The World Still Has Too Many Reporters

Our tax dollars at work;

During an election, The National spends a fair chunk of its airtime covering the federal party leaders, their ambitions, their movements, their activities, policies and strategies.
This time around, our Reg Sherren is taking a different tack. He’s finding out about politics from ordinary Canadians who have been pulled into the political discussion pretty much against their will…simply for having the same name as a federal party leader.

  1. what a repugnant waste of our money. Shame. What is this, a make-work project for village idiots?

  2. I would like to propose a national registry of all people sharing (Taliban) Jack Layton’s shoe size, You can never be too careful. These subversives are slippery

  3. I wonder when they will contact Kate and ask her what she thinks about marrying prince William.

    Six hours until real news hits Canada.

  4. I think it’s CBC news at its best. It gives you the same amount of newsworthy information as other CBC articles but without being so boring.

  5. Yikes, after the Liberal Greenshift website fiasco (http://www.smalldeadanimals.com/archives/008963.html), you’d think the media would be more careful about calling attention to similarities between political and private entities. The embarrassing “Rise up, rise up” spiel alone could cause irreparable emotional distress to any other Canadian Micheal Ignatieffs.
    O/T couldn’t “Rise up, rise up” be considered a dangerous incantations during prairie flooding.
    What an insensitive SOB. 🙂

  6. and..this oughta be good! CP24 from TO is reporting that while in Yellowknife,Iggy will be ‘learning to drive a bulldozer,to fulfill one of his childhood dreams!’..uh..yeah. Can’t wait for the ‘caption contest’for that one.

  7. The same name as the party leader. Ya, right. How many Michael Ignatieff’s are there in Canada? What’s that you say? Only one? Well, surely there’s only one Steve Harper, too, right? Or Jack Layton?
    I gotta hand it to Reg Sherren, tho. That’s a pretty crafty way to focus the attention away from Iggy’s pathetic performance.

  8. Well, my name WAS Michael Ignatieff,but when I saw that embarrassing politician with the same name,I quickly changed mine.

  9. Well, I find it kind of interesting . . .
    (OK, you can all pile on me at once) 🙁

  10. Of all the stupid, over-the-top, CBC coverage of this dufus-fest of an election campaign we’ve been forced to endure, this Reg Sherren nonsense is the worst. I know Canadian elections are rarely about real issues, but this kindergarten game takes coverage of non-issues to a whole new level.
    There are three happenings that can’t come soon enough:
    – May 2, 2011;
    – CPC majority;
    – fiscal “discipline” for the People’s Network.
