With the recent federal election now a distant memory, it’s time for our State Broadcaster to speculate on the results of the October 19, 2015 election:
“The majority government won by Prime Minister Stephen Harper on Monday could be his one and only, according to a focus group of Canadian voters. A collection of factors allowed for the Conservatives to decisively win 167 seats in the spring election…..Those factors may never occur again at the same time to produce the conditions that proved to be the winning one for Harper…”
Is that any way to treat your new boss? Fire. Them. All.
I guess hope springs eternal for the CBC folk.
Unfortunately for them the Liberal party is so far in the hole financially that comparisons to their recovery from previous beat-downs may not apply this time.

Kate’s occasional preface for a story which never needed to be written or read: “the world contains too many journalists” (or something along those lines) was never more apt than applied against today’s G&M and others. There were 3 stories based on the same focus group report, and now I see that it’s spilling over into other media. What’s a focus group anyway? Is is a haven for disgraced pollsters?
Precisely the opposite is true – of course. The lpc will be hanging on by a thread financially. And it seems pretty clear that the party is very divided on merging with the ndp. And the ndp will likely lurch from one screw-up to the next – becoming more exposed as uber-left and unfit to be in power – hardly a winning dancing party for the lpc. If the CPC practices what it preached – peace order and good government for the next four years they could wind up with an even bigger mandate.
And as is already becoming apparent we are beginning to see a much more relaxed stephen Harper – freed from the live hand grenade atmosphere of tension that a minority parliament had put him in for five years.
And now he gets to lead his party in implementing its policies on its timetable.
Should be an enjoyable four years with the option for four more.
And that focus group could be one of the last and almost final focus groups employed by the State Broadcaster prior to their demise/dismantling/destruction. I want to see these creeps (to quote Mr. Molevski) finally have to go out and sell themselves on the market. I couldn’t care less what Mr. Moore has promised!

Harper has said he will cut out the $ per vote for all the parties. This will make it REALLY tough for the libs and Ndp to raise money, especially the Libs.The cons have more money than they know what to do with. Perhaps Harper will also reduce the subsidies to the CBC. Let them raise their own dough just like the politicals.

what they should do with the funding is split it up between each national broadcaster, or simply use it to fund Canadian shows regardless of who’s making them. It’s unfair to fund one broadcaster and that is the key if you want to defund the CBC. Have the funding even out in steps over 5 or so years and after that you could have a rational debate over whether that kind of funding is useful in the first place without people saying you’re trying to kill the CBC b/c they’re liberal.

I’d be curious who was in these “focus groups” and my guess is that they were probably from large cities and didn’t include people who work most of the time and don’t have time for such activities.
Once Alberta and BC get new ridings established, it will be much easier for the Conservatives to win a majority government without any concern about what Quebec moonbats are up to. I don’t think this concept has sunk in with the MSM yet.
The one thing that could really damage PMSH in BC is if he decides to have increased criminal penalties for cannabis possession and cultivation. The use of cannabis is widespread in BC and it is essentially legal in many areas of the province. It also is also the primary cash crop in BC and probably the only thing keeping the BC economy afloat. OTOH, if the Conservatives drive up the price of pot, then it will become even more profitable for growers and make the BC government even more corrupt than it is now. While the latter might be good economically for BC, it is going to make Conservative support drop dramatically as I know of a lot of rednecks who use cannabis medicinally (great for osteoarthritis pain I’m told).

Amazingly enough, the CBC owned Bold channel is actually the closest thing to what the CBC should be than the main network – it’s got amateur sports with a Canadian focus, all Canadian programming from across the country that displays all aspects of our culture. At least, that’s what Wikipedia says. Perhaps they should shut down all the main affiliates, close down the news operation and retool to the Bold format for the main. I bet that it would operate a heck of a lot cheaper than it currently does.
Then they can sell their must-carry license to Sun News.

I don’t remember talk about a collection of factors that may never again occur being the reason the Liberal$ decisively won their majority governments in the 1990s. Even though I pointed out to my husband back then that the Liberal$ won only because they came up the middle of the other parties, I wasn’t hearing that on the CBC — just a lot of back slapping and congratulations, M. When left libbers throw at you that PM Harper won only 40% of the vote, which means that 60% voted against him, it might be a good idea to point out that 69 percent voted against the NDP and 81 percent voted against the Liberals.

IMHO, what’s revealed here is the core problem with any/all state run broadcasters. The culture is changing, and they aren’t.
A private company has to hustle to stay on the wave of their customer’s requirements. If they don’t, they go broke. Example of good surfers, Rush Limbaugh and FOX News. Those guys are making big money because they are hanging ten in the curl, baby.

They may not, but just the fact that the Conservatives have a majority will motivate the CBC to watch their P’s and Q’s — maybe. However, Harper was right that Canadian’s don’t like surprises. Unfortunately, at this juncture the CBC is still a sacred cow. I am not saying don’t reduce the funding or change the mandate, but timing has to be right, and right now too many Canadians are watching for just that type of draconian move. Perhaps a year or two of Sun and CBC’s hold on the Canadian consciousness will begin to wane. Right now, even though they do not have that much audience share, CBC remains a symbol of “Canadianness” — so Harper has to move cautiously.

Harper has spent the last five years navigating his way through shark infested political waters.
He has made the beach head now and its only going to get easier as he and his party gain the momentum necessary to infiltrate the headland.

Facts: The New West has replaced Quebec in the electoral game. Seats in the New West will now exceed all the seats in Quebec and Atlantic Canada. The bigger story that the CBC and others of that ilk, the milk fed veal calves of the Leftwing Stooge Media has missed is that the Conservative Revolution started 20 years or so ago by Parson Manning with Reform is now giving birth. The New West has the Juice. The Old East is on life support and welfare handouts from the New West. Harper controls the Senate, He has a comfortable majority in the Commons, He will be appointing 2-3 SCOC Judges in the next 5 years. He will be appointing many other Judges in the Provinces, many Provincial Supreme Court Judges, which make up the pool for future SCOC Judges. He will be quickly ending the flow of $2/vote voters TAX Funds. Which will decimate the Liberals, the Bloc and the Greens. They will now have to kiss voters asses for a Toonie. He will be expanding the base in Conservative Territory with another 30-35 seats. The NDP is not the story here. Reform and its offspring Harper and the CPC is the story. Quebec has fouled their nest by voting NDP. English Canada west of Toronto now no longer needs Quebec or Atlantic Canada to control the country electorally. We still have to listen, but now we can listen as they dance to our tune. They can Fart and Tapdance as we ponder who to fund. And who to cut.
