With regard to the troop pullout from Iraq: Has anyone noticed that the end of this year is only ten weeks away?

When I first heard “end of the year” I was pretty surprised. I just figured that he knew what he was talking about. After all he’s the president.

The Iraq gov’t refused to extend the immunity provision to US soldiers. That provision means that if a US soldier is involved in a car accident, for example, the case is dealt goes to a military tribunal rather than falls under the Iraq justice system.
It’s pretty easy to find the facts.

There is no capacity to move that many personel and equipment unless they have been preparing for a Normandy type manouver since 2008, that or the plan is similar to the one the British used when they quit Kabul many decades ago.
Here’s a suggestion, how about the commander in chief be the last one to quit the battle field?

There’s nothing like announcing your retreat/withdrawal clearly, so all your enemies know when and how you are leaving, giving your troops anything but security for the remainder of their time, and worse, the invasion can commence shortly thereafter. Vietnam anybody?

A slow, orderly, under the radar withdrawal is the correct strategy. But, thanks to TOTUS, he’s never been in the military, and is completely out of his element (again!)

We should turn that whole damned country into a parking lot before we pull out. That is the only way there will be peace. Nothing has changed between the Shihite, the Suuni and the Kurds. They hate each other and without US intervention will be at each others throats within weeks of having the freedom to do so. It will be kind of like leaving home. Once we go we can never really go back. Iran will love it. They have waited patiently for this. Taking Sadam out (although it felt good) will prove to be a disaster. Watch for things to unravel in a hurry. We live in interesting times.
40 thousand troops in 10 weeks, works out to roughly 500 per day 7 days a week, plus equipment. Anyone nervous about having that many troops assembled into one marshalling area at once. Does the term “fish in a barrel” ring a bell?
they’ll be leaving tons and tons of equipment behind, of course, including M1 tanks and I wouldn’t be surprised if helicopters and aircraft remain behind….all pointed towards Israel before long…as is ‘bama’s plan

BENGHAZI, Libya Oct 23 (Reuters) – Libya’s National Transitional Council leader Mustafa Abdel Jalil kneeled in prayer after taking the stand in a celebration of liberation on Sunday after 42 years of one-man rule by Muammar Gaddafi and promised to uphold Islamic law.
“We as a Muslim nation have taken Islamic sharia as the source of legislation, therefore any law that contradicts the principles of Islam is legally nullified,” he said.
Jalil thanked the Arab League, the United Nations, and the European Union for supporting the uprising which ended with Gaddafi’s death on Thursday.
“All the martyrs, the civilians and the army had waited for this moment. But now they are in the best of places … eternal heaven,” he said, shaking hands with supporters.
“The revolution began as a peaceful one. But it was faced with violence,” he told tens of thousands of Libyans gathered in the eastern city of Benghazi, where fighting against Gaddafi erupted in February.
