The Tolerant Left

Ezra Levant;

Calgary’s Muslim mayor, Naheed Nenshi, has been held up as a symbol of the city’s tolerance. Which is ironic, given his own anti-Christian bigotry in return.
Last week, Nenshi ordered city police, backed up with a ridiculously large contingent of private security, to arrest a Christian pastor and five of his congregants who had the temerity to lead a Christmas service in the public atrium of Calgary’s City Hall.
Artur Pawlowski, lead pastor of Calgary’s Street Church, had foolishly taken the mayor at his word when he described city hall as the city’s “living room,” open to all.
What Pawlowski didn’t understand is that Nenshi didn’t mean Christians. Nenshi meant his own co-religionists — no, not Muslims, but the leftist activists who had comprised the Occupy Calgary protests for two months with Nenshi’s blessing.

  1. The Calgary mayor is loosing his cool.
The preacher does not belong in the city hall, other than on business with the city.

  2. I would presume the good citizens of Calgary felt an inner glow- well those who voted for the new mayor. A sort of evaluation of one’s now arrival in the scheme of things. Multi-Culture reigns.

In Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario the voters elected the very first woman mayor. Sort of felt smug myself as I voted for her. Had I have been sensible, I would have considered her excellent work as a counsellor only No, felt I had put aside male prejudice to vote that way. (how stupid). Just has the makings of a first class mayor, so far. If this gentleman was voted in by those who wanted to bask in the old multiculti sun, they may regret it. It is the person that counts.

“Asians work like dogs.” Rob Ford, Toronto Mayor
Rizwan, it may be hard for you to understand this cultural quirk, but in Canada to “work like dogs” can be considered a complement.
On the other hand he could have sounded more like the Liberal strategist Warren Kensilla and said something like “Asian’s eat dogs, and Muslims act like dogs” which would have been much more insulting to Asians. Although they do indeed eat dog in China, I’ve had various dishes there myself and it can be delicious, fried or roasted. I did not care much for the boiled dog soup however.

“More immigrants, less homicides. Is there a correlation?”
    Answer = No.
Instead look at what truly reflects the immigration crime problem:
Notice that in “Liberal” Toronto that Religion is the target of hate based crimes the most frequently, the largest victim group are Jews. Next is black, then homosexuals – good all around Muslim fare, no?
Of course the Universities and leftist chattering classes will tell you this is white Christian males committing the crimes, but if you look carefully they are also well represented as victims from varying places and ethnicities as well.
Of course probably most of these crimes go unreported so the numbers are probably much higher across the board – the point is that multiculturalism is a mess, and it’s getting bigger.

  7. Next Calgary civic election there should be primaries in all the Wards to select the best non-incumbent. We’ve got to stop the vote splitting. That’s the only way to get rid of the self serving incompetent rot in our city hall.

  8. Ric McIver was virtually guaranteed to be Calgary’s mayor,
but then some dim-witted ex-news reader named Barb Higgins decided to jump into the race.
A decision she said was made “around the kitchen table”.
I’d be interested to know who was sitting around that table.
    She split the conservative vote.
This split vote led to Nenshi’s victory.
She’s never been heard of since.

  12. From the Hamilton Spectator
Research indicates that immigrants to Canada have lower overall crime rates than those who are nonimmigrants.
Furthermore, as the number of newcomers to Canada surges, overall crime in the country has continued to drop.
A study in the 1990s by the Correctional Service of Canada found that immigrants in all regions and age groups were under-represented among those serving two or more years in federal penitentiaries.
Stereotypes linking ethnic minorities and crime are formed because the issue of racial visibility, Wong said. “Because immigrants are visible — by their names, their look or their skin colour, people just jump to conclusions: ‘Oh, they are immigrants. They are criminals.’”
In fact, the immigrant is often used as the scapegoat for dominant society’s anxieties over identity, Rees said. “We don’t have the comfort level, the confidence necessarily, to live in a diverse and multicultural, multireligious community,” he said.
“And, partly, it’s our own insecurities and so the immigrant is an easy target.”

It is BS. I wrote a better comment that seems to have gotten stuck in the filters due to links.
In a nutshell, you only need to look at the Immigrant riots all over Europe, rape epidemics in Sweden & Denmark, annual riots with car-b-ques in France and Italy to know the truth.
Canada has not experienced the scale of immigrant riots of Europe yet only due to lower third world & Islamic immigrant numbers, less liberalized pandering in the law for immigrant crime, and an armed civilian population. They still fear stepping out and burning your car, but that will change as it has in Europe.
There is nothing more that we can do for the immigrant that the Liberal third world immigrant loving Europe has not already done for these people to prevent this in our future.
The entire situation across Europe makes Rizwan’s argument purely BS.

  14. Actually, chutzpahticular, it isn’t inconceivable that that this study is factually accurate. It is looking only at penitentiary populations, and thus considering only the most serious crimes. And it is considering quotas, that is, the proportion of the immigrant population in penitentiary as compared to in the public at large. There are so many Indians in the pen that it would hardly be surprising if white Canadians were also underepresented, and were appreciably less likely than immigrants to wind up in pen. There’s no way to tell from this report; both could be the case and the report would still read the same.
Of course, the comments quoted from the study’s authors are utter crap.

  15. I think the impression that immigrants are the cause of more crime than most Canadians is one held by people who don’t get out much and have never worked with immigrants.TV nightly News images don’t help much either, nor do they reflect reality.
Jane & Finch has probably done more harm to the image of newcomers than anything. I’ve worked with people from all over the world, and had no complaints about any specific group, maybe because I don’t believe in group identity, just individuals.
I’ve heard the odd bigotted remark about “Hindus” and “Chinks” on occasion, and have brought up short a few idiots.
Most Asians I’ve met have busted their butts to earn a living and make a better life for their kids. One Chinese guy who’s been a friend for over 20 years, came here, worked hard, brought the parents, and two brothers over, all worked at whatever they could find, not one went on welfare.
He’s one of the most decent people I know, raised as a peasant, worked as a “coolie” in Canton on the docks, said anything he did in Canada was easier than hauling 100 pound sacks of grain on his back, and is the first person I’d hire if starting a company.
The only non-Ismaili Muslim I ever worked with was an Iranian racist bigot who hated the Jews and preached his hatred until we finally told him to s-t-f-up! So, I won’t comment on what the average Shiite,Sunni,Druze,Wahhabi Muslim is like as I’ve never spent any time with them.
The Ismailis, no problem at all, very modern thinking hard working folks,a welcome addition to Canada.
Syed Soharwardy and his ilk, wish they’d stayed home.

  16. Knight99 and ebt…. this part…. “in fact, the immigrant is often used as the scapegoat for dominant society’s anxieties over identity, Rees said. ‘We don’t have the comfort level, the confidence necessarily, to live in a diverse and multicultural, multireligious community,’ he said.
‘And, partly, it’s our own insecurities and so the immigrant is an easy target.'”….is just speculation and way beyond legitimate comment that can be used in any authoritative capacity.

  17. chutzpahticular >
Yup. I’ve lived all over the world for decades, mostly in third world Islamic crapholes, some not so bad like Malaysia. I’ve lived in Singapore 6 months of the year for the last ten years, a hugely multicultural society (the other 6 months/ year home in Canada). They had some terrible race wars in the 60’s that has sorted itself out mostly due to the police type socialist state that it’s become. It’s very much a class/ race based society and there are always some underlying racial tensions.
That said I know variety of nice ethnic people from all over the world with many friends in too many countries to count.
That doesn’t change the fact that certain immigration and culture harms our own culture and society in a big way. ALL of these countries have race/ cultural problems many with allot of bloodshed. Some are within their own communities with only slight variations to their culture. Islamic culture in particular is a source of violence around the world. The “peaceful” Muslim communities in southern west Malaysia are extremely racist and bigoted to non Malays, particularly the Indian sub culture. They don’t even get along with the Indonesians very well, a cousin Islamic/ indiginous culture. They accept white westerners as tourists with money and expatriate expertise. In the north they violently cross border attack the mainly peaceful southern Buddhist Thailand people.
These f*cking intellectual flakes can go f*ck themselves if they want to armchair culture worship and tell me I don’t have a right to preserve my own culture and society from the mess I’ve witnessed firsthand around the world. I’ve lived, worked, and travelled from North Africa, to South America, the Middle East to most of all South East Asia and Asia for over 30 years.

  18. Knight99, then you know what you’re talking about.
A while ago, I was watching CNN’s Fareed Zacharia’s show; one of his guests was a cabinet minister or such from the gov’t of Singapore. They were discussing President Obama’s leadership, and the man from Singapore curled his lip and stated that Obama “is weak.” Weakness in a society that values discipline and control is scorned.
To expect Canadians to be doormats for immigrants who despise our way of life and our values is dead wrong. Those who seek better lives, and come here to assimilate and be part of what makes this country great, should be welcome.

  19. chutzpahticular >
“Those who seek better lives, and come here to assimilate and be part of what makes this country great, should be welcome”
I couldn’t agree more, but that unfortunately is not the bulk of who is coming here these days. If you cut out welfare, immigrant subsidies, and free healthcare, you would be amazed at the reduction of desperate applicants willing to come to -40C overnight.
Now there’s cutting the wheat from the chaff.

  20. Here is their rebuttal.
    Dear Warren,
Thank you for contacting Mayor Nenshi regarding the recent trespassing arrest of Artur Pawlowski (aka The Street Preacher) at City Hall, as reported by media personality Ezra Levant. The column written by Mr. Levant and published in several Sun Media news papers (“All Means All”) contains several significant errors.
Mayor Nenshi did not call in the police, nor a private security team, to evict Mr. Pawlowski from City Hall. City security discovered that Mr. Pawlowski had refused to submit the necessary paperwork to use the City Hall Atrium in the manner he wished. The decision to call the Police was made by the City’s security staff when Mr. Pawlowski refused to leave the Atrium following this discovery.
Any group who wishes to use City Hall for their own purposes must apply to do so through the City Clerk’s office. This is not a new process; it has been in place since before Mayor Nenshi took office and is there to ensure that there is adequate space, security, and insurance for any group that is going to gather in the Atrium. Mr. Pawlowski used the City Hall Atrium to preach earlier this fall without obtaining approval to do so. At that time, he was advised that he would need to follow the established process and apply for permission to host any future gatherings there. This procedure is the same for all groups, whether they are Christian, Muslim, Jewish, or anything else. Mr. Pawlowski was well aware of the consequences of failing to apply for permission when he chose to have his Christmas gathering at City Hall.
Violating city bylaws is nothing new for Mr. Pawlowski, as he has been charged with more than 70 violations over the past six years, most of which were a result of citizen complaints about his use of amplification equipment in public spaces. In the last court judgement on this matter, the courts upheld The City’s right to enforce its bylaws, a decision Mr. Pawlowski is appealing. This is not an issue about religion, but about an individual being advised of the proper procedure and failing to follow it. In fact, Mayor Nenshi has said that the Street Church is welcome to use the Atrium for their gatherings, provided they follow the proper process.
The City of Calgary’s approach to the Occupy Calgary protest was to obtain a municipal injunction against the protest to have it evicted from Olympic Plaza. Building the case for the injunction – and doing our best to ensure it would be successful – took time and this approach was applauded by the Courts as being a fair balancing of everyone’s rights. This was the procedure followed by most major Canadian cities.
Please feel free to contact Mayor Nenshi with any additional questions or comments.
