  5. That confirms it, Mikey More and the vast majority of Hollyweird are indeed nucking futs. Awash in cash? No debt? then what is this multi TRILLION debt I keep hearing about? Following that logic, then I on a fixed income am better off now than when I retired, what with rising prices on everything.
    In a small way I am a PRIVATE sector union supporter. Again in a limited capacity. Public sector unions in NO way get my support. They suck at the public teet, have a monopoly on their labour and at the end of the day will have a job to go back to. Not so likely in the real world where there is still a small amount of competition. If the local phone company goes under, the workers have limited job prospects. I haven’t seen many hospitals, police depts. or schools go under due to a strike.
    The only good movie Mikey More did was Canadian Bacon of which he appears to have a bit too much of. Remember getting by with less?

  8. For those of us who are sometimes puzzled by remarks from the left, here’s a quote from Moore that enlighten:

    They’re sitting on the money, they’re using it for their own — they’re putting it someplace else with no interest in helping you with your life, with that money. We’ve allowed them to take that. That’s not theirs, that’s a national resource, that’s ours. We all have this — we all benefit from this or we all suffer as a result of not having it,” Michael Moore told Laura Flanders of GRITtv.

    I think we need to go back to taxing these people at the proper rates. They need to — we need to see these jobs as something we some, that we collectively own as Americans and you can’t just steal our jobs and take them someplace else

    So, spreading the wealth around, reparations, “Pigford”, the “individual mandate” in Obamacare, bailouts of GM, GE, health and pension benefits to which service sector “workers” contribute nothing(!), and etc., are all just measures to return to the people what is rightfully theirs—a “national resource”! What’s so hard to understand about that, dinosaurs? It’s “social Justice”, man!

  22. I kind of hate to admit it, but I did watch Bowling for Columbine. It was a little heavy-handed on the anti-gun agenda, granted, but it generally wasn’t worse than other things I’d seen on the subject, especially if one accepts the premise that guns are prevalent in American society, and sometimes bad stuff happens with guns. His problem, which I assume continues in his other works, is following the fallacy of reductio ad absurdum so well. I do have to admit to curiosity in seeing what he left out.
    Where he lost me (and my ex, who isn’t strongly pro-gun at all and was less so at the time) and my respect was when he went to Heston’s house to badger him at the end. It was obvious to anyone with a couple of brain cells that Heston was ailing mentally and really didn’t quite know what was going on. And yet, not only wouldn’t Moore shut up, he left the piece in the movie. It turned out to be (I think) the last piece of screen “work” for Heston, and it’s probably the only thing many younger people have seen of him. It was smear “journalism” against someone incapable of defending himself, and I lost what little respect I had for Moore at that point.
    IIRC, the film went from there to the explanation of the title (it’s been years since I’ve seen it, so I might be wrong), so there’s almost a direct line from Heston to the shootings. That just made it worse. Since then, I’ve refused to pay to see anything he’s made, and I just don’t listen to him otherwise, since I realised that he’s just as idiotic in interviews.
    As with others of his ilk, I might start listening again when they start walking the walk. If the money of the wealthy is a national resource, let’s see you cough yours up. You and Bono both. Until then, STFU and go away.
    Oh, and if Peter Jackson can shed the weight, so can you.

  23. Moore is right when he says the earth is shaking. This is an epochal confrontation between pampered, unionized public sector employees and taxpayers who can no longer afford to coddle them. Gov. Walker and every other state governor confronted by intransigent unions must stay the course and win this battle or see their states slide into bankruptcy. These states do not have revenue problems, they have spending problems and public sector unions with their cushy wages and benefits are at the heart of it.
    Every time governments in the US and Canada put more money into a public endeavour such as education or health care, most is consumed in raises and enriched benefits for unionized employees. The pittance that is left is used to actually improve the service which is why public services are in their current sad state.
    Public sector workers are going to have to live like the rest of us. Taxpayers are tapped out.

  28. Not so long ago – in my university days – every single person in my Politics 100 class was shown “Roger & Me” and encouraged to watch other Moore videos. The documentary’s criticisms of GM and capitalism were held up as unassailable. No pro-capitalism piece was ever shown in response, only more of the same socialist ilk. And we all believed it.
    People complain about the CBC (rightly), but it’s the academy where more money is spent and your kids’ brains are being twisted under a thinly veiled mockery of “fairness” and “balance”. They are doing unspeakable damage and we’re not only letting it happen – we’re forced to fund it.
