Its just a start, but the Bakken is 24 Billion Barrels and counting.
Harold Hamm, the Oklahoma-based founder and CEO of Continental Resources, the 14th-largest oil company in America, is a man who thinks big. He came to Washington last month to spread a needed message of economic optimism: With the right set of national energy policies, the United States could be “completely energy independent by the end of the decade. We can be the Saudi Arabia of oil and natural gas in the 21st century.”

Oil is the wrong colour!
The envirofascists will now attack the development in the Bakken. They will build a new airport somewhere in North Dakota to handle the jets to bring in the know-it-all boneheads from Hollywood.
Obama has not got it wrong….he knows….so do his czars…it is deliberate.
If Obama could stop ALL oil/gas production with a stroke of a pen, he would in a heartbeat.
…And it is not about the environment….that’s just an excuse….
FTA: (And Barack Hussien Obama says to Hamm;) “Oil and gas will be important for the next few years. But we need to go on to green and alternative energy. [Energy] Secretary [Steven] Chu has assured me that within five years, we can have a battery developed that will make a car with the equivalent of 130 miles per gallon.”
That’s just great Mr. President, but what are the trains, planes, boats and trucks gona run on ?
And, Who the hell is we ?
,
Good for Harold Hamm, from child of of an Oki sharecropper to 33rd richest man in the US.
The oil reserve total for the US is looking better. Too bad it does not currently have a President who will exploit these reserves.
Hmmm, wonder if Harold is related to one of my son-in-laws?
4 more years of Obama while Stephen Harper is in Ottawa, might not be such a bad thing for Canada.

Although the Keystone pipeline wouldn’t have gone through North Dakota, the State was hoping to tap into it for its own oil distribution.
Obama doesn’t recognize a “win-win” situation when it’s staring him in the face.
Where is James Cameron when the Enviros need him? Or does he only care about shutting down Canadian oil?
Allah almighty,I hope the Yankees have the sense to boot that communist SOB outta the White House, and let America do business again.

Which would make them waaaaaaayyyy smarter than us.
How many years of McGuinty? Trudeau?
OBAMA “within five years, we can have a battery developed that will make a car with the equivalent of 130 miles per gallon”
Coal fired cars?? Why do we want coal fired cars??
Don’t expect any rtional energy polic which benefits producers or consumers from the criminal poser currently IC with the signing of the NDAA and defacto repeal of habias corpus and fundamental legal rights, the whole US government is in constitutional breech and open to being empeached or recalled by the people.
Watch for the “impeach Obama” banners at the super bowl.
As others have pointed out – cheap energy is freedom, expensive energy is the opportunity for regulation and government.
Years ago a member of the British upper class spoke against the spread of the street car system. He claimed it “would encourage the working class to ride about aimlessly.”
Things haven’t changed much.

We are gona give the SOB a run for our money.
because the feds have rarely if ever prosecuted the Obama administration’s beloved wind industry, which kills hundreds of thousands of birds each year.

I don’t give a shite who wins the Republican nomination,
I will vote for him/her.
America has to get rid of the Obama Clown.
Obama isn’t just a communist who wants to dismantle industrial America. He is an economic criminal. But he is so bizarre he would be not guilty because of insanity. Whose side is he on in the oil business? OPEC?
If North America were energy self-sufficient it could ignore the rest of the world and quit sending their sons to die to maintain oil supplies.
America moves on wheels, wings and propellers. When the cost of moving these becomes too expensive the whole economy slows down. Windmills will not bring home the groceries. Just too bad that this simple logic eludes the one person with the ability to make the required changes. The battle cry should be “drill baby drill” instead of “hug a tree and save Gaia”.
America is on her knees. I never thought I would see this day.
One of the great (and few) brightlights in the global economy is the oil and gas sector. if in the next few years new oil – and more significantly and lastingly – and gas production comes online in large enough and persistent enough volume to drive oil prices down to the 25$ range it could trigger an economic boom around the globe. The greater side-effect of that boom is that it would bankrupt radical islam (just as the last great oil price implosion that began in 1986 bankrupted the FSU).
One of the most gratifying things that Albertans and Canadians should be very proud of is that the technology that is making all of this possible was commercialized here. We are enabling the economic and political salvation of the entire world. This is a story that is as remarkable as the invention of the PC. Sadly, it is likely that it will never be widely known or recognized.
“We can be the Saudi Arabia of oil and natural gas in the 21st century.”
Careful what you wish for.

Whenever I here talk of an any economic ‘strategy’ at the national scale, I just say no.

We all knew it, but after that gem, you might consider going anon!
?
Oil rich states are nearly always rat-holes (excepting Canada and Norway).
I’m not sure what the connection is, but I can imagine a few.
