last election DOWN from 1200 in the previous campaign.
    And EC has said it had recieved 31000 CONTACTS of all types last week – not complaints. The MSM has been calling them complaints The question i would like answered is why did EC release the 31000 number at all?

  13. There’s no doubt in my mind that phoning a voter to falsely tell him his polling station has moved is an interference with the democratic process that should an offence, as I believe it is.
    But one Liberal candidate in the last election was spotted removing Green Party literature from a mailbox and replacing it with Liberal pamphlets. That’s pretty much on the same level.
    And in 1993, the Progressive Conservative, Liberal and New Democratic parties passed the most undemocratic laws in Canadian history, a series of amendments to the Election Act that, among other things, forced some political parties to be dissolved and their assets forfeited – after a whopping 15 minutes’ debate in the House of Commons. Obviously this was an atempt to stall the nascent Reform Party; it didn’t work against them but was fatal for some other parties. If Canada ever became a banana republic, it happened in 1993.

    Those tens of thousands of complaints to Elections Canada and others are being driven by a pair of online advocacy groups with strong ties to the far left in Canada, the Obama campaign and a host of American left-wing groups.

  15. Who in their right mind still answers their telephone? I get so many autodialled calls that I no longer answer my phone. If someone wants to contact me, they can page me first. Only people that I want to be in contact with have my pager number. The only reason I still have a telephone is to make outgoing calls when I’m on call. Virtually all of my communications with people are via email and this is used to setup a mutually convenient time for a telephone conversation should the topic not be easily dealt with via email – such as medical legal matters where an email is considered a written communication. Also, on my cell phone, if someone isn’t on my list of acceptable callers I don’t answer.
    I guess that means my opinions don’t exist as far as telephone surveys go but I have no time to waste on answering telephone calls — that’s why I pay a receptionist to deal with this task.

  17. If I got a call to change my polling station I probably would have gone to the new location. If it was not a polling station I, using my brains, would have gone to the original location to see what was going on. Why is this so hard for the idiots in media to understand. If you are not smart enough to do this are you smart enough to vote, period?

  18. There is a demographic that exists that tends toward the belief that anyone successful must have achieved that success through sinister means.
    The OWS protesters, the G20 protests, the far left, anarchists, all tend toward this predisposition.
    Wealthy people, in their mind, could not have gained their wealth except through illegal means.
    The same logic applies to elections.
    They can not fathom how Harper gained a majority except through illegal means, and anyone that voted for him must be on the inside.
    Liberals know this demographic well and do whatever they can to encourage this behavior.
    Making crank calls out to be proof of conspiracy, when there are far more effective and efficient methods to do so can only be interpreted as this predisposition toward the belief that success equals criminal.

  21. A faux scandal against PM Harper hit the lefty media on March 2/2011 with headlines such as “Canada Refuses to Allow False News on the Airways”. The insinuation was that PM Harper was trying to change the CRTC rulings against reporting “false news” in time for the launch of Sun TV but the massive outcry prompted the CRTC to save us from PM Harper giving the purveyers of false news {presunably Sun TV} a pass. The change was actually a clarification that the news outlet should actually know it was reporting false news. The change didn’t happen.
    As it stands, reporting false news is illegal whether the reporter knows it’s false news or not.
    I propose a massive complaint blitz to the CRTC against all the usual suspects in the media for reporting false news regarding the phony robocall “scandal” intended to smear the CPC and undermine our election process and results.
    The CBC and the others are reporting false news. Shouldn’t they be called on it?
    Who has the know-how and means to kickstart it?
    Hang ’em by their own petards.

Perhaps it’s time for we conservatives to start a global site called: Liberal Media Watch that investigates conservative hating urnalists at CBC Globe and mail etc. If they use the power of the media to attack Conservatives, create fake scanadals and openly lie then it’s time we took them on face to face on the internet.

    I suspect they released that number for the same reason all bureaucracies release ANY “big” number > to prove how “busy” they are, and thus justify a) their existence, and b) their demands for a bigger budget.

The most obvious, blatant abuse of EC rules involved CBC itself, broadcasting results from Easten Canada, including far eastern Quebec, into Ont while polls remained open Where is the explanation from CBC talking heads, or serial interview guest JP Kingsley? More to the point where is Elections Canada?

  26. IF there were robo calls that interfered with voting by misdirecting people, then the party with the largest historical unprecedented gains would be the likely culprit behind those calls.

  27. From a Ezra Levant coloumn a few days ago at The Toronto Sun, I can’t find the link…
    But what did Elections Canada’s actual 190-page report from the last election say?
    It referenced hundreds of irregularities the 2011 election. Most of which were Elections Canada staff sleeping in or otherwise not showing up at a polling station on time.
    There were a few reports of shenanigans.
    But here’s what they concluded, on page 3:
    “There was no conduct reported that would bring into question the integrity of the election result overall or the result in a particular riding.”
    Only Ezra has brought this little fact to light.

  29. As a former DRO, I called EC yesterday to get an explanation as to where these 30k plus calls came from. The response was that they are all being investigated. When I asked what the difference was between a complaint and a contact I was told they are the same. Therefore it is quite possible that flash mobs can skew numbers to this extent. Probably even my call of enquiry was logged as a complaint lol.

  31. You can have some fun with this. Go to the Leadnow.ca lefty web site. Compose a fake name and fake e-mail address. Plug them into the appropriate fields and send a pre-written form letter to Harper, Elections Canada, etc. Then hit the “submit” button. After you get the “message sent” confirmation, hit submit again, and again and again. Each time you hit the button, you submit a letter and the Leadnow counter clicks upward. The CBC and Toronto Star then write stories about the thousands of outraged Canadians deluging the government with protest letters.
    I did this yesterday and contributed about 15 of the letters in their tally. Let’s see if we can send the Leadnow “outrage meter” to astronomical heights. Here’s our chance to sucker punch the lamestream media.

  32. Joseph I think you misunderstand the OWS and far left crowd. They believe that success itself should be illegal, not that everyone who is a success must have committed a crime.

  33. UPDATE The leadnow.ca web site no longer lets you repeatedly send the same fake e-mails simply by repeated clicks on the “submit” button. You now have to type in a fake name and e-mail address each time. Still fun, though.

  34. In light of that previous “report” and the Conclusions drawn…
    EC has some explaining to do…
    As to why this second investigation is even needed at all, sure new info (Poutine man) has entered the fray, but just what kind of investigation did they previously do ?
    What will be the cost of (TWO) investigations of the same complaints?
    The last one was definitive with it’s conclusions and it obviously wasn’t in-depth or thorough.
    Or was it?

    Do you realize how much trouble 100,000 fake email complaints could bring to the election people. They could be balled up for years. That would be terrible, wouldn’t it?

  40. I recall reading that in Elections Canada’s first post election report on about May 10, they stated they had received nearly 1,000 complaints from across Canada.
    Wallyj’s comment is rather telling concerning CBC inviting the masses to report phone hoaxes…a day or two after EC’s report on May 10 or so.
