A recent visit to the Reagan Library in Simi Valley, California rendered some lasting memories.

For those younger folks who aren’t very familiar with President Ronald Reagan, here’s a good synopsis of his time in that role (video).
Update: This is a famous speech given by Reagan in 1964 – h/t Marc in Calgary

I’d give my eye teeth to visit that library, even though it’s located in California.
What a man … what a LEADER of men.
What struck me the most was how many of his quotes from decades ago still have absolute relevance today.
How we need a leader of his calibre today.
And how easily a five-minute video exposes the current pretenders for the insignificant footnotes they will become.
I’m certain you’ve seen this Robert W, likely many others have as well. It’s relevance to today is obvious:

@ 3.05 in the video…
“Not too long ago two friends of mine were talking to a cuban refugee, a businessman who had escaped from Castro, and in the midst of his story one of my friends turned to the other and said ‘we don’t know how lucky we are’, and the cuban stopped and said ‘how lucky you are?’ … I had someplace to escape to”
and view this, trying to imagine what sort of nonsense the current office holder is going to unfurl during the coming electoral campaign:
1984 Ronald Reagan, “It’s morning in America again” 1 minute.

And for those too young to remember, Reagan had incredible opposition to his Central American policy and Congress succeeded in shutting down aid to the “Contras” (Nicaragua’s democratic freedom fighters) at its most critical moment.
If you think the International media is slanted to the Left today, it was nothing like the ’80’s when the Soviets et al had their propaganda and disinformation departments in full swing around the world. In fact the Commie propaganda machine was so powerful and widespread that even Reagan himself was misled to believe that Nicaragua’s “freedom fighters” were a creation of the CIA and his own Government — Reagan didn’t realize that it started as a grassroots armed rebellion against Communism a couple years before Reagan even took office. This is documented in the excellent research by former CIA liason and anthropologist Timothy Brown in “The Real Contra War: Highlander Peasant Resistance in Nicaragua” (http://www.amazon.com/Real-Contra-War-Highlander-Resistance/dp/0806132523).
Highly recommended reading — I’ve read just about everthing publicly available on Reagan and the Freedom Fighters and the above is one of the few studies that isn’t written “Michael Moore/Noam Chomsky” Left ad hominem style — ie: pure garbage. (Not to mention the fact that Brown’s work confirms stuff people such as myself personally witnessed on the ground going as far back as 1979).
Reagan was right more than he even realized himself.
Ricardo, it’ll be interesting, when the facts are fully revealed one day, to see just how corrupt the Soros funded news organizations are. This includes direct & indirect funding from Soros.
Here is a clear chart outlining the stance of the Republican candidates in the 2012 election:http://www.scribd.com/doc/81315475/National-Comparison-Sheet
I think that Regan would back Ron Paul.
Jema 54 if Regan supported Ron Paul he wouldn’t be near as smart as everyone seems to believe he was. Personally I wasn’t a huge fan of Regan. His brilliance to my mind is akin to a tiny crack in the darkroom wall. Surrounded by darkness a pencil of light seems brilliant. Compared to the guy he replaced Regan was great but that would be like saying slug slime is higher than whale poop. I honestly believe that in order for a president to be called great he would have to have made a fundamental change in the culture of the US. Regan simply staunched the flow for a few years only to have his work undone by the Bushes, Clinton and now Obambam. The tale of the Regan presidency reminds me of the Story Jesus told of the demon being cast out only to return again with 7 fold vengeance. Yes Regan cleaned up Carter’s mess but he didn’t put anything lasting in place. A few years after Regan left office the US was back on its well documented self destruct mode in an ever accelerating arc.
Great pics Robert.
Just about the only reason I can think of to visit California.
And now I finally know what camera gear you use! LOL! Hummed and hawed for a couple weeks between the 7000 and the 5100. Went with the 5100. Liking it alot.
I guess that whole “Mr. Gorbachev tear down this wall” wasn’t enough…

“As recent books have shown, Reagan was far from the uninformed dunce that many modern-day liberals considered him to be. He was thoughtful, well-informed, and knowledgeable about the core principles of free-market economics”
Nobody needs to be a genius to be President, principals will take you where you want to go.
“Nobody needs to be a genius to be President” Marc
Yes! they just need to be Honest “Americans” the same brilliant advisers are available to anyone!
“principles” uff.
And a great video from Trooper Matt Worth of the RCD using parts of the speech that marc linked to.

What struck me most was the concerns he expressed remain equally valid 48 years later. Like Churchill before him and later, his contemporary Thatcher, Reagan had a warning for us all of the perils of socialism. Too bad those warnings remain largely ignored.
I am sorry, they had the next Reagan in the wings, just chose to believe the liberals and watched her be destroyed, they said he was stupid too, Sarah Palin has proven to have the integrity, the American heart and the ability to make tough decisions…Americans decided to believe the press.
Golfergirl – I hope Palin isn’t gone, and that she will becone a correcting force in Americal politics yet.
I guess we’ll see how the GOP establishment candidates do against the mighty One in November. If they screw up badly enough we may see Mama Bear back soon.
He was a couragous man!
how about those speeches ………
and all done without a telepropter!
I went there maybe 5 years ago. Absolutely amazing. Great insight into the man. I highly recommend it to anyone that finds themselves in that part of the states.
