Looks like folks are beginning to figure that out – “Andres Serrano’s Piss Christ has been destroyed by Christian protesters in Avignon, France, after weeks of protests.”
Looks like folks are beginning to figure that out – “Andres Serrano’s Piss Christ has been destroyed by Christian protesters in Avignon, France, after weeks of protests.”
Allons enfants de la patria….
La resistance est leve….
I don’t relish this but it was bound to start happening.
I wonder how things would have gone off if he had done a ‘piss-koran’ instead? I don’t agree with vandalism but when will these lefties realize that Islam is also religion when doing anti-religous artwork?
Funny how the Gaurdian managed to slag Reagen in the article as well.
Why is it that Christians are always extremists, and the action of one or two taint Christianity in the eyes of the lsm. Also, why is it that the ROPMA always gets a pass when 10% or more of them agree that violent jihad is the best way to get what they want.
Generally, it’s a good thing that Christians do not act like Muslims and it would be a bad thing if they began to act like Muslims. We dont need no stinkin’ blasphemy laws.
Yes, ‘religious protestors’. That gives it an air of validity. I need to get a T-shirt made up that says that.
What has happened to the cheese eating surrender monkeys?
First the bomb the crap out of some arabs and now they defend their traditional religion?
What next, a new crusade to liberate Jerusalem form the muslim hordes?
If being bombarded with spam is the Middle Ages, then Ace’s place is WW2.
And this says alot too:
• This article was amended on 19 April 2011. The original referred to the Senator Jesse Helms as Jesse James. This has been corrected.
I’ll start worrying when they kill the actual artist…Or his family…Or his friends…Or his neighbors…Or the ones with the same colored skin/Faith/Or country of origin…
Like that other religion of Peace has been doing for a long time.
200 people died around the world for that Danish cartoon publishing.
Go ahead and smash jars of piss all you want…After all, long distance truck drivers do it every day launching them from their cabs into the ditch.
BFD. It’ll take 5 minutes to make another one.
Let us see now,
“Intruders vandalise photo day after Christian protest”.
Could it be said that the “artiste” vandalized Christianity? The religion that does not attack anyone, the only thing it does is teaches certain high value ethics. Not that there are not those that do stupid, even violent things in its name.
Christianity and those that take a sliver of it to do wrong are not mutually compatible, though it happens more often than not. This is not fault of Christ, it is fault of human nature.
“The violent slashing of the picture,”
This is what Angelique Chrisafis writes, it may have been quite peaceful (sounds stupid? not much different from the article.)
“It also marks a return to……religious right”
Is this written to fill space between adds of the paper of is the author just bloviating. How would she know if it was right, left of nothing of the sort, suppose it makes a good copy.
“neo-Nazis ransacked a Serrano show in Sweden”
Really? The author calls people names to get noticed for some kind of “literaly” prize. So far as is known the Nazis do not care about religion and are leftists.
What can one say about potty mouths and “toilet art”?
The only reasonable response to the “Piss Christ” is to flush!
Nothing a little Mr. Clean, toilet scrubber, elbow grease and a good flush can’t fix.
They should have called a janitor a long time ago…
Cheers

It took 24 years before it was destroyed. Nobody killed or seriously injured. I give it even odds that this was a setup to get fresh publicity for a stale act.
“Funny how the Gaurdian managed to slag Reagen in the article as well.
Posted by: Expert Tom”
Yeah, I wonder why they forgot to slag Bush while they were at it. It was funny they attempted to slag conservative former Senator Jesse Helms but didn’t even do enough thinking to get his name right, substituting the name of the mid-19th century outlaw Jesse James.
Default anti-Christianity, default anti-conservatism, default anti-conservatives, default cowardly silence about “the Religion of Peace”. Default MSM polemics rather than real objective, professional journalism. Same sh*t, different day.
“the photograph, full title Immersion (Piss Christ), was made in 1987 as part of Serrano’s series showing religious objects submerged in fluids such as blood and milk.”
Bullshit. He never attacked any religion but Christianity, there was no “piss mohammed”, no “piss dalai lama”, no “piss guru gobindh singh ji”……….
As the great philosoper Twisted Sister said We’re Not Going To Take It.
Do NOT rile up the Catholics, guys. Didn’t we learn anything from the Holy Inquisition?
In reading the article, no-one seemed to suggest that the artist be more ‘sensitive’. No opinion that he ‘could have expressed himself in a less offensive manner’.
Contrast that with… just about every other story in the MSM.
BTW, I am against this type of vandalism and destruction of property. Sad to see those guys are now acting like those other guys.
About time Christians defend Christianity. When are they going to defend Christians?

How long do you think the “artiste” would last if he went after child molester.
Go on, laugh your heads off while you can. If Muslims had entered a French museum and destroyed the artwork there, you’d have condemned it as creeping sharia.
If it’s okay for people you like to attack other people and their property because of some real or imagined insult to their religion, don’t complain any more when people you don’t like do it.
Yes, Piss Christ was sophomoric rubbish. So were the Mohammed cartoons.
“…And my name is Dick Slater, political correctness police”
Hey Dick…No one died for Piss Christ, the Mohammed cartoon on the other hand, 200 souls and counting including a bunch of nuns in Africa.
-A jar of piss with a plastic crucifix in it: $2.75
-A Louvre painting, any one: Priceless
Had the Christians entered a Mosque and destroyed ancient Muslim relics; I would not be joking around and I would condemn the act.
Dick Slater, ‘Piss Christ’ is a real insult, not imagined, and it isn’t an art work.
Pretending it is art is as offensive as the intended insult it represents.
As such, no harm was done by destroying it.
It’s as much an expression of free speech to destroy ‘Piss Christ’ as the insulting work was an expression of free speech itself.
Serrano defended his photograph as a criticism of the “billion-dollar Christ-for-profit industry” and a “condemnation of those who abuse the teachings of Christ for their own ignoble ends”.
By the way, the art gallery in question is funded by the city, the region, and the state.
People shouldn’t have to tolerate having their own taxes pay for insulting them and what they hold sacred.
Considering how liberals roll over and debase themselves before Islamic threats and violence I am just surprised that the wicked evil reactionary conservatives have shown so much restraint for so long.
Why are pro-life displays routinely banned/trashed on university campuses, the bastions of free speech?
“an “anti-blasphemy” campaign by French Catholic fundamentalists in the southern city of Avignon.”
While I disagree with the act of destruction of the odious so-called art, I am pleased that they actually showed up. I didn’t realize that there were any “Catholic fundamentalists” left in Avignon or all of France for that matter. I’m not holding my breath, but I am hoping that this is not the last gasp of muscularity for French culture and traditional religion.
Petit General, retournes tu?
to call this “piss criste” art, is slagging actual art
if it had been “piss mohamad”, the whole dang art gallery would have been burnt down
Let’s call it Dadaist performance art.
If, libertarians are smarter why is this one so stupid.
Then again, it is not libertarian for it knows not whereof it speaks.
Those people had no right to destroy somebody else’s property, ‘art’ or no.
~libertariansaresmarter
We’ll see if they had the right to respond to that calculated insult after the trial is over.
I’m guessing in the end they’ll walk scot free.
Point of trivia: Did you know that Avignon was once the seat of the Pope?
Yeah, I’m guessing a lot of the people who live there still remember that.
“Why are pro-life displays routinely banned/trashed on university campuses, the bastions of free speech?”
To my knowledge, there’s never been a pro-life display trashed on any campus, anywhere.
Isn’t ignorance bliss?
Why is it that dbags of all stripes feel entitled to demand of all Christians repentance for the actions of others?
For all the sh!T ordinary people of Christian upbringing have had to put up with for the last 50 years …… it’s no surprise at all that there is some pushback.
I’ll be on the side of the people doing the pushing back.
“Why is it that dbags of all stripes feel entitled to demand of all Muslims repentance for the actions of others?”
FTFY.
Catholic fundamentalists? Violent?
Oh, bite me!
Thuggery may be inexcusable but such a charge is ignored to the fullest when MUSLIMS firebomb, behead and threaten.
People got tired of “artistes” defaming Christ. They should count themselves fortunate that all that was damaged was rubbishy “art” work that would have found its way to the garbage dump anyway.
Since when did the Guardian start mentioning the faith of protesters? Oh wait.
Alex: “To my knowledge, there’s never been a pro-life display trashed on any campus, anywhere.”
Thanks for being honest enough to imply that this may have happened; you just haven’t heard of it. Chalk it up to the incuriosity / incompetence of the MSM.
Some of you may have missed the comments policy here. I suggest you reread it as many times as it takes, or be prepared to find yourselves banned.
Son’t worry, she’s talking about that troll. Osusushi Kimchi or whatever the heck he call himself …
Jeez, just rioting, as suggested…
Oh, I see Kate you couldn’t take being called out for implicitly supporting religious violence? You’re a real piece of work.
“Oh, I see Kate you couldn’t take being called out for implicitly supporting religious violence?”
Yeah, for a religion she doesn’t even believe in! (psst – but it’s politcally expedient to give the impression she does…)
What a joke!
