  1. *Negative consequences*

“We cannot overstate the importance of protecting the confidentiality of this information, or the negative consequences that would result if it were made public.” — Canadian Broadcasting Corp. President and CEO Hubert Lacroix.

This, remarkably, from the head of the network whose reporters, like Terry Milewski, relentlessly campaigned to try to force the government to release unredacted, highly sensitive documents pertaining to the mission in Afghanistan, and portrayed the redactions as a self-evident outrage.
The CBC: contemptible, partisan, fraudulent, hypocritical.

  2. This is always an interesting debate. Be forewarned it has Religious overtones.
THE LEADING EDGE by Phillip E. Johnson
    Freed Science
The assumption that science knows of a naturalistic, mindless mechanism that could and did take life all the way from lifeless chemicals to Homo sapiens is so important that I concluded that critical analysis should, for the time being, put aside such distracting issues as the authority of the Bible or the age of the earth, so all attention could be focused on the naturalistic mechanism of biological creation.

Something else tells me – who has the money to buy their products !?

  4. Occupy Seattle Disrupts Pro-Occupy Forum:
“No sooner had the panel finished opening remarks last night than a woman scampered up onto stage and yelled, ‘Mic check!’ It was an orchestrated effort by several dozen activists to use the People’s Mic to interrupt a forum at Town Hall—a forum in favor of Occupy Wall Street, featuring three wonks and three activists from Occupy Seattle. Their stunt replaced what was supposed to be an informed discussion of the movement with an uninformative, shout-a-thon about process that consumed most of the evening. They booed opinions they disagreed with and drove supporters out of the building.
“‘I walked in supportive and left unsupportive,’ said 69-year-old Mary Ann, who declined to provide her last name…”

Ive read the same thing about politicians but it too was written by a lobby group.

Several links to podcasts and articles based on the new book out today:
‘Throw Them All Out’ by Perter Schweizer.
It includes 60 minutes expose on Pelosi.
This should bring demand for change in how elected reps can use inside knowledge for personal financial dealings, but, I do not know what it takes anymore to get things done differently.
This is a good place to start, however.

  7. EBD, any feedback from others on how SLOW sda has become lately. Used to be one of the quickest loading sites on the net. I don’t think it’s my system.

  8. Me No Dhimmi, I had one email about that, but the vast majority of commenters here don’t have my email address, so…
Short answer is, I’m not sure how many people are having that problem, or if it’s a problem.

  9. A muslim died and went to heaven. St. Peter met him at the pearly gates. St. Peter says we do not allow muslims into heaven. The muslim asked why. St. Peter said we just don’t. The muslim said why I am a christian. St. Peter said what good have you done recently? The muslim said I gave $10.00 to a charity 6 months ago, 2 months ago A homeless man needed money for food, I gave him $10.00 and last week I gave $10.00 to a drunk to get a bottle. St. Peter said let me talk to god. He came back in about 5 minutes and said here is your $30.00 now f*ck off.

Gerry Ritz spoke at the Rural Municipal convention in Regina last week and the applause for him was overwhelmingly louder than it was for the two questioners who tried to accuse him of doing something illegal.
That was quite the video of the starling Murmuration.
Me No Dhimmi, I do not seem to be having a problem.

  11. Re: Slow Loading.
    I blame Harper!! Just kidding.
I think it’s Sask-Tel internet. Went to a bank today, they experience the same when doing transactions.
Come on Brad–give is more Bradband!

  12. Re: slow loading: My computer was just brutally slow including loading SDa, TheBlackKettle and other sites. Shaw Cable changed from FSecure to Mcafee for virus protection. Once I remove FSecure and installed Mcafee everything was back to normal.
SDA and all others load instantly, no more freezes and lockups.
    Vcr Island Mike

  13. “That was quite the video of the starling Murmuration.”
“’murmuration’ make fantastical shapes as the flock wheel and dive through the air.”
I’ve often wondered what that was called.
It is my absolute favourite trait of birds.
    Ohhh….to see that live…..

  14. In regards to slow SDA page loads…
SDA usually is the slowest site to load for me, but I have always assumed it was the amount of “hits” it received 🙂

  15. The astonishing Chris Matthews: Republicans can’t make a candidate decision because a)they are “consumed with hate” and incapable of liking anyone and b)they just don’t understand that you need lots of experience to be President (you know, like… oh, forget it). All this in just over a minute and a half.

  16. I use Teksavvy.com a family owned ISP located in Chatham Ontario.
They use Bell landlines and save me $50.00 per month as previously compared to Bell.
    No cap on usage.
SDA is loading quickly here, no problema!

  17. The murmuration was beautiful. What it would have been like to have been there!
SDA loads slowly sometimes–it seems to hang up on certain entries, particularly if they involve video clips.

  18. Vcr Island Mike,
I experienced the opposite here in Pennsylvania, when my broadband provider started offering free McAfee to subscribers. It was a resource hog and slowed things down. I called the ISP’s tech support on the problem and was told, off the record, that yes, McAfee is the problem. It’s a resource and memory hog. The cable broadband ISP has since switched to offering Norton Symantec Security Suite. More features, more individual control, much more user-friendly, MUCH LOWER demand on resources and memory.

  19. I had a port scan alert yesterday when i opened the main page of SDA . My firewall caught it (bit defender }. I just watched step 1 of banning beef . On ctv , they did a story about monitoring and measuring methane gas on cows , or from cows . More tonight on Daiy Planet . Won’t be long now . Sorry Bessie , you’re belching too much , you gotta go . Veganism by stealth.

  20. Harvard (Harvard!) students walk out of economics classe and join in at OWS as they disagree with a LAW of economics, namely that price is the inverse of the amount demanded [vis-a-vis minimum wages and employment]. And they write a pretty hilarious piece in the Crimson highlighting their pig-headed ignorance.

  21. Quick loading today, EBD. Yesterday it took about 34 seconds to open comments on a thread. 34 interminable seconds the world had to wait for my deathless prose.
    LOVED that murmuration. Gorgeous!
A photographer friend teases me about my inclusion of so many birds in my pix, esp. crows whom I greatly admire.

  22. For what it’s worth EBD, I often run into a specific problem wrt sda, but have never bothered to mention it. Usually, after I comment, whenever I return to that comments page it won’t update. In other words, my comment is always the last; unless, I comment again. Sometimes I comment “test” for example. What’s up with dat?

    “Activists attack Clinton convoy”
“MANILA, Philippines – (UPDATE – 3:55 p.m.) Left-wing youth activists attacked the convoy of US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton as she left Malacanang Palace following talks with President Benigno Aquino III Wednesday afternoon.
The activists managed to stop the convoy and briefly turn it back before they were pushed back by policemen and troops of the Presidential Security Group.”

  25. Me No Dhimmi and Indiana Homez, lately I’ve experienced the same issues re SDA.
Also, in the past—before a month or so ago—as soon as I’d type in “sm”, small dead animals would show up at the top of the list. It now stays near the bottom, all the time.
I’ve definitely noticed negative changes in accessing SDA and have wondered if it’s more than a technical glitch. (I’m altogether a computer nerd and so can’t check this out.) I’ve been suspecting some political agenda.
    ???

  26. lookout, why don’t you add SDA to your favourite’s list. No typing, just one click.
I have not noticed any loading problems,BTW.

SDA not good fol Mao. Roading uneven. Need rots of patience.

“Chinese TV Host Says Regime Nearly Bankrupt”
“China’s economy has a reputation for being strong and prosperous, but according to a well-known Chinese television personality the country’s Gross Domestic Product is going in reverse.
Larry Lang, chair professor of Finance at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, said in a lecture that he didn’t think was being recorded that the Chinese regime is in a serious economic crisis—on the brink of bankruptcy. In his memorable formulation: every province in China is Greece.
The restrictions Lang placed on the Oct. 22 speech in Shenyang City, in northern China’s Liaoning Province, included no audio or video recording, and no media. He can be heard saying that people should not post his speech online, or “everyone will look bad,” in the audio that is now on Youtube.
In the unusual, closed-door lecture, Lang gave a frank analysis of the Chinese economy and the censorship that is placed on intellectuals and public figures. “What I’m about to say is all true. But under this system, we are not allowed to speak the truth,” he said.
Despite Lang’s polished appearance on his high-profile TV shows, he said: “Don’t think that we are living in a peaceful time now. Actually the media cannot report anything at all. Those of us who do TV shows are so miserable and frustrated, because we cannot do any programs.
As long as something is related to the government, we cannot report about it.”
He said that the regime doesn’t listen to experts, and that Party officials are insufferably arrogant. “If you don’t agree with him, he thinks you are against him,” he said.
Lang’s assessment that the regime is bankrupt was based on five conjectures.”

  28. wallyj, I used to have Favourites, but don’t have a sidebar with that anymore. I don’t know how to restore it, so I just Google what I want to access. That’s real Luddite behaviour, but that’s about where I am re computers.
(Actually, I’m getting more aggressive with my computer and have actually figured out how to solve quite a few glitches—but I have to be motivated. I guess restoring “Favourites” isn’t very high on my priority list—but I DO appreciate your suggestion!)
