That coupled with the “Peace Prize” would legally allow him to wipe the Middle East of the face of the earth with a bunch of tactical nukes. The left would be happy, the right would be happy, and the Muslims would have 72 virgins.

So .. Frank Fleming is saying what I’ve been saying for several years. Why put a single pair of boots on the ground in Afghanistan (or any other stone aged country where an evil but magical religion makes people want to kill and die) when an annual carpet bombing will keep the Taliban and Al Kaida from getting a useful foothold in those countries.
Life is so cheap and record keeping is so shabby or non existent in the muslim world that no one would even notice any collateral damage.
Plus when you consider that there are at lest 1.3 billion of them … well what’s a few thou a year or so.

It’s funny you mention that Abe. I lived in Algeria for a couple of years; the Muslim government would occasionally just napalm the hillsides around the cities occasionally to keep “radical” Islamist rebels at bay.
Sort of like seasonal pest control.

French foreign policy in its “former” colonies is like that.
The French government puts up with various septic dictators,
but when one gets too bad, or takes steps against French interests,
a couple of battalions of French marines are sent in. They depose – usually kill – the dictator,
install another, and get out. These operations are usually over in two weeks.
They hardly make the news.
I like the plan. Kind of gives ‘fire and forget’ a whole new meaning. You can’t help these people anyway. They’re hopelessly lost in a theocratic miasma.

So, pretty much the same as the right screaming about the Libya campaign these days. That should come as no surprise to anyone who’s been paying attention; most of the yelling and hand waiving at both ends of the political spectrum is always based on partisan politics rather than any strong ideological beliefs. It’s only the centrists and the fringe factions who tend to be consistent; the centrists because none of the parties really appeal to them, and the fringes because they tend to be anti-authoritarian and anti-government in general, regardless of who is in office.

It is not hypocritical for your so called “right wingers” to be against that. It is par for the course hypocritical for the “peacenik left” to support Obamba’s position on it. It is also hypocritical for Obamba to hold onto the Nobel Peace Prize as he bombs 4 sovereign countries simultaneously, without any congressional approval in the cases of Pakistan & Libya.
It is not outlandish or hypocritical to point that out, by any stripe.
I miss all those liberal talking heads warning us of quagmires and the brutal Libyan winter.
Why isn’t this a branded a quagmire like Republican wars always are?
