It would be entirely understandable at this point if one or two impartial observers got the uncomfortable, nagging feeling that Winnipeg NDP MP Pat Martin has a bit of an anger management problem that rears its head most barefacedly when he’s addressing women of the female persuasion. His embarrassing, almost raging behaviour against female Conservative MP Candace Hoeppner , for example — “You just stay out of it!” — during a CBC appearance on March 7th certainly had a unease-inducing edge to it, to the point where even host Evan Soloman was compelled to make pointed reference to his rather extravagant anger.
Right around the same time, a few months after Conservative MP Kelly Block introduced a bill that would require First Nations chiefs and councilors to “make public every year the salaries and reimbursements…they receive from the federal government”, Martin chose to address her point by personally insulting her, calling her “a hapless dupe for a bunch of rednecks.” Several weeks later at a Parliamentary Committee hearing Martin was manifestly condescending, almost enraged, and – arguably – borderline abusive towards International Affairs minister Bev Oda, whom he constantly interrupted and spoke down to in a tone that was, for many, a bit unease-inducing.
This pattern of being a bit…rage-y, and on-edge, apparently continues: When Martin appeared at an all-candidates meeting in his riding on April 12, one of his female constituents stepped forward to the microphone to ask him why he didn’t return calls from his constituents, and to inquire how much time he spends in his riding (apparently, he spends a certain amount of his time in BC, where his recently-divorced wife took ownership of their hobby farm). Martin proceeded to take the lowest road imaginable by verbally attacking this woman he didn’t know, and in the most gratuitous way imaginable:
“How many restraining orders do you have against you?”
When the nonplussed women informed him that she had no restraining orders whatsoever against her, Martin allegedly said:
“That’s not what I heard”
Martin subsequently issued a formal apology in which he avers that it’s all a case of mistaken identity. As a non-Conservative MP, his apology must, of course, be taken at face value.

Is Red Tory Joe Clark Brison’s father? Is Brison Joe Clark’s son?
That was the topic of discussion on Andrew Coyne’s blog when Coyne shut his blog down for months in 2004. Coyne left his Comments open for the weekend and went off to his cottage.
On his return, Coyne closed off his blog; it was later re-opened.
Coyne cited libel chill as the reason for the shutdown.

My guess is that Rage Martin is caught in a vicious cycle. My speculation is his first love likely dumped him for being an first class ah0le. So now Rage Martin is a little defensive when it comes to the Ladies. When he comes upon another lady that he may fancy, the ah0le in him always pops up and he gets dumped again. Each time he gets rejected the simmering rage increases a bit. Every now and then, when the opportunity presents itself…..being challenged by a women , etc….. the rage boils up and he blows.
It’s either that or he is just an ah0le 24-7.
From Kim Calder:
“All candidates debate being held and put on by Gordon Bell High School (also being used for educational purposes by the school in the electoral process) 7pm.
It is now confirmed Pat Martin (NDP incumbant) will NOT be attending the event due to a fundraiser, instead the NDP have slotted Winnipeg South candidate Dave Gaudreau into Martin’s place.”
so what.
I had the occasion to actually send a follow up email to a local conservative inquiring the status of an earlier inquiry and got the very offensive and brusk response he wasn’t interested in being my (quoting now) ’email buddy’.
I then proceeded to WALLPAPER his riding with hundreds of copies of said email with a suggestion that anyone voting for him deserved the same response.
he lost the last election by a couple hundred votes.
I then coyly suggested to his camp followers the loss was because of the printed email I put in all those mailboxes.
“This is a typical Leftist response. They do not counter the argument presented, instead they try to destroy the person presenting the argument.

I think you’re on to something here joe; seems to me ALL parties do that.
Just watched the CBC thing with Candace Hoeppner and the android Evan Solomon. Martin reminds me of a couple of men I’ve known at too-close quarters: Hysterical, abusive alcoholic bullies in both cases (obviously I know nothing about Martin’s personal life; I’m just free-associating). Martin seems unable to control himself or behave in a rational or dignified manner. Maybe politics is just too stressful for him.
Speaking of respect. Layton respects PQ questions. But does he still respect the SC and the Clarity Act?
recent Inkless Wells twitter:
Rosemary Barton: @InklessPW agreed. I meant we did NOT get to Clarity today. We did consti and bill 101 stuff.
Rosemary Barton: @InklessPW it was a question from a listener. Wud u accept results. I can get exact phrasing if you want. We did get to Clarity in scrum.
Paul Wells: @RosieBarton For a few of us ’95 referendum dead-enders, there is simply no question remotely as important in any election.
Paul Wells: Hey @RosieBarton, when you get a minute (I know, not easy) would appreciate full context of Layton’s comments on “accepting” referendum vote
Paul Wells: RT @aradwanski: Is it just me, or is it a little depressing that the ‘firewall’ guy is the closest we have to a Captain Canada among our federal leaders?
Paul Wells: A prime minister needs to govern the whole country.
Paul Wells: I’ll tell you straight, I think Stephen Harper has made a hash of 40 important policy files. But on Quebec secession I trust his instincts.
Paul Wells: Does Jack Layton still believe Clarity Act “has been broadly accepted across the spectrum as a basis for proceeding”? http://is.gd/PxaGl
Paul Wells: I’m sorry, but I take this stuff kind of seriously.
Paul Wells: No mention of constitutional requirements for provincial consent for the massive constitutional amendments that would be required.
Paul Wells: Jack Layton will “accept” result of a PQ referendum on secession. No mention of Supreme Court mandates regarding clarity of question, result
Paul Wells: RT @smithjoanna: Call-in Q: if you’re in gov’t & PQ in gov’t, will you accept result of referendum on sovereignty? “La reponse est oui,” Layton says #elxn41
Good thing Martin doesn’t totally suppress his public antipathy for non leftist females. That
would be bad for his mental health. If he was a conservative with the same attitude towards
gays no doubt “research would be ongoing” to drum him out of politics at the first opportunity.

“as to “opening the constitution” for reform, the USA up dates theirs about every 7 years”
Really?
Facts and Links Please.
Actually that statement was made by GYM.
Memo to dummy Conservative ad team and messaging room.
The reason Jack Layton’s ads have been so effective is that they went beyond pointing out his opponents’ weaknesses.
He did that, sure, but followed up with another segment outlining what he would do.
That effectively painted a positive alternative.
You guys didn’t and if you get smoked at the polls and the country becomes the People’s Republic of Canada, it’s all because you can’t understand that people get p**sed off at not knowing what they’re voting for.
Another freakin’ minority when you had all the positive economic messages going for you. Pitiful.
Capice?
@ SYF:
I would expect that the advertising blitz would be taking place in the last 3 day run up to May 2 when the undecided vote is beginning to firm up their voting intentions.
John Ivison: Cats have nine lives, the Liberal party may not
http://fullcomment.nationalpost.com/2011/04/26/john-ivison-cats-have-nine-lives-the-liberal-party-may-not/
“It seems incredible to even suggest that the most successful political party in the Western world – an electoral machine which held power for nearly 70 years in the 20th century – could be in terminal decline. Yet the same fate has befallen equally successful parties in other countries. The British Liberal Party was also the natural governing party in the second half of the 19th century and first two decades of the 20th. Yet after the First World War, radical voters shifted to Labour, leaving the Liberal Party as a rump that has never reclaimed its former glory – the decline and fall of which was chronicled in George Dangerfield’s famous book The Strange Death of Liberal England.”
More at the link….Meow Pfft Meow!
Naturally, Jack Layton will need a ground game on May 2 to turn sentiment into votes.
The Conservatives have demonstrated and effective ‘ground game’ from sea to sea, over the last 3 election cycles. I expect that moving down to the wire, all hands will be on deck.

I do like the one where the gal’s doing her income tax and pondering about which party will spend the least amount of her money.
That one should be pretty effective right around this year’s tax deadline.
Me thinks he’s angry about his divorce.
Better a jewel thief than a Misogynist.
BC always has the biggest freak farm of candidates in Canada next to the Bloc.
That one Province has so many nuts running for office is no puzzle. Just look at California or Oregon.
I agree this is a Liberal tactic of shouting down people ,but with this guy it sounds personnel.
As usual the CBC & others hide the imperfection while exploiting much less Conservative People problems. Just another entitled privileged member of the howling left. Confident all he says will be filtered no matter how bad.
JMO
I wonder why he got divorced?
I cannot excuse the conservatives spending election money improperly if that in fact happened. BUT, what makes me crazy is seeing that arrogant bugger Ralph sit there as if he’s never been involved in anything slightly shady. I remember well the roll he played in ADSCAM, as well as the lead roll he played in the INCOME TRUST affair. I will forever believe that Ralph was helping certain individuals with providing them on info ahead of the markets. What I don’t get is how Regina voters keep electing that BOZO year after year.
OT
I say “bring it” if Jack wants to open the Constitution. My number one political wish is the EEE Senate. That, and only that will assuage my feelings of Western Alienation.
That said, JL is talking pure BS. It’s one thing to say “re-open” the Constitution and it’s another thing completely to “open” the Constitution. Unless of course, Jack has a plan to put the world and it’s problems on ‘Hold’.
Hopefully after the election he is just another insignificant piece of dog sh*t on the sidewalk.
Coalition government is a “disoriented government”
Now that Duceppe has enlisted the help of Jacques Parizeau, former head of the PQ in Quebec, and has become involved in this election campaign, obviously he smells blood, Canadians must be reminded of his enlightening previous comments, in regards to a coalition in Ottawa.
“A weaker govt in Ottawa is eminently satisfying. The image must be one of a weak, disoriented govt which will become weaker and more disoriented in the future. This is perfect”
how Jack wins votes with Pat Martin
Can’t see how the escape of Taliban prisoners is a setback for Jack, he may need to replace a few of his MPs if this story is any indication.

“Elections official fired for removing Tory signs”
“MONCTON – An Elections Canada information officer has been dismissed from his position to avoid a “political war” after several Tory campaign signs were taken down in Moncton near two advance polling stations.
Moncton-Riverview-Dieppe returning officer Ghislaine Ringuette Crawford confirmed Monday the head official at one of the riding’s federal election advance polls has been removed from his position for breaking federal election laws.
The information officer removed Conservative signs near two polling stations Friday as the polls opened to the public.
Campaign organizers for Conservative candidate Robert Goguen said that roughly 15 Tory signs were later returned to Goguen’s headquarters in the back of an RCMP cruiser.”

Has this made any of the msm news??
I did not know Pat Martin recently divorced, I wonder what Province the papers were filed in
Any SDA readers know how to find them in BC or MB?
Pat Martin has exposed himself time and time again as unfit for political office. Martin is a colossal A-Hole and a bully, and like all bullies he’s a coward! I’ve noticed that Martin’s bullying rage is always directed towards woman, which to me suggests some kind of pathological inferiority complex, or wife beater mentality. A truly pathetic, angry man that gets a free ride from the MSM. Martins over the top raging antics in the HOC and the committee rooms are a disgrace, and illustrate the stifling, polarizing effect one person can have within the political sphere. Stick to bullying woman Pat, you’re good at it, but then I suspect you’ve had a lot of experience with that type of bullying cowardice. Having said that, the woman I’ve witnessed Martin bullying have handled it well, and show a great deal of restraint and intelligence.
Pat Martin is representative of the angry vitriol venom spewing cobras that comprise left in this country. If you think he is unique then take a 15 minute gander at the CBC or Globe and Mail comment board.
“I live in Winnipeg-Centre, Pat Martin’s riding. The NDP could run a convicted pedophile here and still win.”
I thought they were.
The unanswered question is: ‘does Patty boyz Martin have a restraining order on him (maybe from his ex-wife)? Pat threatened the lady who asked the question – ‘I will put out a restraining order on you’ Pat said to his questioner. Pat should be cooling his sorry hide in a jailhouse. Intimidation…Where are the feministas and the Human Right pipples?
Bring on the Layton led coalition and soooo long suckers! You wanna see a firewall go up in a hurray? The ROC better remember we are having our very own election in the very near future, bring on the Wild Rose!

I, too, would be happy to see a “re-opening of the Constitution” if it meant being able to ditch the Charter. Sterling Lyon of Manitoba and J. Angus MacLean of PEI warned of what the Charter might bring to Canada, and both were ridiculed at the time. It seems to me that they were both quite prescient.
It’s pretty clear that Martin’s using female Conservative MPs as proxies for his ex-wife. ‘Can’t get at her, so he substitutes Kelly, Bev, and Candace.
What a scumbag.

Never a mention of the divorce locally.
NO MSM coverage that I know of about this apology story today. Compare that with the Winnipeg Free Press’ dogged pursuit of a certain Tory MP’s marital discord a few years ago.
GYM:
and as to “opening the constitution” for reform, the USA up dates theirs about every 7 years, and ours is long over due
Not at all true. The last revision to the US constitution was in 1992, almost 20 years ago (ironically, an amendment first proposed in 1789, that changes to elected officials’ salaries don’t take effect until after the next election); the previous one (lowering voting age to 18) was in 1971. That’s two amendments in 40 years.
Thanks for playing.
I’d like to see Martin try that on Shelly Glover….
I’d like to buy Pat a drink.
No, make that a few drinks.
This guy must be a blast at a bar. The kind of blast that requires handcuffs.
Cheers Pat!
Does Pat have access to firearms? I hope not.
Just checked out Pat Martin’s background info and sure enough — like many in the NDP — he was a union activist. In my experience, many union leaders are angry, hostile individuals who use their involvement in the unions as a way to vent their hostility and express their anti-social instincts. There is really something borderline psychotic about many of them. I think it is a personality disorder. This is a stereotype, I know, but lots in the NDP fit this profile. Pat Martin for sure.
Hoeppner seemed to be enjoying herself, though. It must feel good to see your opponent light himself on fire and destroy himself in front of so many people. Even Goodale looked embarrassed. On the other hand, Martin should be grateful so few Canadians watch CBC nowadays.
LindaL: “There is really something borderline psychotic about many of them. I think it is a personality disorder. This is a stereotype, I know, but lots in the NDP fit this profile. Pat Martin for sure.”
So, can you imagine them in Stornoway or, worst case scenario, at 24 Sussex Drive if the Coalition coup takes place? I shudder. My husband said, “We’ll have to leave Canada,” and I said, “Yeah, but where to?” There’re no hills left …
Olivia and Jack in 24 Sussex = Michelle and Barak in the White House and then the world will be totally run by crazy people.
O.M.G.
Pat’s trying to narrow down exactly who it is that his office was being harassed by but misses again, and a second female constituent wants an apology:
