Fast Horsemen Of The Apocalypse

Looks like there’s movement from gold into race horses.

Besilu Stables, Ben Leon, the South Fla healthcare exec, buys Royal Delta for $8.5M

The winning bid came at today’s November sale, currently underway at Keeneland;

Keeneland also notched a new record for the sale of a weanling filly. Benjamin Leon’s Besilu Stables paid $2.6 million for a half-sister by Medaglia d’Oro to Horse of the Year Saint Liam and stakes winners Congressionalhonor, Quiet Giant and Dance Quietly from the Evans dispersal. The previous record of $2.4 million was set in November 2006 for a filly by Gone West out of Islington (IRE).

There may be method to this madness. Unlike gold, horses can reproduce. They can serve as alternative transportation – no fueling station required. And they’re edible.

  1. And we could feed them non CWB barley and oats…what a marketing opportunity?

  2. Trouble is you have to clean up after them. Or hire someone to do it. I mucked out stables on a thoroughbred farm to put myself through school and can tell you it isn’t fun. Cleaning out the straw after a foaling was an horrific task. Few things on Earth smell so bad. Don’t even get me started on handling the jumpy, unpredictable maniacs. Gold is much easier to care for. Nice gold. Heavy gold. Shiny gold.

  3. Don’t laugh, if the EPA with the environuts has its way, that may be the most “progressive” mode of transportation.

  4. This is O/T, but I don’t know where else to post it. Today I was walking by the Parliament Building in Regina. I saw a SunNews van… there was someone inside the van (I think they were interviewing Premier Wall). Anyway, I tapped on the window, and asked when we in Sask. would be getting Sun News. November 15 I was told. Great news, n’est-ce pas?

    Also, this is the first time I have submitted a comment. Why was I told I had posted too many in the last little while?

  6. I wonder if these were the same arguments that persuaded former Bishop Remi de Roo of the Diocese of Victoria, BC to make major investments in California race-horses, bankrupting or nearly bankrupting his diocese. The moral bankruptcy of the de Roo episcopacy is a matter for another day.
