  1. The left protecting it’s own…What a surprise.
I’m curious to see how determined Harper’s Conservatives will be in getting to the bottom of all this. With a majority, they should acquire all they want…
For me, it’s more a test to see how serious the ruling Party is on this. If they roll over and say, “The opposition blocked us…nothing we can do” I will be convinced they were just paying lip service to some voters by seemingly going after the Mother Corp.
Defunding of the CBC should start in 2012 at the next budget with a 10% reduction to be followed by 10% increments every year for 10 years…That should allow for them to reajust and privatize or bust.
Right now the test is on Harper and Co. How determined are they?

  2. The CBC denies it has a culture of secrecy yet, paradoxically, there is no report filed in the committee hearing itself. The state broadcaster covers virtually everything that happens at the committee level of parliament… except, of course, when it is under the gun. By not reporting that it is under fire by the information commissioner and at the committee itself, the CBC doesn’t serve to refute the claim of having a culture of secrecy made rather it reinforces it.

  3. Lilley’s point about the NDP wanting national security documents to be *publicized* yet CBC’s info to be kept secret needs to be brought up in that committee.

  4. That committee sure is bringing out a prime example of the hypocrisy of the Liberal Left.Top weasel is Dipper Charlie Angus, what a tool.
As Mark @ 8:09 AM has pointed out, the same pack of fools were demanding the release of documents that would compromise our national security, now they’re fighting to keep secret stuff we as taxpayers have every right to know.

  5. It’s obvious from their obfuscation that cbc is VERY worried about their spending details becoming known to Canadians. There has to be a lot more than just fiscal mismanagement however if the ndp and libs are trying so hard to keep the lid on the cbc. Can’t wait to find out…

  6. “The government is suing itself in a government court.”while more government mouthpieces talk at each other for million$ and million$, blah blah blah. And the money keeps coming. Avalanches of it, tidal waves of money slosh back and forth.
They’re looting the treasury, stop them.
Stop with all the pretend back and forth further waste of money . They are covering up theft. Kick in the front door tomorrow morning at 4:00 AM and seize everything in a raid. Padlock the entrances until we discover where all the money went. This is insane!

  7. Hmmmmm, the Ceeb’s lemmings wouldn’t be shown to be contributing to the NDP or LPC, in the range of thousands of dollars of taxpayers money.
Nah, could never happen, despite the Ceeb’s overt support for those two leftwing parties.

  8. Lilly did bring up in the interview with brad butt conservative mp the taliban doc release vs cbc doc release & all the hypocrisy of that.
I think a Full Audit needs to be called, If the Govt can order the Auditor Gen. to do that, i dont know.
And a along the lines of a Adscam Inquirery be ordered. Because the CBC has become a secret society on The Taxpayers dime & is nothing but a Scam.

  9. The cbc and cwd both have so much in common, secrecy, funded by someone elses cash and always protected by boobs like ca.

  10. Charley Angus and the ndp were willing and still are imo revealed secrets to the taliban their buddies but has a problem or does don’t want CBC that gets taxpayers money reveal the books on their expenditure.
I am not surprise here since CBC supports the Taliban…in fact, the taliban listens to the CBC.

  12. From their performance both the NDP and Liberals proved that they have no interest in the welfare of Canadians, they are only concerned with protecting the interest of special interest groups. It therefore follows that neither one is fit to govern as a national party.

  13. Why is Brian Lilley doing the work for the MP’s?
My MP will be getting a link to Lilley’s story.
I want to hear this pov discussed in the HoC.
BTW…are we getting less coverage of the HoC now that Iggy and Layton are not there?

  14. CBCpravda has a story on now about nuclear subs. entirely made out of their own imagination.

  15. I was listening to what I thought was a CBC Radio broadcast late last night and was delightfully surprised to hear a documentary on the former Soviet Union that didn’t whitewash the brutality or blame the capitalist West for a change. It was especially heartening to hear the truth about the rarely-mentioned persecution of Jews in the Soviet Gulags (many people have been misled to believe that only the Nazis systematically persecuted Jews).
But alas, I was sorely deluded — it turned out to be a BBC broadcast, not CBC. And the Beeb did a bit of Soviet whitewashing itself (although not as bad as CBC usually does) by claiming that the Gulags ended with the death of Stalin in 1953. Absolutely false — Kruschev and subsequent leaders were equally brutal, albeit better at covering it up than Stalin. At least if you believe the testimony of later dissidents such as Solzhenitsyn, et al.
Anyway, so listening to talk Radio this morning they were discussing the CBC and the usual suspects on the Left were defending the CBC and claiming that the CBC is objective and not at all Left-leaning! That’s precisely the root of the problem with the CBC — if they were at least honest about having a Left bias then conservatives would have more respect for them. But because the CBC and their Left apologists lie about their bias, nobody trusts the CBC. And for good reason.

  16. 0f topic for which I apologize. Cannot find a forum to get this across.
Anyone see the number CBC did on Mayor Ford yesterday? Invaded his private residence with the usual lame heavy handed get up – re “This Hour has 22 Minutes”. The gloating that followed when he “blew his top, bordered on the obscene. Tax dollars at work once more.
CTV joyously and unabashed, got in on the act.
What a bunch of nincompoops and crude poseurs we have on these two networks!

  17. Osumashi,
Exactly. We pay for the CBC. And when we legitimately ask for an accounting of what they did with our money, then we also have to pay for their lawyers to obstruct us from getting that information — which they have been doing successfully for a long time. It’s an insane vicious circle, perpetrated by out-of-control CBC bureaucrats.
Why don’t they simply give us an accounting like every other Government bureaucracy in the entire country does? It stinks to high heaven.

The reason CBC gives is that if they account for their spending it will affect their “artistic creativity”.
Not a good reason, but it’s the one they’re sticking to.

  19. ricardo @ 4:28, you are right in saying the Gulags did not end in 1953. Many of the labour camps were still there, at least until 1982, although they were not quite as brutal. In 1982 one of my uncles traveled to the village where my grandfather had come from and the place of his birth and learned that recently a woman had been sentenced to a term in a labour camp for complaining while in a lineup at the only store in the village by wondering out loud how long they would have to do this (waiting in lineups). Some party hack had reported her.

  20. Ricardo, let’s Occupy the CBC.
For far too long, Canadians have been LAZY with any number of government services. Now that the belts are tight and the pig crap has become too unbearable, it’s time to see some accountability.
