I still don’t understand why the Conservatives are not making a move to axe the CBC. They are killing the long gun registry, etc., but they are leaving the *big problem* untouched.
The CBC is a colossal waste of taxpayer dollars, and every last person that works there is 100% anti-Conservative, anti-family, anti-tradition, anti-American, and so forth. CBC is the definition of political correctness. Get rid of the organization and Canada will be a better place.

Forcing them to get back to basics would clip their wings without a huge outcry — maybe a strategy to get them out of news and political commentary in favour of cultural programming might work. In the area of news reporting, they are in direct conflict with private Canadian broadcasters, so it is not needed. Cultural stuff that nobody will watch is a better fit for them.
CBC news — another point worth noting is that the CBC news is probably one of their more expensive production areas — all that travel around the globe. I think that’s where they are trying to keep their expenditures secret. The question is, do they do a better job of this than the private sector? Would it not be better if the dollars for this were spent on local productions — giving a boost to the local production industry?
It’s now or never time to cut off spending on the CBC. The majority gov’t makes this possible. We don’t need the CBC, with all the avenues for communication available. Check the Occupy protests’ global revolution site to see how quickly and easily information is passed.

CBC is a failing govt structure and without govt bailouts would they survive on advertising revenues alone? Iam very doubtfull. They are by no means in comparision to ctv, global, city or now sun And by no means receive the same amount of viewership.
And they only have the revenues needed to compete in Canada thanks to the generosity of the govt/taxpayers & a broadcasting fund that they dont even contribute to. I know little of Ford and even less of Ms. Walsh but I can see his reaction as a valid one. The CBC employed thug tactics here. It was not funny and wouldn’t be no matter who the victim was. There is a rule- leave the family alone. Most responsible media organizations follow, gosh even the mafia follow it- but not the CBC in the hunt for what is really a stale joke. I feel very sorry for Mr. Ford’s daughter who will view her early morning rides with her father with trepidation.

I concur with a previous comment about CBC doing itself in.
They keep dragging the access to information challenge and by doing so draw the wrong kind of attention.
When the next budget is tabled I would hope that it includes a measure that all crown corporations that refuse to account for their spending would have their funding reduced by the amount they refuse to account for.
I think we are expecting a measure of decency from people who clearly have none.
two notable observations:
1. there is no security protocol for the mayor of Canada’s largest city when going to his vehicle first thing in the morning, especially with an unidentified suv nearby? Read terrorist threat soon to come if he’s that easy to approach.
2. running away from a screaming lady doesn’t show leadership. he should have warned them to leave, or even better said you got 2 seconds to leave or my body guards and OPP will have you on spread eagle on the ground.
Remember Chretien and the choke hold on a pie thrower? that made me respect the man as much as I didn’t like him, i respected he stood ground. Sure the polar bear statue and such at his house was another item, but that is my image of Mr. C.
Mr. Ford on the other hand is scared by a boisterous boobed lady doesn’t fair well as someone who can handle stress. His interview afterwards looks like a guy who is apologizing for his kids, not someone who would risk life to protect them. He looks like he’s hiding behind his kids if anything.

John, rule one of media ambushes is don’t give them any footage. You turn, you go back inside, you call the cops. Anything you say or do is FREE TV GOLD for your enemies.

Being accosted in your driveway is wrong, with children present is completely unacceptable. I actually admire his restraint. I’m not strong or violent, don’t own guns. But when my kids are involved then the gloves are off. I would literally defend them to the death and Lord help anyone who tries to stand between us.

We don’t have all the facts, so to state he is being attacked by a crazy is alluring to the fact of my point again, how can this take place if it were even so.
secondly, he MAY know who mary walsh is, and at the same time should know he is the mayor, and she is a peon.
thirdly if indeed his daughter was there, it looks like either she was not in a threatening situation, or he got in the car before her.

Say I’m all wrong, but this smacks of lack of discipline and backbone. I wish Mr. Ford the best and hope he rights Toronto’s ship, but if anything this proves my points – he is a vulnerable man, physically and looks like emotionally as well.

As for the CBC, I wouldn’t even waste the time with the cops on them. Phone Sun TV and tell them to motor down and do an interview with Ms. Walsh.

Ms. Walsh’s tactics lacking in professional judgement and ask them move on – don’t drag the kids into it, or use them as a sympathy lever.
If Mr. Ford stated that in his driveway, or at the interview, I’d believe in his leadership more, heck even if he manhandled Walsh (grabbed her arm and escorted her off his property) would be better optics than the mornful interview he gave.
Look at his eyes, facial and body language during the interview – they aren’t one of a leader making a point, which makes me worried a bit he won’t last long, hope I”m wrong.
The fact he tried to make light of reporters with mics and camera “not any of you guys” at 1:52 shows he is gun shy of the media.
Granted it is easy I know for me to sit here and type my thoughts without a camera or reporter hounding me, and to disclose I have been nervous when I was in front of a camera, but that was one time vs this man has been in the public eye for how long and is the mayor if we haven’t forgotten.
I would dare say within the first minute one could access this wasn’t a threat but a spoof of some sort, and thereby take control of it.
Again his lack of leadership in taking control of the situation might come back to haunt him.

-Ford’s kid is -right- there so he has to cover her.
-Ford ain’t no kung fu fighter.
-CBC and the other news creatures -never- do things like this, so he’s never seen anything like it before and has to assume its dangerous.
-Ford has made a conscious decision not to have overt security at his home in the form of police on the driveway, and this appears to have been a mistake.
-The mayor of Toronto can’t be assaulted and harassed on his own property any more than I can. We have laws about stuff like that, and Walsh broke all of them.
Getting out of camera range and calling the cops, only viable tactic given all the above. Survivors are winners. Ford survives, lives to fight another day, and Mary Walsh/CBC come off the losers in this engagement.
