  1. The Senate Indian Affairs Committee has a point. Guantanimo would have been a more appropriate code name as would have Waterboardshorts or Madrassa.

  2. Next up: General George Casey demanding an enquiry into why the assault team did not meet its diversity quota of muslims.

  3. They tried this crap with the Atlanta Braves. Instead of the crowd doing the wave, they did the ‘tomahawk chop’. If it drives the grievance industry crazy, I’m in favor of it.

  4. Here in the US several media orgs are now questioning why Osama was shot since he wasn’t armed… its already started.

  5. Judas on a Vespa with Cheese and Peppers!
The top staffer for the Senate Indian Affairs Committee needs to get a real job.

  6. Romeo Echo Tango Alpha Romeo Delta.
Even Quebec never bitched about the usurpation of “their” word, sheesh.

  7. Eskimo @ 10:57:
Just the sort of racist crack we’d expect from a guy named ‘Eskimo’. ;~)

  8. A friend of mine at Reuters brought this up the other day so it’s probably a meme on the dinner party circuit now.
The thing is ‘Geronimo’ is not an Indian name. It’s Italian and was the Mexican nickname for the guy, so you have to wonder why the Senate is concerned about an Italian nickname coined by Mexicans for a Native who lived over a century ago.
Is it a slow work day or something?

  9. The OBL hit proves Durbin’s and Kerry’s charges that US soldiers terrorize women and children, in the middle of the night. Oh the humanity!

  10. Apparently the code name for Saddam was ‘Victor.’ Did anyone tell the descendants of Mr Hugo?

  11. It seems to me that the Seal team had orders not to take OBL alive.
Not that there is anything wrong with that.

  12. The White House decision to send OBL to sleep with the fishes (I wonder who received the dead carp wrapped in a burka?) was a mistake. They said it was to prevent the establishment of a shrine to OBL. But, there should be a shrine. Why? When is a shrine like a piece of cheese?

  13. Not to go too ape over an operation name and I’m not p.c. at all but I agree: Geronimo was a brave warrior and honest foe and none of that applies to dipsh1t shark-bait. There’s a reason American paras yelled “Geronimo!” when they made jumps in WW2 and not “Adolf!” so I think a more-appropriate and more-descriptive name could have been found like [Terrible] Swift Sword.

  14. [Addendum: not that I agree with any of the p.c. reasons for complaining as shown by the Committee.]

  15. This is when I miss W. He would have laughed and shrugged and moved to the next issue.
Obama, will care….he shouldnt….Goodness would we have cared if some other crackpot that got tapped was given spirtually appropriate burials and let the enemey define that? It is an honor that they showed respect for the mans supposed spirtual beliefs.
If they got the letter of the law wrong, well tough nuts. They are lucky they didnt tie it by the leg to the bottom of the helicopter and go for a low, long high speed takeoff.
Come on Obama, no apologies this time. You actually did the right thing. Don’t ruin it.

  16. “I would have preferred Operation Raghead.”
    Yep,I could live with that.
Wasn’t “Geronimo” what the airborne troops used to yell as they exited the plane back in WW2 days?
Made for one of my all time favourite punchlines ,”what was the name of that Indian, again?”

  17. Nick, in addition to being an Eskimo, I’m also part Negro on my father’s side. My Grandfather was a frog from Quebec. Translation: ‘Scott Reid’ me.

  18. well…Apache gunships WERE part of the operation
and Geronimo used to hide in caves a lot…
seriously, do people have nothing better to whine about than the name of an operation ? I rather doubt anyone was looking for a deep reason behind the name when it was chosen…it’s a common word that is easy to use on the radio, is difficult to mistake for any other word in a stressed transmission and is recognizeable…I suppose the moonbats would have preferred ‘Goldstein’ ? I know I’d have preferred target ‘sh*thead’ myself but that’s just me.

  19. The person we know as Geronimo was a fierce warrior. To use his name as a code word to destroy a major enemy of the free world
should be a badge of honour not shame!

  20. To the guy that took out Bin Laden; right on Pontiac!
Surely they can’t object to using the name of a car.

  21. Time to resurrect the “Fighting Whities – everything’s gonna be all white” alternative!

  22. The code name should have been “Flushed” so they could announce their success by shouting, “Flushed! Flushed! Flushed!”

  23. And as a code name for Osama himself how about “Target Dogmeat”? Or “Kitty Litter”.

  24. I always thought that ‘Geronimo’ was the Spanish equivalent of ‘Hieromymus’, as in Hieronymus Bosch, the painter. The letter ‘g’ is pronounced as an English ‘h’. If I remember correctly, it was the battle cry of American paratroopers in World War II when they jumped out of their planes.

  25. It seems to me when you see stuff like this it means there are too many staffers and too many committees. The problem is where do you start?
A random 5% as a downpayment or more surgical?

What I was going to say.

  27. And none of you think 20 or more comments about one idiot’s remark is also a “too much time on their hands” moment?

  28. There goes those F`n Indians again. How much will we have to pay their hurt feelings nowÉ

  29. Ham Sandwich was the first choice, but deemed too offensive.
We can send the SEALS to kill someone, but we mustn’t offend. Got it.

  30. Minnisota Vikings is offencive to my Scandinavian haritage. Anyone want to take up the cause for poor little offended me? Any Irish here offended with The Boston Celts? Dallas Cowboys? Cowboys are people too you know.

  31. So does Nick the Dick mean that all the Richards are coming for me??

  32. They should of called it Operation kill the anti-Christ, that pig was evil to his core.

  33. Totally pointless discussion, who really gives a shit except for some politically correct MSM dipshits.

  34. I’d like to reply to said staffer’s concerns. Keep in mind, I am a New Jersey American. I am a proud product of a tribe of no nonsense folk. I insist that my tribal sensitivities be recognized and embraced by said staffer when I say “Blow Me”.

  35. I think Obama should apologize.(how racially insensitive of him)
Man can’t take the credit if he can’t take the blame too.
    >: )

  36. Maybe that guy should lighten the hell up! Bin Laden is dead and no one save the incredibly dense are going to take that name in a strange direction but him.

  37. Dear Fort Sill Apache Tribal Chairman Jeff Houser:
    a) It’s a compliment! They might as well have called it “Operation American Bad@ss” – that’s the sense in which it was used.
    b) Stop whining.
(Ron and Frank Q. and I seem to be seeing this one way and others another. Look, was the name “Shock and Awe” used because that was the George Bush’s nickname for Saddam?)
    nick @10:49 – hideously plausible.
Shawn @1:55 – Oh Lord another.

  38. gellen – one could of course argue that you criticizing us for having too much time on our hands for criticizing him for having too much time on his hands might indicate that you have too much time on you your hands… not that I would 😉

  39. Frankly where it was done it should have been named Operation Paki.
After all its seems he was a guest.
As for Geronimo I find it less insulting than a wave at the real Geronimo that kept the whole US army at bay for 7 years at least.
Saying Geronimo is an action of bravery or has been till the word twisters have spun the magic lies as usual. Heck as kids we would use the name when ever we where about to do something brave.
Its a tribute not a slur.
    JMO

  40. Maybe Donald Trump should try to get Obama to release the photos of Osama too.
Does anyone recall the movie “Conspiracy Theory”?
    Passenger: Love is bull****.
Jerry: Love give you wings. It makes you fly. I don’t even call it love. I call it “Geronimo”.
    Passenger: Geronimo?
Jerry: Yeah, Geronimo. See, when you’re in love, you’ll jump off the Empire State and you won’t care. Screaming, “Geronimo” all the way down. It’s great.
Passenger: Yeah, but then you’ll die. You’ll squash yourself. So what’s the point?
Jerry: Hey, aren’t you listening? I’m telling you, man — love gives you wings!

  41. Sure, just imagine if they had used “Uncle Tom” instead of “Geronimo”. I feel bad now.

  42. As an American citizen, I have a few alternative codenames for the deceased being, but I think they would all be bleeped out. Do censors also cut out slang terms from urbandictionary.com as well?
