Merry Christmas Kate! All the best to you and yours.
Hope you are having a sweet Christmas Day Kate.
Nice duet.
When there is no peace on earth we can focus on faith in the Prince of Peace John 16:33
Now that’s a juxtaposition…Merry Christmas Kate.
Merry Christmas Kate.
Someone please help me. I recently changed computers. Now when I open SDA the boxes with video or picture links do not open. What must I do to view these stories? Merry Christmas!
Oh yeah, Jack here again. I have internet explorer
Merry Christmas, Kate, and a blessed New Year.
In all honesty, I loathe that piece of music.
Other than that, Merry CHRISTmas everyone.
Jack, I’m 83 and have had every kind of problem possible with computers.
My advice is to first check your security settings. They might be higher than you need.
This was the first time I ever heard of Bowie. As a ten year old in 1977 N.S., the radio was all AM top 40, disco or country. The local station even played chamber music on Sunday evenings. The K-Tel albums that got passed down from my younger aunts and uncles certainly didn’t have Bowie either. It wasn’t until Let’s Dance and Little China Girl that I started paying attention to him.
Still love to hear the old Spokane boy croon it out. David Bowie had a great voice as well but turned into a bit of a freak later on. Bing used to tavel up our way for a little stream fishing. The memories are pretty nostalgic.
Actually, 1977 was after the “freak” stage, as you call it. I assume you’re referring to the Ziggy Stardust on stage character.
Like a few others, Little Drummer Boy is one of my least favourite Christmas ditties. Bing Crosby, however, is just the best and a favourite of my grandmother.
An exquisite carol, written by Robert Herrick (1591-1674), put to music by John Rutter, and sung by the King’s College Cambridge Choir is What Sweeter Music (each to his/her own, I guess): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1ucVQSJunR4
Merry Christmas, Kate and Lance, and everyone here at SDA, the blog that puts fear into the hearts of the progressives!
I recall reading (though not where) that Bowie was so stoned he doesn’t remember recording this, and Crosby thought Bowie was a total a-hole just filling a much-needed gap.
@ djb
Must have been some other song as there is not the slightest indication that Bowie is stoned.
He didn’t record another with Crosby, peterj. They had never met before, and Crosby died a month later..
Kate, it was recorded in 1977, exactly during Ziggy… and towards the end of his legendary cocaine abuse.
“Crosby died a month later..”
David Bowie killed Bing Crosbie!? Start a rumour start a rumour!
There’s nothing Christmasy in the version française of this song… the drummer boy’s father went off with the soldiers to play the drum and never returned.
I can now die whole and complete.
Wow! That was something. A drug abuser and a child abuser all on one wonderful video.
Now there is a juxtaposition!
