  1. Hilarious. Yeah, he’s a turd, but he’s the least offensive turd. Keep up the good work Lib Party.

  2. Unless the Liberals continue to plug that centre left turf, keeping the opposition to the CPC fractured, the only way Harper can keep his majority-minority power is to fill it himself at the expense of the conservative base. IOW, you can have a conservative government only as long as the Liberals are just strong enough to keep the moderate left from joining the hard left. Another Iggy would kill them off but Rae might make them too strong particularly with the shallow depth of the NDP leadership gene pool. Hmmmmm, what to do….

  3. I can’t shake the impression Rae is imitating a cadaver…..gaawd, what incredible pallor!

  4. Bob Rae is the LPC’s Joe Clark. BTW when will the Grits hold their next leadership convention? If Rae pulls this off then they’ll be pushing ten years. As for the future, they’ve got the proud legacy of the British Liberal Party to draw on, right?
Harper must be really scared. Mulcair and Rae fighting it out for an ever dwindling left-looney vote.
Thank you Prime Minister for saving us from the watermelon revolution. We may have to truck and rail bitumen for the foreseable future and listen to ever shriller and apocalyptic protests – did you know that Leonardo da Vinci predicted climate catastrophe – but the lunatics are finally losing their 30 year grip on the asylum.

  5. The fix is in because there is nobody hanging around that apparently is better than Rae. However, once elected Rae will turn into his old socialist self. He is great at the old style politics calling the PM and government names and accusing them of all manner of things not rooted in reality.
However, the media loves to quote him. After all that nasty Harper and his friends in the NCC need to be exposed for what they are….Conservatives.
Scott Reid lamented recently that the Libs have nor organization like the NCC to advocate on behalf of Libs. No they don’t need one. They have the lame street media looking after their interests.

  6. If Bob Rae is the least offensive Liberal that says a lot about the rest of the Liberal Party. I mean that’s like winning first place at an ugly contest…you’re still ugly.

  7. The Liberals have a tradition of alternating between Anglophone, and Francophone leaders. That tradition has never been broken, in 140 years. The next Liberal leader will be Francophone. I had this bet when Dion snuck in there, out of nowhere. I’m willing to wager.

  8. If Bob Rae becomes non-interim leader, I’ll eat my own head. If anyone else does…I’ll probably eat my own head anyway.

  9. Coach, tradition is such a dated concept, the lieberals are over that white, old, guy thinking.
What the lieberals really need is some PROGRESSIVE thinking, that they are always banging-on about. They need a woman leader but lets not stop there they need a minority woman leader, and why stop there a gay-friendly, minority, womyn hits all the requirements.
Draft Hedy Fry! She’s the female Obama that will lead the lieberals ummmm somewhere, hopefully oblivion.

  10. Cascadian- You may be right. Perhaps they’ll have a woman leader, but it won’t be Fry, BECAUSE SHE ISN’T FRENCH. It’s called tradition because it’s traditional.

  11. you can have a conservative government only as long as the Liberals are just strong enough to keep the moderate left from joining the hard left.
    ~John Chittick
A lot of traditional Liberal voters are still under the impression that Liberal=Moderate Center.
If the moderate Left joined the hard Left the moderate/fiscally conservative Liberals would vote Conservative.
I’m guessing that would be most of the ones who didn’t vote NDP last election.

  12. Bob Rae was interviewed by CBC’s George Stromboalphabet on “The Hour” earlier this week.
They talked about Rae’s political past among other things, and Rae was pre-emptively trying to paint himself as a “martyr” of Stephen Harper’s “dirty politics”. (Was there an election somewhere that I missed?!!).
Rae said something to the effect, “I don’t care if Stephen Harper has some tapes about me hidden in his basement…” It was probably in reference to the CBC’s story the day before which revealed that Bob Rae had been spied on by the RCMP during his student activist days in the ’60’s. It’s all nicely orchestrated to project Rae’s political “martyrdom” — probably to appeal to the OWS protest crowd, et al.
Of course the CBC later realized that the comment alluding to Harper having “secret tapes in his basement” was beyond silly in retrospect, and when they re-ran Strombo’s interview with Rae last night — surprise, surprise — it was conveniently edited out!
Stephen Harper probably wasn’t even born yet when Bob Rae was an activist in the 60’s when the RCMP spied on him.

Geeze, Stephen Harper barely knows the guy even exists.
I bet that Conservative government that had the RCMP spy on ‘Radical Robbie Rae’* back in the ’60s is rueing the day now that Rae is about to become Liberal Party leader, eh?/
    *lol whata delusional douche*
i guess Robbie Rae musta been a member of the Waffle Movement
