  1. Comment at the Captain’s site points out many of these starts are -apartments-. Market isn’t buying, its renting.
Its going to take a long freakin’ time to work through all the vacant and foreclosed housing in the USA. Prices are still falling in Phoenix area, you can get a nice three bedroom with a pool in a decent neighborhood for under $150k these days. Won’t be long before its under $100k.
Houses in crappy neighborhoods are being virtually given away. In some cases they will pay you to move in, just to keep the copper thieves out.
Grab your vacation home any time in the next five years or so, I’d say. Unless the Republicans cut taxes massively next year and basically end the tax-and-spend theory of government (not holding my breath), the bottom won’t be for a while.

  2. Try to explain the significance of Kate’s post to a liberal mind. The kind who thinks history starts anew every morning with Canada AM. Their critical thinking is so shallow it usually takes a dozen email back-and-forths to get them to realize their beloved media can and does put out misleading headlines.
More back and forths and then they may begin to understand how the (in this case)graph puts things into perspective. And how misleading headlines can be used to put politicians in a good or bad light, whichever fits the media’s agenda.
In many cases these same liberal minded people are quite conservative in their everyday life. But the problem is every evening they go through more indoctrination while watching the “news”. I guess they think critical thinking is hard – just like math. I always thought the term ‘useful idiots’ was a little too strong,.. maybe not.
