Toronto’s CN Tower will give Jack Layton a glowing orange tribute on Saturday night.
The iconic building will be lit in the colour symbolic of Layton and his NDP to commemorate the passing of the federal leader and former Toronto city councillor, officials said Wednesday.
An online campaign to light the tower in honour of Layton had been rallying people to make the request.
The Facebook group, Let’s Get the CN Tower orange on Saturday night to Remember Jack Layton, had more than 5,000 members by the time the decision was announced.
I stress that I don’t normally get involved in obscenely partisan memorial gestures. But these are exceptional circumstances.

(cradling head in hands)
Why on God’s green earth is this going on?
In honour of his being caught in a,
no, I won’t say it.
You can say it.
“Community clinic”.
And what is to be put on this plaque?
From now on all Jack-o-lanterns will be renamed Jack-O-Layterns in honor of the great “polititian” for life, and nothing else. I think the MSM has caused more puking this week than Maple Leaf Meats could ever have. This pompous little ass went far to soon, and I feel for his family, but he cared not a tomcats dick for average Canadians, only union hacks and miscreants, these are the NDPEERS of Canada. Excuse me while I puke after watching the evening news.
CN Tower?
“Putting aside conventionalities,”.

There is a comment on the CBC website which says that Layton’s death is “Canada’s 9/11”. I kid you not…..truly, TRULY, unbelievable.
so long Jack, enjoy life up in that big massage parlor in the sky….
This is a kind of phallic thingy, what?
Jack Layton must be remembered as the politician and political leader who was prepared to back a postal strike for weeks if not months on Canada during a tough economic recovery. It spoke volumes of whether he had Canada’s or a union interests at heart and who he was prepared to help prosper.Thank God saner heads prevailed and we had leadership in the government of Canada.
Jack Layton’s hollow promise to bring decorum to the House of Commons, by elevating parameters of debate in the house, and bringinging professionalism to the House, is exposed by the NDP party stance in the selection of the new Speaker for the House, whose position should reflect impartiality and competence, to gain respect of members and do an effective job. For the NDP, for all intents and purposes to whip their caucus, to support one member of the NDP caucus for the position to gain advantage in securing the job, as if Ms. Savoie was God’s gift to the House of Commons as speaker, speaks volumes that it is politics as usual with Jack Layton and the NDP and impartiality and restoring decorum to the House takes a back seat to NDP ambitions at any cost.
Why even bother having a funeral? The way the left is talking about Taliban Jack, I fully expect him to rise on the third day.
How phallic for Mr. Rub & Tug.
We know carbon credits will be purchased and the bill sent to his estate.
Soooo…has anybody considered the nuanced optics of lighting the CN Tower up like a giant orange phallic symbol in Jack’s honor.?.
Reminds me of a filthy doctor joke about a patient who had a passion for Hawkins Cheesies and porn…
Look like a big, orange,……finger.
Great comments, folks. Like several here, I expect to see Jack again, but I don’t have enough biblical knowledge to remember which day this will happen? Presumably before Saturday, but there would be more votes from it if he rises during the service with live coverage. Oh, sorry, that’s some kind of nasty reference, isn’t it?
Can’t think of who said it, but the left has nothing to cling to in their relativistic world, and they have to “believe in” their leaders.
I had to do it.
Citizen Wilson—thanks for the GR8 laugh! And a relation of the Lewises—God help us all when Stephen dies!—is apparently going to sing a song called “Rise Up”—maybe Iggy can dance along—at the funeral. Yikes!
Now they’re—e.g., that idiot, Joe Clark—talking of, posthumously making Jack “The Right Honourable”, an honorific used for only the most exalted of Canadians. Silly me, I forget that Jack is most exalted . . .
This is getting truly CRAZY!
Blatchford needs to write another column. This is getting truly obscene.
Woman sitting next to me on the train worked for Dianne Feinstein Elementary School.
Imagine that, a school named after a living, sitting politician – free advertising.
BTW, the senator gave the school a $5000 donation for some event. That’s the least she could do given she’s filthy rich via her husband.
This endless worshipping of Layton is getting creepy. I know we have already been censored in a previous posting from saying anything negative about Layton, so I’ll just point to these two links:

I guess someone should tell Old Joe that he means ‘The Left Honourable’
I can not forgive Jack Layton for insulting my intelligence and treating me as a turnip.
Olivia Chow was quick to release a written statement, that husband Jack Layton indeed did attend a “registered massage clinic” and she was well aware of it and he “needed a massage” late in the evening.
Jack Layton, later at a rally in Burnaby, was quick to point out and clarify Olivia’s comment, that in fact it was a “community clinic” (Velvet Touch -good name) where he obtained his services. In trying to protect his political career, and in tune with the NDP philosophy, he felt it very important to stress it was a “community clinic” not to be confused with a private clinic.
It was essential in the middle of this election, to inform Canadians, in order to solicit their support, he wouldn’t be caught dead at a private clinic, a for profit health care facility, where illegal, underage, Asian sex workers, would be employed by rip off artists, in the Canadian health care field – it would have to be a community clinic he patronizes – there should be no confusion.
Why and how could the Toronto city police confuse a community clinic with a bawdy house?
and here I had heard that a daily tug would lessen the chance of prostate cancer.
please Toronto. no big white spot lights at the top on the night of E Jack U Layton
luv it Blazing Cat Fur luv it.
And to think this guy hid his illness and could have very well become Prime Minister.
Then we would have ended up with a separtist as a friggin Prime Minister. Now how scary is that?
Once this kumbaya is over for him, I really hope this issue is brought to the fore. We shouldn’t be letting seriously ill people run for PMO (in MHO).
“He’s claiming he got a legitimate massage, but the issue here is it’s clear it was a rub and tug and most people in society would know that when they go in” – Mammoliti.
Of course it was clear. As well, notice how no one in the consensus media (unless someone can prove me wrong) went to the location in the dying days of the election to file a report. Odd that with CBC and CTV (CP24) having studios just blocks away, no reporter was ever sent to provide context… it’s like sending a reporter out to cover a murder without sending him/her to the scene of the crime.
The media knew full well what impression would’ve been left with Canadians if we saw where this rub and tug had actually run from… and at that point in the election, they were trying desperately to stop a Harper majority.
Now, had the story been PMSH and a rub and tug, no doubt the reporters of each network would be fighting each other to be the one to report from its location.
At least Jack believed in something and acted on it. RIP
I much prefer Jack! to Libby ‘small eyes, thin lip, smooth philtrum’ Davies speaking in the house of commons.
I just hope somebody warned the devil to keep his hand on his wallet!!!
Correction “NEVER went to the location.”
And what is to be put on this plaque?

VENI, VIDERUNT, VICIMUS
I came, they saw, (but) we conquered.
ex-VanIslander, that was funny.
Jack is off. However, Olivia looked a rather stunning little thing in her black mourning mini-skirt. (was typing something else but aborted…)
What a classy place this is…
Why has no one yet suggested renaming a B.C. mountain “Mount Jack Layton”?
Maybe we could rename “Mt. Trudeau” after Jack.
btw, he IS still dead, isn’t he?
Well, we all want to be of the same class here Iby. That’s the way to enlightenment and happiness.
I had to do it too.

lberia – there’s a comment thread over at msnbc that’s falling all over themselves in wishing Dick Cheney dead. I suggest you trot on over. You’ll be more comfortable there.
Has the Toronto Sun website melted down or something? I am unable to access it at all for a while now.
Let’s look at it this way.
It was entirely predictable that the left leaning media would go over the edge with this.
Just turn off the tv for the next few days and let them have their spectacle.
It really should make no difference to us.
It’s too bad that he died.
People do.
His coalition speech to the prime minister at the signing.
That was Jack Layton.
In my mind nothing will ever change that.
Just let them put him in the ground first and allow a little time to pass.
He wasn’t Stalin.
We have years later on to debate his legacy.
Maybe it’s a blessing that Jack won’t be around to prop up all those new MPs.
Many people in different places bring up this idea “he did what he believed in”.
What does that mean?
There were and are thousands of people doing things they believed or believe in. As you can imagine there were those that are responsible for thousands and millions of deaths.
Would that cleanse their slate because they believed in what they did?
It would seem that you can do anything, any kind of mayhem in so far as you believe in it.
Sound something like socialists, fascists, national socialists and communist would say and be wholly satisfied with themselves.
Light up the CN tower, on Saturday?
I wish to honor HIM as well; maybe shove a carrot up my a$$.
And another thing.
What is it exactly that the currently deceased leader of Canadian socialists accomplished, that was of significance.
It is puzzling and actually an insult to many (I know that’s a big concept, though anyway) people that Harper is throwing a state funeral for this man.
*
just can’t believe the dippers are gonna pass up a
sure-fire memorial/fund-raising opportunity.
*
There is one big difference between Layton and Cheney: Cheney is directly responsible for, among other things, an illegal war and torture of civilians; Layton got a massage.
old duffer at 10:54 PM and lookout at 10:29 PM, Joe Who?
Lev at 2:03 AM: …Harper is throwing a state funeral for this man.
=========
Think of it as a “thank God and Greyhound” sort of shindig.
eastern paul at 1:57 AM, damn@d good thing I didn’t have a mouthful of coffee. I’ll still laughing.
Come to think of it, there is something to celebrate. Jack Laytoon destroyed both the Liberals and the Bloc, then he bowed out himself. Maybe we can all think of that while we watch the CN Tower turn a sickly orange.
Bernie at 1:33 AM: “Maybe it’s a blessing that Jack won’t be around to prop up all those new MPs.”
Pow! (In the face of Gilles Duceppe) Zap! (Iggy popped.) Kaboom!(NDP caucus in disarray) Another accomplishment!! I’m beginning to warm to the idea of a state funeral for the guy. He left a great legacy behind.
