Why this blog?
Until this moment I have been forced to listen while media and politicians alike have told me "what Canadians think". In all that time they never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

Oh joy, that should be fun…
Do they have a pre tax crime court, and pre tax crime lawyers, and pre tax crime rulings?
Maybe we should just revert to the PRE TAX ERA!
“Freedom” is just another word for nothing left to lose? Shades of Janis Joplin…
When does the PRE TAX TEA PARTY revolution start?

Maybe it would be easier if the IRS just took everything and paid citizens an allowance.
Dan S. don’t give them ideas, that would be the ultimate in “NANNY STATE”.
Thus every taxpayer would revert to 12-13 year old status and have their said ALLOWANCE.
Cheers

Americans can look forward to being charged with pre-evasion.
As a former CRA Investigation officer, this scares the hell out of me.
There’s not much difference between the CRA here in Canada and the IRS in the US.
Both are filled with incompetent fools who get off on exercising their powers.
This will not turn out well.
That was an utterly stupid writeup, based on basically nothing.
ZeroHedge is, as usual, bullshit.
(Seriously, some guy said they’re going to look at expected earnings from W2s and 1099s and “reject” (which I think is idiot-rewriter for “actually look at”) returns that don’t match those… and people are calling this “pre-crime”?
I’d lose faith in humanity if I had any.)
They are going after internet sales now. It doesn’t matter how much they get in revenue: they spend it.
Sounds like “Minority Report”.
My, you are an impressionable lot. Kate links to some guy who uses the “pre-crime” concept from a Hollywood movie to frame his opinion piece, and of course, everyone immediately jumps on the intended Big Government! bandwagon.
Here’s what the IRS “spokesman” — more accurately, IRS Commissioner Doug Shulman — actually said in his National Press Club address (irs.gov/newsroom/article/0,,id=238204,00.html):
“The “look-back,” which is the model of most major tax systems in the world, has some flaws. The biggest deficiency is that it does not deal with taxpayer problems up-front…This after-the-fact compliance approach can create problems and frustrations for both taxpayers and the IRS…First, in many cases, we receive information returns after a taxpayer files their tax return. We then go through a lengthy process of collating and matching all these documents to the taxpayer’s return, which can be further complicated if it’s a joint return where we then have to marry John and Mary Doe’s information to one return.
[…]
“The vision is relatively straightforward. The IRS would get all information returns from third parties (W2s, 1099s, etc) before individual taxpayers filed their returns. Taxpayers or their professional return preparers could then access that information, via the Web, and download it into their returns, using commercial tax software. Taxpayers would then add any self-reported and supplemental information to their returns, and file the returns with us. We would embed this core third-party information into our pre-screening filters, and would immediately reject any return that did not match up with our records. That’s right; we reject the return and ask you to fix it before we process it. We would then have more accurate returns and deal with many more problems up-front. We could shift resources to spend more money getting it right in the first place, and do less back-end auditing.”
In other words, all he’s suggesting is a technological improvement — building systems to get the same information from W-2s, 1099s, and other standard tax forms that the IRS currently already gets anyway, only sooner in the process, so that the info can be compared against filed returns, which is what the IRS currently already does anyway, only the comparison would happen at the time the return is filed rather than months or years later.
I don’t know if most folks remember but most of Obama’s Czars where Tax dodgers including this guy. I guess if your part of the Political class, taxes don’t count for you. Your aristocracy after all.

What we need are a few pre-tax crime czars, or are there already czars I’m not aware of?
This is nothing, currently the UK is looking at employers sending the full amount of am employee’s wage to the treasury, they take what they deem best and then send the balance to the employee…see what a great idea this is…no boo boos because the government is always right…. right….. Government is a wonderful thing. All hail the king!
Hey, seriously…the only way that all states/countries in the world could get out of the debt is to enslave most of the people.
Xiat,
Not to sound too radical or extreme but most folks are already enslaved, they just have nicer conditions/quarters so they don’t notice.
The only problem with simplifying the tax code is that it will make countless tax lawyers, accountants and forensic auditors redundant.
Really, do we need a tax code that is so confusing that the average ‘Joe and Jane Six-pack” need to go to H&R block to see if they missed something that could haunt then for the rest of their life. Don’t get me wrong but the revenue Canada schmuck or IRS peon are going after the middle class to earn brownie points so they can move up to their big fraud cases and make their career.
And of course there are the citizens who do do not contribute a cent to their public coffers but simply take as it is their God given right to live off the avails of the common man.
So the IRS is going to be doing what the Canada Revenue Agency has been doing for over ten years?
Well … it is the decline and fall of the American Empire … just lasted longer than our own dominion.
