OMG! Does SaskPower know about this?
Slowly, information is leaking from nations that have spent heavily on wind and solar, such as Germany. This information should give pause to those touting solar and wind, including politicians. England is pulling back from wind, Germany has announced drastic cut-backs on its subsidies to solar, and Spain has announced the elimination of subsidies for renewable power. These actions are not the result of success.
Someone must get this information to the people planting giant fans in the middle of our oil fields before it’s too late. Who has a horse?

Wind energy does have a lot of problems, including fast component wear, high costs, and erratic winds.
But solar power doesn’t have those problems. There’s virtually no component wear, costs are falling, and there’s a good supply of energy if you put the solar panels in the right place.
Hint: not in Canada. Somewhere near the Equator, where the sun shines directly down on you.

Sask power plans to double their windmills. We are very slow to learn in Sask.It only took us 70 years to get rid of the ndp dingbats how long will it take to run off these comies running sask power?

Slowly information is leaking out in Ont. that the only beneficiaries of wind are the power companies and their Liberal cronies. As long as they can harvest the $.135 kwh subsidy, they will profit, once this ends they will go out of business, same as in Spain, Germany and anywhere else attempted.

A few years ago,befor Mr.Boyd was energy minister,he told me of a gentleman that opened a small airport in western Sask.This gent was from the area originally but was now CEO of Pratt and Whitney,the aircraft engine manufacturer.I would like Mr.Boyd to contact that same gentleman and ask him when they are once again going to manufacture compound radial aircraft engines like they did seventy years ago because, apparently,Mr. Boyd thinks that is the future.Any one that thinks wind generators are cost effective FORGETS ABOUT THE COST OF THE BACK UP POWER GENERATING SYSTEM,which has to equal or exceed the capacity of the wind generators.
Don’t understand why failed green policies in other countries are ignored by politicians in North America. Different sun ? Different wind ?

I.ve made this post before but it bears repeating.During the Second World war,there were six hundred thousand airplanes built.Two hundred thousand by the axis powers and four hundred thousand by the allies.Of that number the USA built THREE hundred thousand airplanes nearly all out of aluminum.During the 1930’s the USA built many dams including Hoover and the TVA.These dams supplied the power for the production of that aluminum,the steel to build the thousands of tanks and ships and the power to build the first atomic bombs.Without that steady power from those dams,the Second World War would have had a very different ending.Wind generators and solar instead of dams would have lost the war
had a young engineer tell me he was going to look at a wind turbine to run a pumpjack . I said please tell me you are making this up?

Bill Boyd and Sask Power do not keep up.
I am getting very afraid that these giant windmills are causing the rotation of the earth to speed up, it seems everyone I talk to like to say things like, “time flies” and “seems like only yesterday”, these are all hallmarks of a faster time that we never anticipated when we allowed all these giant propellors to sweep the earth along faster than before. If Fat Al and charlatan Suzuker can extort money for global warming then I will run with this theory to get rich as Al and his cohorts.

It’s worse than you think.
Ever drive by one of those really huge windmill farms, with a hundred or more huge towers all with their 200′ blades whooshing away above your head?
Well, if you drive by those same windmill farms a year or so later and take a close look, you’ll see that they’ve moved several miles away from where they started.
I heard from this guy that the windmills have been strategically placed so that there’s the same number of them on top of each tectonic plate. When the windmills really get going, they can drag their plate right along at a good clip, but they figured if all of the plates were moving at the same speed and in the same direction, no one would notice.
But then they started to shut them down for maintenance, and they got all bolluxed up on the timing, and now we’re seeing huge earthquakes around Japan and Indochina because the plates aren’t matched for speed anymore.
Remember back when Teddy Kennedy didn’t want the windmills offshore of his estate? He knew about this, man.
He knew.

Hey, that’s what the voters wanted. And maybe it’s partly understandable.
After all, Tiny Tim ain’t exactly tearing The Dildo apart on this, is he?

Just good old fashioned pandering to a well organized lobby group. Once AGW is no longer trendy,they’ll drop it like a hot potato.

Not entirely, dmorris. In Ontario’s case, the government can’t drop the renewables because if it does it will have to get serious about new nuclear reactors, a decision it’s been punting for the last six years.

It’s actually not complicated. Politicians are driven by polls. Every public poll shows that renewables are all greatly favoured by the public over the realistic alternatives of fossil fuels and nuclear. One can argue successfully I think that McGuinty was re-elected last year because just days before the election he killed a proposed gas-fired plant in the Mississauga area. This plant is needed desperately for local load support but was deeply unpopular with residents in a key riding.
In the end, don’t blame the politicians entirely. Blame a deeply ignorant and stupid collection of voters who have no understanding of where their electricity supply comes from on a daily basis.
There are reasons to put up power generating windmills other than power. For example, if a duck lands on your tailings pond, PR disater and fines up the wazoo. If 10,000 ducks fly into the wall of windmills surrounding your tailings pond? Not a single **** will be given.
A wind turbine was being considered for our community. If you can believe it, they were going to erect it on a large hill of garbage, which is home to a significant number sea gulls and bats.
Every meeting about the intended construction attracted a large number of people demanding that it be moved out of town. The number of homes that it was predicted to provide electricity for also kept getting lower and lower as time went on. Finally it was cancelled because no one would build it on a site like that for a reasonable price.
Note that green technology completely trumped common sense and a community that was dramatically opposed to what was going on. Our politicians went on public media making it clear that any protests or concerns were ignored. Boy, do we need a change.
Yea but the politicians in Saskatoon are nuts. They would set up an egg beater to look like they were saving the envioment but care less that it cost to much or the dam thing wouldn’t work anyway.
