Delacourt argues that someone who has done nothing, knows nothing, and has shown no commitment to anything, is prime MP material.
I admire Delacourt’s chutzpah. I would have been too embarrassed to make an argument like that.

… yep, teenagers make good decisions … hahahahhaha. I was a teen once – now that I’m over 40, I know how stupid I really was back then. Anyone who suggests that teens running a country is a good idea is an idiot.
So, what constitutes “…appropriate backgrounds for the life of a parliamentarian” anyway? (I didn’t read the article at the link.) The circus? (Performer or menagerie?) Lobotomy? Is ever having a productive job disqualifying? Help me out here.

In all fairness, we’re willing to send 18 year old kids to fight and die on behalf of our democracy. I see no reason that age, in and of itself, should play a part in their willingness to represent constituents within our democratic system.

I grew up in the socialist state of SK, as it was, 21 years ago… I realized, as an 18 year old kid, that it was a dead-end and moved to Alberta in search of a better life. My age didn’t determine my world outlook, my perception did. I realized that the “union mantra” wasn’t the way to go and I bailed… My own son, at 14, completely decimates his facebook friends and twitter mates in debates because his world view has been shaped in the mold of liberty and freedom. Put him up against “Hand-Job-Jack-Layton” and he’d kick Layton’s tail…
Age, in and of it’s self is irrelevant… It’s the content of the character that matters…
I don’t have a tv and never read the Star. I did however watch Ms Delacourt on Don Martin’s CTV show. Not much there, and that includes Martin.

I wonder if any of you remember when the Reform first went to parliament and the pundits raised a lot of questions as to how the “ideologues” would handle the nature of parliament. I am sure if these were 19 year old CPC MPs Delacourt would be having a field day.
Its not the age that matters to me, though I like my MPs to at least have some life and work experience. Its the fact that these guys didn’t campaign or have to prove themselves.
Quebec sent a litter of whelps to parliament. Let them enjoy cleaning up the puppy shit.
I’m really having a hard time seeing how any of the new NDP MPs could possibly be any more annoying than Sheila Copps, Libby Davies, or Thomas Mulcair. Or brainless, for that matter.

In all fairness I listened to an interview of Canada’s youngest MP and he was very eloquent and made some good comments. Time will tell how that works out. Some of these pylons might turn out to be ok at the job. Most will not be. That’s the bottom line here. Frankly I look forward to seeing this go down. I like watching train wrecks what can I say.
The MSM should request interviews with these new MPs. Ask them about policies re debt reduction and diplomacy.
I cannot see how they can possibly be worse than Trudeau’s liberal lackeys or Mulroney’s conservative cronies – yesmen to the core. In parliament only the number of sheep counts, and Jack has the second largest number, as long as they vote the way they are told it doesn’t matter, who or what they are.

As much as I think the NDP line-up is largely useless, I don’t doubt that their candidates are just as entitled to try to become MPs as anyone else – Harvard professors included.
They met the single qualification required by our parliamentary system: they were eligible Canadian voters who were successfully elected.
Perusing the Canada Elections Act, I find absolutely no mention at all that a candidate for MP must be bilingual, wealthy, a lawyer, come from the Big TO, hold a Ph.D., have “experience” or be a good buddy of Jean Chrétien.

An eighteen year old doesn’t have a developed character. Like someone else said, we don’t have eighteen year old Generals for a reason. And politicians have control of our Generals.

On the same general topic, Saskatchewan is an eighteen year old in growth. Obviously an eighteen year old will demonstrate a greater rate of growth getting to where the mature already are.

If an individual shows commitment and responsibility then there is merit for their positions wither I agree with them or not.
As this is an act similar to that of a job interview, would you consider someone who is applying for a senor management position if they have no background experience, doesn’t know what your vision or mission is and can’t make the interview because they are on holidays?
I know many that are 50 going on 12 and few that are 16 going 60. These young individuals are rare and treasures to mentor but never assume that ignorance is the refreshing light.

I don’t know. Jack’s not looking well. I say, with some sincerity, I hope that all of these rookies don’t damage his health. I hate his politics but I would feel badly if the stress of his Quebec caucus compromised his physical well-being.

So, among other difficulties, many of these completely unqualified young people, who now hold an important position of public trust, for which they’ll be paid $157 000/year by the Canadian taxpayer: i) couldn’t be bothered to campaign, ii) don’t know anything about their constituency, iii) don’t have a clue about what their new job entails, iv) were persuaded to sign on just so the NDP could collect the $2/vote, and/or v) don’t even speak the language of the citizens they now represent.
So, what does this wholesale abdication of these public servants’ most basic responsibilities say about the content of these MPs’ characters (not to mention that of the NDP, period)?

He should also be asked how many losing NDP candidates worked for him? Then he should tell us why he had his young workers on the ballot?
If one of these young folks can’t handle the pressure,media vigilance,and the scorn that comes with the job and takes an early dirt nap,will Tom Mulcair take any responsibility?
