Ed Stelmach! Now is the time at SDA when we juxtapose!
Globe & Mail, April 5th – Tuesday’s announcement sent shock waves rippling across an industry that has spent vast sums of money to acquire land in the region. The prospect of having parts of it ripped away prompted one executive to compare Alberta to Venezuela, and to warn that any expropriation of land may frighten away investment crucial to developing one of Alberta’s most important economic resources.
Carlyle Observer, April 1st – [Saskatchewan] Finance Minister Ken Krawetz unveiled the budget in a cheerful mood, reporting spending will come in at $10.7 billion, while revenues are slated to round out at $10.8 billion. This sets the province up for a $115 million surplus in the general revenue fund covering the ministries. There is $54 million surplus expected for the summary accounts, which includes Crown corporations as well as ministries.

You’re welcome. We are just returning the favour. Those NDP premiers that Saskatchewan elected helped Alberta no end. Next stop WRA!
Yes, Kate, your province isn’t ruled by a feckless premier who wears gumboots to his press conferences.
Quit rubbing it in.
Go Wild Rose Party, but not too fast. Wait until some of those disgruntled companies set up shop in Saskatchewan.
That is what they get for voting in a Red Joe Who Tory.
Eds just being territorial . He’s just making sure he f**ks us first , just in case the federal liberals win.
“just in case the federal liberals win.”
In the unlikely event that this apocalyptic nightmare comes to pass, we are all f**cked.
Land rights and property rights in general have been a very very hot issue in AB with the new land use rules being brought in that give cabinet the final sayso on expropriation (no court will be able to overturn it) and many many other things.
The wildrose alliance leader danielle smith know the issue better than almost anybody and the farm and ranch community are up in arms (perhaps literally if the govt tries to push it through) and now the oil and gas sector is being attacked.
Who brought in these rules (and likely began this land rights confiscation from the o&g cos) ?
Ted Morton
Ed’s plan to conserve these parts of the oilsands region is pure idiocy.
Special Ed. I’m too pissed-off to say anything reasonable.
ah yes Special Ed and his kitchen table economists from Bruderheim , our fair share shrunk like you know what on a cold day.
“In the unlikely event that this apocalyptic nightmare comes to pass, we are all f**cked.”
This is very true. Where the Liberals to win, Ignatieff would very easily be the worst Prime Minister this country has ever had next to Trudeau.
From the G&M:
“Alberta is under harsh international scrutiny for the way it manages the development of the oil sands, ”
No. It’s criticized by the green movement and some EU politicians. And not for the way it manages the development, but for developing the oil sands at all.
Could just be a power play, send a message to Toronto, vote in the Iggula and there will be 200,000 less vehicles bought, 100,000 less miles of piping 100 million less tons of steel bought all from Ontario. think about it Ontario, as your media and the CBC publically licks the Iggulas privates every-day and trys to vote back in the theiving lieberals, Alberta might just be taking trillions off the table that would help pay your 250 billion Ontario debt.Tell us MSM, Why is there no urgency in a province with 250 billion of debt and 13 million people, when there is big urgency in California with 34 million people, and half Ontarios debt?
This is the best thing to happen to Alberta. Danielle and the Wild Rose will sweep the lefties out of power for good.
Wegrewille will never be the dame. I hopr!
Iggy is just itching to put his Cap & Trade in place to screw the Alberta and Sask and his ban on tankers to f^ck-over BC.
A disaster in the making.
Wild Rose could be the genesis for the Bloc West.
Ah, I see the Backward Province is still enviously looking westward hoping to garner a few crumbs from bad political decisions, rather than doing the hard work Albertans have already done. Typical socialist outlook that prosperity is a zero sum game.
Intelligence doesn’t equal wisdom.
Yeah, but if it saves just one tree…
Special Ed for sure.
The only trouble i have in voting for the wild rose party is that red ed pledged a few new schools for airdrie and we (our church) is going public …yes a publicly funded christian school this is in responce to the HUGE demand of local airdrie resident’s i wonder if ed is gone and the libertarian athiest danielle smith will allow this to happen?
She hates religion and god and all of that so i do worry there is a wonderful public christian school near chestermer called prince of peace and it is awsome the kids comming out of there are far more prepared for the real world than public school kids ie. in that there are more advanced in there math english ,so on and so forth skills and knoweledge . i hope daniel does not stabb the chuirch in the back on this but i will vote for her reluctantly but ed has got to go!!!
Special Ed Stelmach and his bunch of ultra maroons have totally dropped the ball time and again. What the hell happened to Rob Renner? Dude, you know better. You fix this kind of stupid by voting these fools out once and for all.

Yup. Crap wouldn’t happen if we had property rights.
Ontario Landowners are sending in the following question for the leaders debate. Feel free to cut and paste it and send it in to the link as well. The more folks who do it, the more likely the question will get asked.
question@electiondebate2011.ca
“A host of environmental legislation has deprived rural landowners of income and reduced their land values by the imposition of land-use restrictions. And since there is no legislation in place mandating governments to compensate landowners for these losses, in the vast majority of cases landowners are provided with no compensation at all.
My two questions are simple; a yes or no answer is requested.
Does the (party name) of Canada support legislation that would recognize the rights of Canadians to own, use and enjoy property along the right to be fully compensated for loss of income and loss of property value due to government-imposed restrictions?
If the (party name) of Canada forms the next government, will it commit to passing effective property rights legislation?”
Yours truly,
This is similar to the refrain in BC during the dark days of Glen Clark, the 1990’s NDP Premier.
Some smart guerilla marketers put up a giant billboard in downtown Vancouver. The billboard was simply a frame filling picture of Glen Clark beside the words “Alberta’s Economic Miracle”.
I still smile when I think of it.
Stelmach has done the impossible. He’s made Albertans despise a conservative party.
fiddle – Your comment is purely daft. What is said about electricity following the path of least resistance also applies to capital – money. Governments do not create wealth. They create policies that either attract or repel investment.
How you can blame Saskatchewan for being the beneficiary of stupid Stelmak polices is baffling. Furthermore, how is that Socialism?
“Rather than doing the hard work Albertans have already done” – you forgot to mention “with alot of Saskatchewan labour”. Now tell me again who was the beneficiary of “bad political decisions.”
I remember the night Eddie won the leadership. His first words were: “Nice guys DO finish first”. I knew we were screwed.
Except that in the fine print, because of Crown losses, SK will actually post a deficit this year.
Compenation, and lost revenues sounds like a double negative $ wise to me.
WRA!
Could be bartinsky but why don’t he just bloody say so ? Whats holding him back? he isn’t premier ofOntario he just lockked almost 8 trillion barrels of bitumen out of the damned market .
The political landscape is littered with dimwitts that got themselves elected and even formed governments. SK and BC have had their share but so have the rest of us. Red Ed and Red Ted are the current AB morons. Ed is completely out of his depth. He is simply not fit to govern.
The well (US foundation) funded eco-fascist thugs are working full-out on the Boreal forest and Oil sands targets. That Red Ed caved is no surprise. He’s following his Ontario counterpart. The question is what will Danielle do about it? Will she take on the theology that has engulfed socialism and effectively replaced Christianity, reason, science and the once free press? Or will she throw them a bone and watch them thanklessly take it and immediately up the ante for more? The road to green hell is paved with politicians taking the paths of least resistance.
Remember, Steady Eddie was the dippers choice for conservative leader. This is what comes from letting ANYBODY buy party memberships at the last minute. Hope that doesn’t happen again in the next leadership contest.
I am getting worried about the WRA and Smith they seem to be plunging into mediocrity. Worse, she drank the SoCon koolaid which is shocking given that she ran as a social libertarian.
@Paul in Calgary: if you want a school to preach your theology, you can FUND IT YOURSELVES. Smith an atheist? I wish!
I herd that danielle smith was an athiest libertarian ..in other words she apoves the destruction of the church and a mans or womans right to marry there toaster if they so choose as well as slaughtering unborn children .
and tell me if the demand is there and i am forced to pay for your secular athiestic darwinism preached in your public schools why am i not entitled to having a school paid for that i choose as well it is no different than me being forced to educate my children in a public school system like as if the darwin athiest views are the only acceptable and proper way ….give me a break bud the people want this option and it is the people who pay for public schools so why can’t christians who pay public taxes be entitled to have a public christian school same goes for a muslim or hindhu they pay taxes to you know why does it all have to go to your public secular views? and given the chance i would divert my tax dollars to a christian school but i have only two choices catholic witch i am not and do not support or public and i do not want my money going to brainwash my kids into thinking that becasue they are white they are the reason for all of the worlds problem’s nor do i want them thinking that man made globull warming is reral , also i don’t want them to be made to feel like giving blow j%b’s at lunch break is good and right and just ….get where i am comming from the public school system is a money sucking buisness that is not interested in teaching children to be all they can be it is agenda driven …but i have another option witch i might excersise as well that is to home schooll my kids and i will try my darndest to put you on the hook for my tax dollars that are manditorily sent to public schools even though my kids may not be in them but let’s see where this whole program of choice goes first.
Sorry libertariansare smarter
i am at work and am unable to debate this with you i respect your views but i feel we should have more choice when it comes to educating our kids but we don’t see cause my tax dollars go to public or catholic schools so even if i put my kids into a private school i have to pay for that on top of my tax dollars going into the public system or to the catholic system and i disagree with that i should be able to pick where a percentage of my tax dollars goes when it comes to educating my children not put em in a private school pay for that then get taxed out the wassooo to pay for public school system as well ….
Wait until your tax’s pay for that little mosque and footbath in your kids school!
Over and above paying for “special” minority private schools as they now propose in Toronto. Let’s not forget the public pool will be closed to your kids during certain times of the day, to accommodate muslim girls on your dime.
Calgary is still so 1980’s, time will catch up.
No kids? Too bad so sad for you, you WILL still pay your “fair” share to help culturally enrich yourself.
How you can blame Saskatchewan for being the beneficiary of stupid Stelmak polices is baffling.
I don’t. i blame them for chortling about it and gleefully accepting the crumbs. With that attitude all there will ever be is crumbs.
The headline couldn’t say it more plainly;
The Best Premier Saskatchewan’s Ever Had
Here’s an idea, build something new to generate new wealth. Then you won’t have to depend on crumbs.
…you forgot to mention “with alot of Saskatchewan labour”. Now tell me again who was the beneficiary of “bad political decisions.”
Certainly not Alberta, seeing as socialist ideas haven’t been totally kept out like the rats.
Libertariansarentsmarter;
You want to educate your kids in your favorite philosophy, YOU pay for it.
“Stelmach has done the impossible. He’s made Albertans despise a conservative party.”

Not to be picky but these are not conservatives.
These are Progressive conservatives i.e. Red Tories.
Alberta’s conservatives were Reformers and now Wild Rose Alliance supporters.
Ralph Klien was not the whole package but the best we could come up with at the time. I remember him fondly. Unfortunately he was conflicted because of his “social liberal” thingy.
Danielle for Premier!
@paul in calgary: I love the idea of more school choice. I favor vouchers as a transition to total privatization. So long as we have a public school system it MUST be 100% secular or you get what Knight99 described and them some.
Also, I hope what you heard about Smith was right.
fiddle – I don’t mind having a reasonable discussion on issues but it really should happen with folks who can actually “reason”. I’m seeing here that this is not possible so I will move on.
Ken: “Red Joe Who Tory”? I like it 🙂
So long as we have a public school system it MUST be 100% secular or you get what Knight99 described and them some.
Except, it isn’t secular. Whatever is most important in your life, that is what you worship. The schools are full of religion, and so are you.
@ left field bob,
You sound like Allan Blakeney when he lost the election, it was the voter’s fault. lol
