Ed Driscoll interviews Mark Steyn;
Mark discusses what H.G. Wells’ Victorian-era Time Traveler would think about life amongst the “Eloi” of the 21st century. He offers his take on Bloomberg.com’s presumably unintentionally hilarious headline yesterday, “Geithner Says European Nations Must Get ‘Fiscal House’ in Order.” And he’ll answer the question that’s been on Thomas Friedman’s mind in recent weeks — “Can Greeks Become Germans?”
All this and much more of the most fun you’ll have contemplating the Spenglerian collapse of a nation near you. (And watch this space for a transcript of the interview, hopefully online tomorrow.)

Thanks Kate!!!
It seems the “Battle of Britain” is underway…
3rd straight night of rioting, looting, arson….
I wish to announce my New Principle of Economic Collapse:
Nations go bankrupt in inverse proportion to their retirement age.

Ahhhh ….. Spengler ….. what once was ridiculed is now seen as a prophetic vision……………
HG Wells was an idealistic Fabian socialist. He was a pacifist until WWI. He believed in eugenics to strengthen the human race. Of Stalin he said, “I have never met a man more fair, candid, and honest.”
He stated that the separation between the Eloi and the Morlocks resulted from the mere social difference between capitalists and labor.
Hayek even mentions Wells with some contempt in the Road to Serfdom.
