Brits join ground fight in Libya
Foreign Secretary William Hague said today: “The National Security Council has decided that we will now move quickly to expand the team already in Benghazi to include an additional military liaison advisory team.
“This contingent will be drawn from experienced British military officers.”
Mr Hague said the move was needed to help protect civilians in Libya and was compatible with the United Nations resolution which authorised a no-fly zone.

I’m afraid I have to agree with you. The responses seem to always overlook the crux of the argument as it doesn’t appeal to their viewpoint and focus on a small pedantic area.
It’s quite tedious and strangely familiar. It reminds me of the red necks on the tv who have blagged an education somewhere but failed to learn some of the key valuable lessons.
I’m considered a conservative in the UK but judging by a particular protagonist on this site conservative has a different meaning in Canada.
I think Kate does a good job of provoking debate with each topic but some prefer to use the opportunity to find others to stroke their ego on what fantastic opinions they hold.
Well I’m astounded at what I’ve found it’s a little gem. It has given me an insight into how secular certain aspects of Canada are.
I mean no offense in this next statement Alex however I am a little bemused at the fact some on here believe that Canada is an Military and Economic Powerhouse.
I wouldn’t assert that of the UK, even though our military is a key player in most conflicts.
China ( the sleeping giant ) is the economic and military powerhouse of the moment and it is achieves its political aims without deploying it’s military.
I do think this is because people rightly believe after their student protest massacre they are capable of anything.

Naw. Most of my friends consider me a Conservative. I’d say I’m more of a centrist / libertarian (the sane type), but I’ve consistently voted conservative in the last few elections. Political / ideological preferences are a spectrum rather than a dichotomy. Kate just happens to fall in the area of that spectrum which attracts crazy people.

None taken. We were a key player back in WW2, and possibly Korea, but after that we let our military fall apart. As long as we’re fighting along-side a larger NATO force we have plenty to bring to the table, and our allies are generally very appreciate of our support … but if we had to go to war on our own, we’d be screwed. We’re simply too small.
Economically … we’re borderline. We definitely fall in the top-10 list of nations ranked by GDP. Our economic situation at the moment is far better than the US, the UK, or any other nation in that list, because our debt and our deficit are both far smaller. In addition to that, our natural resources (oil sands in particular) give us the potential to massively increase our economic standing in the future, and we have plenty of space to grow population wise. So no, we’re probably not worthy of being called an “economic powerhouse”, but we’re certainly a contender. Of course, we fall far behind China and the US, so I depend how close we are depends on your definition of “economic powerhouse” 🙂
