This screenshot was taken yesterday on CKNW’s Facebook page. Her words could have come from The Onion or SNL, but indeed they came directly from her very own “progressive” mind. This woman is not a young kid. Just imagine the damage she has done by imparting her “wisdom” onto all the youth around her.
For those interested in the cyber equivalent of banging their head against the wall, here’s her Twitter page. She clearly deserves a gold medal for mindless drivel.
I’m guessing she’s a social worker of some sort.

Right there is the biggest problem in northern BC. People move up here to escape Vancouver but then they want all the Vancouver comforts of home as well. Those people can stay down there and we’ll continue to roam the countryside, savage bands logging and mining and drilling for oil.
BUT…BUT…BUT…how am I going to survive and thrive unless the government ensures success?

Not a new phenomenon. When I left home with one suitcase, some 35 years ago, a lot of my friends expressed the same sentiments. I’m sure my ancestor got a few similar comments in 1783, when he sailed for Canada.
Those who pick up and go never have these thoughts. They have hope and dreams, and the will to make them come true. I suppose that’s why we can never go home. There’s no one left we can relate to.

I was an immigrant kid at the age of 12 and left my Southern Ontario parents’ home 50 years ago; I had 18 addresses in 30 years and most of those times was heading into the unknown. I can only shake my head at someone who requires the nanny state to hold their hand.

These gals love the idea of nanny government and are not able to understand that the function of government is not to be their mother or their boyfriend. The North here in B.C. IS where all the development is right now,and they DO need workers,BUT, it’s a tough life living in construction camps.

It’s not just Victoria Robert – nanny state reliance/slavery is pretty well universally spread throughout western socialist societies. By my rough reckoning 60% of the population is a total write-off politically/intellectually/ethically. These blobs (of varying degrees) simply want to exist in a comfortable state illusion of security in return for their passivity to state corruption/aggression – a civil passivity devoid of passion for individual liberty, independence, rational self-interest, independent thought and moral civil imperatives. They are either blissfully unaware of the soft tyranny descending on us by aggressive statism or they are and choose to go along to get along. These constitute the walking dead they believe there is nothing worth fighting for except a handout – they have existed in all ages and all times. It is the 20% or more of sensate reasoning beings to whom we must appeal – they are aware of the tyranny of excessive/aggressive statism the corruption it has spread in economics and society – they’re alarmed but unsure of direction lacking in leadership as all individualists are.
20% is all that has ever been needed to propel an effective social revolution. Once it gets rolling the blobs always do along to get along. In this case the revolution must take us back to the roots of populist democracy, free civil society, laissez faire free markets and Austrian school economics. The movement leadership is unimportant. The movement is what counts. But it takes two things we lack right now – a cohesive movement and wide spread commitment to activism against both socialist kleptocracy and nanny state tyranny.
Without that, nanny state tyranny/austerity will continue unabated as it services only the walking dead.

Reminds me of a discussion thread I saw on the Globe recently, about global warming and a teacher encouriaging kids to berate their parents for their evil carbon-emitting ways.
The teacher was then criticised for being a hypocrite – of course she drives to school from her house in the burbs. So she fired back something along the lines of “Well what do you expect me to do? I can’t afford a house like this downtown!”
So rent an apartment within walking distance! Have your kids share a bedroom! These entitled, hypocritical enviro-leftists have absolutely no clue what the true face of “conservation” looks like.
They figure it’s just a matter of switching to flourescent bulbs, using the recycling bin, regurgitating propaganda, and they’re done. Everything else is of course up to the government – shut down all oil sands operations, replace all power generation with unreliable windmills at 30x the price, give us electric cars that cost less than the cheapest Hyundai. And of course none of that will affect anyone negatively who isn’t “evil”.

She would have only one use up north, and the labour would come later (about 9 months).
A northern tour of a few years would do every young adult a huge favour in growing up quickly, and learning the basic necessities of getting it together. Doesn’t matter if it’s PG, Ft St John (my tour of duty), Ft Nelson, Whitehorse, or any other town. Better a $25/hr job there, than a barista at Starbucks, but the typical choice of the urban crowd is just that, until it’s too late.
No offense, but it doesn’t have to be forever. Beautiful country, love to return one day, for a month.

Geez – I spent some time in Chetwynd a few years back. Having Wal Mart up there would have been GREAT! By the way, if I can’t find what I am looking for in “ethnic” food in Victoria, I can usually find it at the Wal Mart “ethnic” section. It remains the only place that I can find decent deep fried plantain chips, although I have to watch the calories.
Glad to say that there are very few people like “Victoria” in the S. interior of BC. I kick myself for not moving out of the moonbat capital of Canada sooner than I did. “Victoria” probably sees her doctor as a last resort when her colon therapist and reflexologist can’t help her. She’s probably one of the worried well overutilizing the lower mainlands medical system “because it’s free”.
Where I live now people mainly own their own homes and work in either N. Alberta, N. BC or NWT. What they get paid makes up for the 16 hour days they work in the NWT, but then there’s not much to do up there except work. Can’t believe that many of the oil sands companies fly their employees to and from their homes to the work camps every couple of weeks at the companies expense. My work in the NWT involved living in tents and bathing occasionally in the nearest river whereas now the employees live in luxurious quarters. I can’t imagine anyone wanting to live in Vancouver now when they’ve got the opportunities for working in N. Alberta or BC.

Obviously Victoria has never visited the great Northern communities. If she did some of her comments would be laughable. The cities up north have been there for years and are continuing to grow. They have all the amenities that you find in the big cities, just on a smaller scale and not the same stores over and over again. When you have the big chain stores invade smaller communities, you know that expansion is forthcoming as they don’t make a move unless their bottom line is assured.
Just checked FB and Dear Victoria has replied. Her opening two sentences are golden:
“I am all for self-reliance. I don’t believe in a nanny state at all.”
The sad thing is that she probably believes her own B.S.!!!

I learn more from people who disagree with me than from those who think the same way so your posts have been enlightening and I appreciate the time you spent in posting them.
Some of the assumptions were off base, but I understand how these are common assumptions made of people who ask questions and are concerned with healthy communities. With what’s been presented in the world these days, it’s natural that some folks assume the needy are the ones taking the money from the middle class, not the rich. Though that would be wrong as well. As is the assumption that the issues in the post were to be government paid.
My personal information is not anyone’s business but I do want to say that I have worked in the corporate and legal world for over 20 years, have never needed a government handout,and believe we should work for what we get.
That said, detaching from each other so much that we don’t care if someone needs some help, and accusing those who do need help of being lazy or worthless, creates distance between us and some negative energy inside the angry.
It doesn’t hurt me when someone is angry with my thoughts – and they are just that, thoughts – it hurts the health of the person who is negative. That, for me, is disappointing. I desire healthy and open discussions.
If you are interested, I did respond in the CKNW thread… just to clarify. I’m happy with how I care for the world and the people in it. I hope all of you are enjoying happy lives as well.

If “the needy” are people perennially on welfare then yes, by definition they are taking money from taxpayers. The rich are more often than not income-generators and are only a drain on the middle and working classes if a)they outright stole it [pretty rare] or b)they are the beneficiaries of “corporate welfare” or “crony capitalism”. This sort of thing is not free-market capitalism and actually has more in common with the branch of socialism known as fascism.
Anger is not necessarily a bad thing. An inability to feel or express anger is deeply unhealthy. Still, I think that the fact that you are going out of your way to be polite on a thread which has been very hostile to you personally is admirable.
I would say to Victoria that there are no guarantees in life about anything…If someone needs a job of course he/she should move where the jobs are. Looking for guarantees from Big Nanny Govt is a result of the wussificafion of our culture…
I give Victoria credit for, at least, being willling to face the verbal lions. However, I believe she deludes herself on her level of self-reliance and opposition to the “nanny state”. Most poor communities throughout the world would benefit from and be exstatic with a Walmart, by the way.

With respect to Walmart, I really do understand how saving some money immediately seems to help those with low income. The problem is that the money spent flows out of the community. And though Walmart employs people, if there were no Walmart but instead a supermarket, a book store, a clothing store and an appliance store, all who have employees, the money (profit) would remain in the local economy, enabling more people to spend in the community.
I don’t have a problem with affordable items. But we see communities all over the States which have become poorer after the development of the big box stores. When locally owned and operated business shut down because of Walmart and ones like it, that isn’t economic development for anyone in the community.
I understand that with startup communities the Walmart would not be putting someone out of business but it would make it very hard to start any competition. And competition in business is healthy and adds diversity to a community.
As for my belief in self-reliance and opposition to a nanny state, that belief doesn’t have to mean that we can’t connect with each other and help each other. And that help doesn’t mean handouts or giving money. I would love to see individuals less reliant on government and more connected to community and family.
Many of the people in need are just in need of some support and guidance, not a trade or money.
The more comfortable we are in having these discussions with new people and with people who see things differently from the way we do, the more connected we are and the more we will be able to solve some of these problems without throwing tax money at them.
I think many of us, that includes me, have similar desires for the bad spending in government to stop. My way of going about it is to see if people can connect, solve some issues, be educated on the issues they can’t solve enough to make informed voting decisions and then vote.
I never want to see a communist or fascist state in Canada. I do want it to continue to be a country to which other countries look for guidance and as an example.
We can always do more for our country and our communities. My way is not the way for everyone. It’s just my small part. I like to connect and learn from others. I’ve seen that make small but positive differences and will continue in this way. Just as all of you choose a path that feels right and serves you and your families. Whether or not I agree with someone else’s path, I respect their right to choose that path and learn their lessons along the way.
My hope is that people start looking at each other as more complex beings. When we assume that one post says everything about a person that we could ever possibly want to know, we rob ourselves of potential friends and partners on the journey. I’ve learned that first impressions are often telling but they are not the whole story. And if we add in our own biases and assumptions about the person, we can easily put more distance between us.
So, though many have said some hostile things about and to me with respect to the original thread, I find it very hard to consider one or several hostile or sarcastic posts on one topic a fair representation of a whole person. I know the internet is full of people waiting to lash out, but it’s my experience that most people post with an extreme bias or with venom because of some personal experience. And when I consider what that might be, I realize that I have no idea what any of your lives have been like. All I know is that you have lived long enough to find this thread. Your experiences have brought you here and inspired you to engage in discussion. To make assumptions about any of you or to attack back takes me off course.
Maybe we can turn this discussion into something more productive by discussing some of the issues in the CKNW thread. I’m open to learning what you think and what made you all respond to this particular blog post.
