The Radical Left’s latest Racist Poster Boy is none other than Tim Thomas, goaltender of the Boston Bruins. Why? Because he refused to go to the White House today.
Here’s the statement that Thomas released:
“I believe the Federal government has grown out of control, threatening the Rights, Liberties, and Property of the People. This is being done at the Executive, Legislative, and Judicial level. This is in direct opposition to the Constitution and the Founding Fathers [ sic ] vision for the Federal government. Because I believe this, today I exercised my right as a Free Citizen, and did not visit the White House. This was not about politics or party, as in my opinion both parties are responsible for the situation we are in as a country. This was about a choice I had to make as an INDIVIDUAL.”

Some of the comments at the Bruins Blog are priceless:
Way to put your own confused political leanings in the way of your team, your town, your fans…
You assume Thomas’s absence is a political statement, but for all we know, he may have had a roll with the first lady and felt the situation would have been socially awkward.
Typical knee-jerk liberals didn’t say a word when Theo skipped a Bush invite. Hypocrites.
First off, not so bad that you dissed the President of the United States, but this is a slap in the face to all the Boston Bruins fans. In case he hasn’t noticed, Massachusetts is a Democratic State. Why would Thomas take this stand. Doesn’t he know that Curt Schilling pretty much got run out of town for backing and working to get George W Bush elected?
Besides that, Red Sox management exercised their rights under his contract to put a stop to his foray into politics right quick. I respect most people for their political beliefs, but Glen Beck? I could see Ronald Regan, John F Buckley, Dwight D Eisenhour, but Glen Beck? The guy is a Nazi for god sake! My guess is that the Boston Fans will let their feelings known at the next home game.
And so it begins:

Incidentally, this photo “clearly” provides the clues that Tim Thomas is a racist:

Can’t find the clues? He’s using a white glove and white pads to stop a black puck from achieving its destiny. What could be more racist than that?!?

SDH
Agreed. Viewing his twitter history now. I also does not include the 3K reference or #racist.
Syncrodox, in the interest of clarity, Dave Hodge originally made this comment. Then other referenced it, explaining it more fully.
If Hodge didn’t mean “KKK” then what was it he implied?
I realize it was just meant as a joke but perhaps an inappropriate one given the sensitive nature of race-baiting these days.
“It”…
According to Joe Haggerty of Comcast SportsNet New England (Twitter: @HackswithHaggs), it was Brad Marchand (Little Ball of Hate, according to the President) who was going to offer this advice to President and presumed Blackhawks fan BO: “Yeah stop taxing me so much”
If anyone who thinks this current administration is utterly incompetent is a racist, what does it make a real racist?
A liberal, perhaps?
I think Sarah Palin made Thomas do it
Yeah, ‘presumed’ Blackhawks fan, like the time he named all his favorite White Sox players from when he was a kid?
Robert W. (Vancouver)
Agreed. 3K is definately implied. I read through his recent tweets (I don’t follow Hodge) and found that his tweets infrequently (for a media type) and that a good portion of his tweets are tongue in cheek.
I don’t know if he was race baiting or not. As to his insensitivity, or the inappropriatness of his comment. That’s subjective…I found it wickedly snotty, but that’s me.
I do know that the 3k reference and the hash tag appear to be Mr. Stoppler’s editorial response to Hodge’s suggestion…I think.
Anyways, thanks for the clarification.
I don’t think the tweet thing is working for me. That is not Hodge nor Luongo posting, though people will give it a quick read and assume it is. There is enough vitriol out there without adding misleading stuff.
Hodge did indeed make the comment, and is getting called out for it…

Actually, I must repent and give Hodge a lifetime pass after watching the HNIC pen flip.
Hodge, for no apparent reason, slammed Sun News Network on a TSN hockey(!) broadcast as well. His downtown Toronto LibCred is well known.
He should be taken to task over his latest and absolutely abhorrent bit by someone from the aforementioned network. If he wants to play with political fire, by all means, immolate him.
SolidFPlus
That’s a CBC classic fer sure.
John Salt
Moby much..?
Sorry, I’m not following ya syncro…
Plus if you look at the “B” logo, take out the “B” and the “X”, it means he’s X-ing out the Black man. Also, what’s left looks suspiciously like a CELTIC CROSS.
I’ll give ya a clue…urban dic…moby…google.
BTW John Salt is pretty funny…from a moby perspective.
Is it insulting to say of a goalie “He shoots… he scores!!!”?
Thanks Kyle, I guess the person who points it out doesn’t retweet it and makes it look like he is sending the tweet to Hodge. From watching years of Hodge, I would give him a chance to tell us he was being sarcastic (really, he was I hope) because otherwise he is really an ass 🙂
So, you’re… calling me a left-wing troll. Looks like you’re 0 for 2 on the night.
Update for those not interested in obscure internet pigeonholery: Hodge has been taken off TSN’s twitter feed page. I have a feeling an apology or a firing will take place tomorrow (not mutually exclusive). Or at least I hope so.
I stand to be corrected as always. As per the origin of the tweet I self corrected.
As per the 3k reference and hashtag I believe Robert W. has posted the original tweet.
As per the mobyness of JS…well that’s my take.
…at worst I’m 1 for 4 not 0 for 2…
You know things are bad when Stanley cup winning goalies are refusing to rub elbows with the ruling class. When has this happened before.
Kudos to the goalie for his principles. His team should be proud of him for not being a phony.
Tim may well be in line for the POTUS in the land south of us!
With the gas-bags and keystone-kop routine going on down there right now, I’ll bet if his name were on the ticket, he could possibly win that thing.
Should print up “Tim Thomas for President” bumper stickers and make a couple of $$$million!!!
I largely agree with what Thomas said, although the problems certainly didn’t begin on 20 Jan 09. In fact, he specifically noted that his comments were non-partisan.
But I’m leaning towards thinking he should have gone to the White House. I believe one must separate the office of President from either the current occupant or the institution of the federal government under these circumstances.
As for Dave Hodge, had he called Thomas “racist” based on nothing more than his White House no-show, that would be WAY out of line to the point of slander, but I don’t believe he did. The line about the kids is tasteless and classless but does not constitute an outright accusation of racism on its own. It’s marginally humorous if it comes from someone with a track record for frivolous comments of that nature. Those who respect freedom of speech may condemn it on the above grounds, but nothing more.
Funny, but I seemed to have missed all the liberal outrage in defense of Tim’s statement… you know… just like they supported the Dixie Chicks… sarc

Main point of clarity: the “KKK” reference was inherent in the original Dave Hodge tweet. It was HIS intention to craft that association in the minds of readers, and that’s why he and TSN are now taking a tremendous amount of heat. It was repugnant and, indeed, libellous.
Which is why I said (along with hundred of others on twitter) that I hope he’s taken to task for writing some pretty vile things about an athlete – things of a political nature. If he’s going down that road, then someone on our side should call him out and give him a taste of life on the political/media battlefield.
[aside:] Synchro, seriously, I have no idea what makes you draw those conclusions about me. It’s mind boggling in fact, given the positions I’ve taken here. Wait, is this some kind of hazing ritual??
Well if they trade him, that team would be looking good for the Stanley Cup, seeing as how he pretty much won it by himself last time. Imagine what the guy could do behind Vancouver’s defence, why even Luongo almost won and his idea of puck-stopping is to dive headfirst at the skates of the shooter.
Frivolity is a valid path..freedomspeachywise..? No?
syncrodox, it was obvious what point moron Hodge was trying to make. Click on the original tweet in his timeline, EVERYONE else understood it as well.
If in fact Dave Hodge made that tweet it exposes him as a total moron. That isn’t even close to funny. Insulting to Mr. Thomas’ children.
The vast majority of comments at TSN are pro Thomas. As they should be. I’m a Bruins fan, so I respected Thomas before. But I respect him even more now.
RIGHT ON TIMMY!
Paul: Dave Hodge did tweet it. See his feed at Twitter.
Yeah, bluetech! That poll is still open!
Rock the vote!
If you want to complain, the email address for audience relations at TSN is Audience.Relations@bellmedia.ca.
“Hitler never forgave Schmeling for refusing to join the Nazi party, so he had him drafted into the Paratroops and sent him on suicide missions.”
Schmeling is remembered as a hero. Hitler, not so much.
John Salt… Hodge is still alive on TSN’s twitter page, at least as of 0930 AST today.
I’m with nv53. Entertainers, and here I include sports celebs, are hired to entertain and amuse us, not to make stands of any kind. That is is the trade-off they should know. After their career in sports is done, then go nuts.
Don’t you just hate it when athletes exploit their success toake a political point?
http://www.infoplease.com/spot/summer-olympics-mexico-city.html
Nold et al. So politicians can score points off entertainers and sports personalities, for thats all this was, cheap popular politics, but a principled man is supposed to keep quiet and allow that political exploitation? That is a morally bankrupt philosphy.
I’m curious if it’s possible to do a cross reference between critical Tim Thomas tweets and critical Tim Tebow tweets?
I’ll bet my bottom dollar that the bandwagon seats are full of the same people.
“”I believe the Federal government has grown out of control, threatening the Rights, Liberties, and Property of the People. This is being done at the Executive, Legislative, and Judicial level. This is in direct opposition to the Constitution and the Founding Fathers [ sic ] vision for the Federal government. ”
Absolutely! And we can add Canada to that equation although we are not as far down the rabbithole into a corporate police state as the US, it isn’t for lack of trying by both PC and Liberal governments.
I must remind people on a daily basis that this is a nation where you will be criminally charged for defending your life with a weapon.
It is a nation which will hold your livelihood ransome to the licencing and regulatory regime of its private property despising administrators.
It is a nation with a ministry who’s sole purpose is to limit outside information from reaching citizens.
It is still a nation who will arrest you for what you say, think or believe.
It’s perfectly logical for Obama supporters to assume those that disagree with ‘the one’ are racist. After all, that was precisely the reason many voted for him in the first place. Having no clue of his political policies leaves them empty headed as to any possible reasoning why someone would dare disagree.
Bumper sticker voters for a bumper sticker president. What more could, or would, you expect?
Mark: Not the twitter page, the twitter *feed* – they’re different. Dave Hodge still has a twitter account, he’s just been taken off their feed.
Although you probably will never read this comment, as it seems – for reasons completely lost on me – that I’m in moderation and never to return.
Oh cool, comment posted. To whoever is responsible, thanks for allowing me back. I’m new here, and am sorry if I broke any rules.
Tim Thomas took a principled stand and issued a brief statement explaining his actions. He did not grandstand or pontificate or engage in name-calling as most left-leaning celebrities tend to do.
How this can be construed as a slight against the Boston Bruins or Bruin fans escapes me.
nv53:
“It’s the office you respect”
See, that’s the problem with the American imperial presidency. You can’t separate the office from the holder, and no one has done it much justice lately.
Here, we have a much saner system – the head of State is the Queen, and her representative, the G-G. That office is above politics, and worthy of enduring respect. The PM? Not so much.
Not that I was ever in any danger of having to choose, but if I’d been invited to meet Cretin, I would have had to wash my hair. Martin? Maybe – there were times I almost felt sorry for the guy. PMSH? Sure, any time. However, should the G-G have requested my presence for a ceremony, I’d have gone, even if it was la Clarkson, or Mme. Jean. Not to have done so would have exhibited disrespect for the country; snubbing a PM is merely insulting a celebrity.
And the rest of the team went to see ‘bama?
Time for a name change: The Boston Pooh Bears
Thanks for clarifying, John Salt. His comment is indeed missing from the feed, but it’s glowing in red lights on his tweet sheet. 🙂
