In 2005 Enstrom authored an extensive study that found no relationship between diesel particulates and premature deaths. He says his study, as well as other evidence that agrees with it, have been ignored by an agency bent on passing ever more stringent regulations regardless of their effect on California’s economy.
Enstrom blew the whistle on CARB for, among other things, failing to publicize that the lead author of the study that was used to justify the new regulations falsified his education history (he purchased his PhD from an online diploma mill).
But UCLA didn’t come to Enstrom’s defense. In fact, officials informed him that, after 34 years at the university, he was out of a job.

I had a quick glance the other day at an article by Suzuki lamenting the fact that the public just doesn’t seem to believe what scientists are telling them. I wonder why, just who gets to be considered a scientist or expert these days and who vetts all of the data. It seems much more like the old adage “just follow the money” has taken root in the supposed scientific community so in future they will have to prove to all that they are worthy of trust and impartiality.

Our local fishwrap had an issue last week full of the nuttiness that is modern green leftism. The Billings Gazette had a nice article about the horrific winter people in Northeastern Montana are suffering through, with 4 foot of snow on the ground, -50 degree temperatures, etc. Opposite this, there was a silly story about one of our lefty strongholds, the college town of Bozeman, Montana. There, the local city government is much more concerned about imaginary “global warming” than the nasty cold they have been experiencing. They plan to lower the town’s “carbon footprint” somehow, and hire a “sustainability coordinator”, whatever that may be. I know that lefties are all about meaningless gestures that make them feel even more smug, but this was beyond the pale.
Boy, I can’t wait ’til W5 or The Fifth Estate exposes the operation$$ and machinations of our Canadian Enviro-creeps.

Enstrom was instrumental in debunking the second-hand smoke scam. He was one of the original “deniers” of junk-science – before the term was applied to AGW deniers.
Now, as a result, he has been black-balled as a schill for “big tobacco”. Thus, his credibility according to those who peddle “official science”, is nil.
As a result, no traction will be gained from either his opinion or the work he does…no matter how valid that work and the resulting opinions may be.

I have a good friend who has driven long haul all over North American for many years. He recently told me that he doesn’t want to take loads in and out of California anymore because of the over regulation and harassment by the myriad of officious little bastards who delight in persecuting the working man in the private sector.

Talking about meaningless gestures, the learned fathers of Qualicum Beach on Van. Island recently purchased several Mitsubishi electric vehicles for employee use.
I checked with Mitsubishi Canada and was told they are around $40,000 per and are just slightly larger than a ‘Smart Car’. Oh, and the quick charge system which I’m sure would have been purchased, since it’s taxpayer money, ran to another $5,000 or so.
Qualicum Beach has no industry – in fact they don’t even allow franchise operators such as A&W or Starbucks in their town. Hence, they have sky high property tax rates to pay for their frivolous toy cars. I live just down the road a piece and I can’t imagine any place with cleaner air than here, what with living on the coast and the prevailing winds blowing clear across the Pacific Ocean.
Qualicum could have purchased a Yaris or a Civic for a third of the price of the Mitsu, but then they couldn’t claim to be on the leading edge of the green revolution, could they.

So CARB argues that due to the emissions of diesel trucks 2000 californian perhaps die a bit earlier than they should. I wonder if californian have to transport all there goods and products on there backs just like in the days of yours, what that does to there live expectancy.
