It’s pretty clear:
Anonymous sources have as much weight as police chiefs.
So the CBC lied. What else is new?
Quelle surprise.
And the anonymous sources aren’t “interested parties”?
Proof again that journalism isnt a profession, or only in a way that prostitution is a profession.
In further news, liquid water is wet.
The Chief and Mayor Ford should not accept this crap from the CBC “Ombudsman”.
It’s a Communistic tactic, investigate yourself and rule in your favour.
It’s lucky for the CBC and the Ombudsman that times have changed and calling the Sheriff or the Mayor a liar is not a shooting offense.
Different circles they move in, where I come from it’s bad for somebody’s health to call another man a liar.
The cbc did another hatchet job on Ford at Christmas because of a 911 call also. I predict that this story will also be investigated by the ombudsman, and cbc will be cleared again.
Ford’s mother-in-law phoned because her daughter was upset,maybe. http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/toronto/story/2011/12/30/rob-ford-911-call.html
The CBC is looking increasingly desperate these days.
In past years they were free to espouse thinly disguised progressive views on the taxpayer’s dime with little overview, all the while proclaiming how essential they were to Canada. To question the CBC’s role was down right unpatriotic.
But now the winds are shifting. People are calling their bluff. It must be bewildering for them.
“Proof again that journalism isnt a profession, or only in a way that prostitution is a profession.” Posted by: Stephen at January 7, 2012 5:30 PM
We resent that.
So there is all sorts of bias and influence around?
How about the influence the liberal party has on the CBC’s coverage of them after they promise to increase the CBC budget?
Or what influence there might be on the CBC’s coverage of the Conservatives if they mention cutting the CBC budget?
Odd how you can go to the CBC website and search for the story on Liberal MP Judy Sgro ripping us off for $100,000.00 in a rent scam and there is no mention of it.
In the CBC’s eyes Ford is guilty of being a conservative.
“CBC News is a major media organization with a reputation for high-quality investigative and precision journalism as part of its public mission.”
This is laughable. Does he actually believe this? If so, he is delusional. If not, then he is a liar of epic proportions.
“CBC News is a major media organization with a reputation for high-quality investigative and precision journalism as part of its public mission.”
So here’s the apparent thought process:
1) Someone says the CBC’s actions do not reflect it’s reputation.
2) The CBC has a great reputation.
3) Therefore, the CBC must be right.
Astounding use of logic.
Amongst a people generally corrupted liberty cannot exist, that’s what CBC reminds me of.
The CBC . . . almost as useless as Kirk Lapointe.
And that’s really, really bad.
Time to introduce funding restraint to the CBC pensioners, I’d say. Certainly no more CBC people will become GOCs.
Blair and Ford could clear this matter up quickly by releasing the tape of the 911 call. But they won’t. Ford is a congenital liar and Blair is incompetent.
But think carefully here. Without the CBC who would carry the Suzuki programs and national social engineering treasures like “little Mosque on the Prairie”? Who would carry the fight on evil oil and earth killing CO2 ?. Viewers by the tens would be deprived of the education so dear to our Canadian left. It’s only a billion a year and we all know that’s already inadequate as far as the CBC is concerned. How can we be so un canadian and pick on this proud institution? Shame….or something like that.
CBC ombudsman, who owes his living to CBC, finds no wrongdoing with his fellow personnel.
There, headline fixed.
“‘Is just isn’t clear whom’, Mr. LaPointe… wrote.
“Whom”?!? This guy’s a “former newspaper editor”…
Let’s remember: Kirk Lapointe, the CBC Ombudsman, like Vince Carlin before him, is a former employee of the CBC. He worked for them for six years. http://www.journalism.ubc.ca/faculty/kirk_lapointe
How this is not construed as a conflict of interest is totally beyond me, but doesn’t seem to concern either Lapointe or the CBC. What tools.
When I contacted the Ombudsman about Walsh’s, aka Delahunty’s, virtual verbal and physical assault on Mayor Ford on his private property, I was told that if his answer wasn’t to my liking I could contact Esther Enkin, executive editor. When I contacted Ms. Enkin, she upheld the integrity of CBC’s journalistic standards, but said that if I was dissatisfied with her reply, I could contact Mr. Lapointe.
I’m still in that Lapointe/Enkin/Lapointe revolving door and haven’t yet heard from Mr. Lapointe. I’m fully expecting, come Monday, to find this weasel-word response from the CBC Ombudsman in my inbox.
The CBC is beyond the pale. ‘Magical thinking: “I say it is, therefore it is, notwithstanding your facts to the contrary.” The CBC has no journalistic integrity. Apparently, according to Lapointe’s report, “The CBC’s coverage of a confrontation between Mayor Rob Ford and a comedienne with the This Hour Has 22 Minutes comedy program did not violate the corporation’s journalistic standards,” which simply proves that the CBC had damned well better get a new and higher set of standards because, as things stand, their so-called “journalistic standards” are in the gutter.
Perhaps I’m the only one who believes that the “Marg Delahunty” bit is dated, irrelevant, and not very funny at all.
And the CBC “ambushes” this guy in his own driveway for a cheap laugh and then solemnly reports that he over-reacted.
I wonder how some of the talking-heads would take it? How about spraying, say, Craig Oliver with a seltzer bottle to see if he’s a good sport?
Pick your own favorite.
To back up batb’s comment, I sent an e-mail to LaPointe. He responded with a report that absolved the cbc,and then forwarded my letter to Enkin.
Her letter opened with this line ” Thank you for your e-mail of July 23 addressed to Kirk LaPointe, CBC Ombudsman. Since CBC News falls in my remit, I would like to reply.”
She closed with this line,” It is also my responsibility to tell you that if you are not satisfied with this response, you may wish to submit the matter for review by the CBC Ombudsman.”
SOP,and we pay for it.
Perhaps, as most contributors here at SDA are just as, or more qualified, as the ombudsman to determine whether the actions of the CBC are proof of journalistic malpractice, would it be appropriate that some of the SDA regulars submit a report with a bit more accuracy?
Said report could then be published here with perhaps a tip given to Sun News of the pending release of the dissenting report?
Apologies for the run on sentence.
I am a person of high integrity, all my neighbours and family say so. I have investigated the phone call to the same level that Kirk LaPointe has. I have determined that CBC is an interested party with a political agenda and general anti-Ford viewpoint.
I have based this on the same amount of evidence that Mr LaPointe has and because I am neither a CBC employee, past or present, or a police officer, past or present, my judgement carries more weight and is therefore correct.
Honestly, he made it up!
lberia at January 7, 2012 7:26 PM – That’s libel, I hope a lawsuit changes your attitude.
Journalists, lawyers and prostitutes are all professionals. The difference is that prostitutes stop screwing with you when you die.
Not libel, there is plenty of evidence proving Ford a liar and Blair incompetent. In any case, LET’S HEAR THE TAPE!
Concerning the 911 call, whether or not iberia’s allegations that “Ford is a congenital liar and Blair is incompetent” are immaterial here.
There’s no way that the mayor’s 911 call should have been reported on at all. First, the CBC provoked the call and then made it their business to divulge “information about the 911 call” from “multiple sources” who, they say, “stand behind what they have told us.”
No citizen should have a media investigation into their calls to 911, let alone have their information made public. Divulging information about Mayor Ford’s call is despicable — especially as the media outlet that reported it provoked the call.
How about the CBC’s being made to divulge their “multiple sources” who, apparently, stand behind their allegations against Mayor Ford? Are any of these sources 911 employees? Are they not bound not to divulge personal information to the media? If not, why not? If so, why is Mayor Ford in the dock and not the 911 employees?
Someone forgot to “sanitise” the comments:
“Which CBC source will get the journalism award this year?
And the nominees are:
Many Wonder
Some Speculate
Un-named Sources
Insiders
and Pulled Out Of Peter’s Ass.”
Laughed my a$$ off!
Truth? Bill Blair?
Not the same Bill Blair from the Cdn. Assoc. of Chiefs of Police who concoted all those stories about the absolute necessity of the gun registry?
As much as I despise the CBC, I’d have to call this one a wash.
Sure batb, in fact, there was no reason for Ford to call 911, then to go and lie about the events leading him to make the 911 call. Then to go and abuse the 911 staff. If Ford didn’t abuse the 911 staff, what does he have to lose to allow the tape to be released? If the CBC is lying, why isn’t Ford suing?
Jamie, what the hell was the CBC doing in the first place, investigating Mayor Ford’s 911 call? What he said in that call should be private information and has absolutely nothing to do with Police Chief Bill Blair with whom, BTW, I’m not impressed either.
Not being impressed with Blair, however, is completely beside the point.
The CBC had no business a) accosting Mayor Ford in his own driveway or b) sticking their nose into what he did or didn’t say in a 911 call provoked by their trespassing on his private property.
I’m deeply disturbed that so-called “reliable sources,” according to the CBC, divulged the contents of Mayor Ford’s phone call to the media. It makes me call into question the respecting of privacy rights of individuals who call 911. If I was to call them, would “reliable sources” at 911 tell others what I said? The thought of that is extremely disquieting — and IMO, it is extremely disquieting that the contents of the mayor’s call was made known to a media outlet — especially to the outlet that provoked the call in the first place.
‘Talk about a setup. The CBC’s behaviour has been despicable and no amount of weasel words from Kirk Lapointe, CBC Ombudsman and former employee of the CBC, exonerates the Mother Corpse.
Complaining to the CBC Ombudsman is like shouting up the arsehole of a dead horse.
Send complaints to the PM and your Conservative MP
North of 60, that’s the most delightfully colorful and apt metaphor I’ve read in some time. Bon mot! 🙂
Oh, poor little batb, upset that Dear Fat Mayor may have had his “privacy” infringed upon. He needs to grow a sense of humour, among other things.
Did you ever think that after Mayor Rob Fcuking Ford called the 911 operator a female dog that she may feel like it’s time for some retribution. You keep dancing around the solution: if Ford didn’t swear at the operator, why won’t he release the tape? Perhaps it’s because he’s a foul mouthed liar.

Three backhands shy of salient once again eh?
What part of private property and public mocking do you not understand?
Clue…The Warrier Princess has mounted many attacks. Can you name another that occured at any other politicians home?
I very much doubt that we’d have this problem if CCW was allowed. A seemingly deranged individual charging a person and their child with a sword on ones private property would have been dealt with neatly with a head shot. Would have also had a significant impact on improving the quality of comedy in this country. I’m curious how often this type of “comedic” event occurs south of the Canadian border.
Unless the mayor was blind isn’t it likely he would have seen the camera person behind the woman dressed up for Halloween? In any case the woman was way out of line to confront someone at their residence early in the morning. I think he should have cold-cocked the bitch.

No, the point is that we are supposed to believe that a CBC political flunky should be satisfied with an assurance from another political flunky who happens to be a Police Chief.
This topic has nothing to do about the CBC’s or Walsh’s lack of ethics/propriety concerning the bushwhacking of Ford. That was well established a few months ago.
So once again, the CBC investigated itself and cleared the CBC of wrongdoing. I’m SO impressed.
Should we quetion CBC impartiality…it is a crown corporation, funded entirely by the taxpayer and when push comes to shove it meets two of it’s primary objectives; protecting the french language across Canada, most of which is English speaking and brings Hockey Night In Canada to remote parts of the country.
CBC Ombudsman = CBC apologist.
“On the one hand, CBC News is a major media organization with a reputation for high-quality investigative and precision journalism as part of its public mission.”
???SINCE WHEN???
I wonder why marg whats her name isn’t in jail for trespassing and assault?
Perhaps because it wasn’t trespassing or assault, otherwise charges would have been laid. Hey, it’s all on film. And it’s available to the public, unlike the 911 recording that Ford is so afraid of releasing.
Yeah, it is all on film, which is why it’s a crock that charges aren’t being laid — or, at the very least, a crock that the CBC Ombudsman has defended the CBC’s “journalistic standards.” What standards? The CBC, obviously, doesn’t have any worth the ink in which they’re printed.
Walsh, uninvited, having not called ahead, and on his private property, had her hands all over Mayor Ford. Just because she’s a (majorly minor) celebrity doesn’t give her or the CBC the right to move in on someone’s private property and paw them, while verbally assaulting them.
‘You think if SunTV showed up one morning in Bob Rae’s driveway with a camera crew to film one of SunTV’s female employees putting their paws all over him while verbally harassing him — and with the intent of making fun of him — that the media would be jumping to their defense?
Not on your life. There’d be hell to pay — from the CBC and all of the other lamestream media types and, no doubt, a law suit would follow. (You know those Liberals: litigious-happy, especially when c/Conservatives are involved.)
What the CBC did is pure, infantile, not-funny, crap and what the Ombudsman did by exonerating this ambush of Mr. Ford is, likewise, pure crap. It stinks to high heaven and in the long run, I don’t think it’s going to help the CBC, which is already in deep doo-doo, given their ever-decreasing viewer share.
