Why this blog?
Until this moment I have been forced to listen while media and politicians alike have told me "what Canadians think". In all that time they never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

Ha! Good one. BTW did you happen to catch Bob’s press scrum on the Ceeb? He was positively apoplectic at the mention of merger. Nope, Powercorp placeholder Bob isn’t interested.
Kate, you’re one of a kind. Love it!
I come here first thing every morning.
And, it turned out nice again!
Kate, exactly and it is funny. Looks good on all of them.
Took me a while to figure it out. So you’re saying the NDP was hijacked by sovereignists first (ie that’s what “they were there” means I guess).
I guess in both cases, sovereignists and Liberals, their brand has been trashed, so they’re both looking for a fresh new brand to appropriate for their own purposes. With Layton gone, that should be an easier prospect. The NDP will be anything and everything to anyone and everyone.
You hit the nail on the head — it’s the fundamental problem with Liberals everywhere: they never ask permission — everything is based on presumption.
It’s the same reason why some Liberal dupes (not unlike the NDP) think they can “negotiate” with Islamists, for example. Did Liberals ever ask the Taliban themselves if they were interested in “negotiating” instead of absolute control?, or if the Taliban wanted “peace” instead of Jihad?, or if the Taliban wanted “political pluralism” instead of theocracy? No. Liberals simply assume that the Taliban (and Quebec Separatists for that matter) would want those things, because that’s what Liberals would want. (Liberals also presume the same thing about criminals — that all criminals want to be reformed and live “clean lives” without even asking them. Liberals seem to ignore the existence of criminal sociopaths).
The self-deluded “multicultural” Liberals are actually quite ethnocentric — whether it is dealing with French Separatists at home, or Islamists abroad. What Liberals don’t realize is that “cultural relativism” isn’t just about understanding the positive traits of another political culture relative to one’s own, but it’s also about realistically understanding its negative traits relative to one’s own, especially if it can threaten the very foundations of a free democracy.
“Projecting” one’s thinking onto others is a symptom of a mental illness in the DSM under the heading of “factitious disorders”, and I wonder if Liberals realize that they manifest that symptom — en masse — when they presume that everyone in the world obviously must think the way that they do.
Just a few weeks ago at the G&M, Libs and Dips were at each other’s throats arguing about Jack and if he’d return to the HofC.
They hate each other as much as they hate us!
A merger cannot happen I think for one simple reason: respect. Besides (I suspect) the “Blue Liberals”, there’s not enough respect between Progressive Liberals and Dippers that they could reasonable negotiate ANY type of compromise. It’s not in their DNA.
As I said, one must look back just a few weeks to see the incivility toward each other (Libs and Dips) to recognize that these folks CANNOT share the same tent.
Furthermore, in the past I commented many times that it was “pure fallacy” spewed by the leaders of the Opposition parties that these parties could coexist in the first place. If Liberals and Dippers were in simpatico, there’d not be an NDP in the first place! No?
How would the NDP might feel about a merger?
I was thinking that the NDP, being on top right now, probably don’t particularly want to open their ranks to the Liberal$. They know them pretty well and they might be thinking “snake in the grass.”
They’d also have to deal with former Ontario NDP leader, Bob Rae, something I don’t think they want to contemplate. Rae’s a pretty power-hungry animal (‘reason he defected to the Liberal$ in the first place) and I imagine they’re still pretty sore at him for crossing the floor.
I hope they merge like the Titanic and the iceberg.
Its not a merger of the parties that is the bone of contention. What has the partisans in both parties apoplectic is the thought of going into a merger as the junior partner.

I just can’t help thinking this fiasco was actually their plan…………….
According to Mia Rabson @ Wpg Free Press, that bloviating fool Pat Martin is threatening to run for leader of the Dips if no one else in the party will look at merging….yeah, that’ll do wonders for the ndp! That moron will sink them faster than a brick!
“Harper must be in political heaven.”
Heh heh, yes.
With luck, the “Post-Jack Knee-Dippers” and the “Liberal Party Holocaust Survivors” will exhaust themselves into sublime irrelevance through their petty infighting, while our dear Dominion sails gracefully onwards, oblivious to them both.
