(PS-is this the ball we throw into the sandbox and watch it get ripped apart kind of thing?)

Payment delays …….. heh .
Build the wall around California, take the star off the flag and be done with it.
No doubt those morons will pass even more laws that drive away business. We try to avoid buying any products produced in California.
But I thought Gov Brown was going to fix it all?
Actually the problme is more in the legisalture than than the governors office. Even if Meg WHitman had been elected the same things would happen.
Why oh why cant Calfornians elect conservatives. They used to….some pretty good ones as well. (Some bad ones too)
What do you expect from a state that has a Red Star on its flag?
Sometime in the next 5 years California, Illinois, and a few other states, will need bailing out by the federal government.
Should this not be a major campaign issue in the upcoming election? If “fairness” is an issue then what is fair about taxpayers in responsible states bailing out those in bankrupt states?
Hey look at the bright side, Nancy Pelosi will take Warren Buffet’s suggestion and donate the shortfall from all her insider trading, which heretofore has been perfectly legal…
Debt Surf is UP!! Nancy to the rescue…to bail out the “Back to the Futurama” professor Jerry Brown.
Hey its only 2.6 billion, pocket change for these high flyers.
Cheers

Captain…Stop beating your head against a brick wall. Until the rest of the moderate States rise up and tell this cesspool of leftard socialists to sink or swim on their own, they will just carry on dragging the rest of you down, sorta like the PIIGS and the rest of commie Euroistan.
Too bad they can still borrow their way along. I’m looking forward to the day that taking austerity measures is the only option available to them… the ensuing riots should be legendary.
California is sitting on top of a shale oil play about 3x the Bakken Formation. Brown could open up the leases and drive the eco-nutters global warming fear mongers ballistic and generate much need jobs & tax revenues.
But he’s been chugging greenie kool-aide for so long there is little chance of common sense getting through his Gaia Phairy Phart powered dream state.
Speaking of Kool aid, Jerry Brownout was one of Jimmy Jones’ (of Jonestown Guyana fame) supporters. So was Jimmy Carter.
Ahhh California
Eagerly awaiting the day when they fall off into the ocean and meet their gaia god face on.
Don’t bother sending a postcard kiddies, ’cause we could care less.
There’s a long thread on this subject over at zerohedge, from which I have purloined this little gem:
A portion of fence at the White House needed to be replaced. Three contractors were chosen to bid the job. A gubmint official accompanied each contractor as they did the estimate. The first contractor was from Montana, he took some measurements, they worked up some numbers and said:”This job will cost $2,000. $900 for materials, $900 for my crew, and $200 profit for me.” Next was the contractor from Tennessee. He also took measurements worked numbers, and said:” $650 for materials, another $650 for my crew, and $200 for my profit.” Finally came the Chicago contractor. He leaned over and whispered into the gubmint official’s ear and said:”$6500.” The gubmint man was stunned. “But you took no measurements, you worked no numbers, how did you come up with that number?” The Chicago contractor leaned back over and whispered:”$2500 for you, $2500 for me, and we hire the guy from Tennessee to fix the fence.”
I seem to recall many years ago a made for tv movie which stared Dick Van Dyke. In this movie he was running a business that his financial accountant reported to him that there was a deficit of $40,000 in the accounts, and that unless something was done the company would be bankrupt. Dick looked the consultant in the eye and asked him how much he was paying him. The consultant, without hesitation stated “40k per year”. Dick paused for a moment and responded to the consultant with two words…
“your fired”
Heh, out of cash? How can this be?!?

Come visit California, the Greece of North America.
Yeah but the food is not so good.
Maybe they can ask Quebec for financial advise.
5.4 billion is relatively small compared to10 billion????
I’d say it’s 50%
In a sad way, it’s somewhat reassuring to know that the stupidity of Ontario’s electorate has been at least matched.
I’d cheer at the thought of California going bust, except as others have pointed out there will just be an exodus of Californians to neighbouring states. And once established there, the ex-Californians wil demand the same lavish government spending that put their former state in debt, and vote for anyone who promises it. Thus putting those states into bankruptcy as well.
The source of the problem is Californians themselves. The only solution is to build a wall around the state and not let anyone in or out. That might control the contagion.
