The Canadian government created the Communist Wheat Board (CWB) which made it mandatory to sell your wheat to the board in 1943; to help defeat the Nazis, cf War Measures Act.
Rumour has it that the Nazis were defeated, but the CWB isn’t sure, and so made it a crime for farmers in the West to sell wheat to anyone but the CWB to this day.
The CWB is against marketing freedom and Canadian-Ukranian farmers.

Prairie farmers have overwhelmingly voted for the only (also federally) party that wants to get rid of the monopoly of the CWB.
The CBC, NDP, and Libs do not care one bit for prairie farmers, which is why they only fight this in T.O. They have taken the most idiotic position possible ignoring the most important polls … elections.
Do they have a plan or are they just so dysfunctional that they can see an advantage with pitting Toronto elites against prairie farmers?

Actually it is simpler than that…
No government bureaucracy ever dissolves itself after it’s purpose is fulfilled…even if no purpose can be established…like the US EPA and the Firearms Registry.
After a bit their “raison d’etre” becomes simply continuing to exist….and feather-bedding.

I will say this for Rick Mercer: the TV show Made in Canada was spot on and funny as hell, if you’ve ever had to work in or with TV production in this country. Predictably, though, it avoided a lot of the obvious humour in the fact that most TV production here is at the whims of government subsidies and tax breaks.

How do you think the members of the Agrifoods Cooperative feel at the moment? The board received an offer for $7 in cash per share for part of its business (the shares trade at under two bucks) and never told the members. That part of the business is going to lose its license with Yoplait in 2013.
Now someone has finally published the fact that an offer has made, but it’s up to the members to try and organize to get a sale down. You should take a look at their website if you want to see what it takes for farmers to actually get a fair shake from their leadership:

The CWB Monitor email today is about the CWB Alliance a group like the Friends of the CBC. They are claiming that without the CWB, we will all be soon eating wheat from Chernobyl. Desparate beyond belief. They just can’t stand to see Harper dismantling these huge symbols of Fascism. State controlled farmers and wheat, CBC, Gun Control, Equal voting Rights, Respecting the Rights of Citizens vs the wishes of the Elite Central Planners.

The figures cited in this post are disingenuous to begin with. You can’t select based on the cereal producing regions you’re interested and then not show the results of the other 46 constituencies. I would imagine that SaskParty support went up everywhere — the question is whether it went up LESS in the major cereal producing regions.
In fact, the share of SaskParty vote went up by an average of 13% in the non-cereal-producing-regions. It went up by only 10% in the 12 ridings you identified in your post, Kate. So, on average, across the 58 ridings the SaskParty gained 2.93 percentage points fewer in the CPR ridings than they did in non-CPR ridings.
Does this mean that their CWB stance hurt them? Not necessarily. But it’s certainly less disingenuous than the original post.
