A newly formed Vancouver-based group is challenging Don Cherry to a debate on Coach’s Corner to offset criticism that the fiery commentator is using Hockey Night in Canada to promote militarism and the war in Afghanistan.
Apparently it’s an outrage to have even one conservative on the CBC speaking unopposed – mostly about hockey – for five minutes a week.
Hockey Fans for Peace plans to rally outside the HNIC broadcast of Saturday night’s Vancouver Canucks game against the Detroit Red Wings at Rogers Arena in Vancouver to make the point that hockey fans have the democratic right to speak out against the war in Afghanistan.
Spokesman Kimball Cariou said Wednesday the group is calling on the CBC “to either stop the promotion of militarism during hockey broadcasts, or else to allow one of its members to debate Cherry during an upcoming Coach’s Corner.”
Cariou was the Communist Party of Canada candidate for Vancouver Kingsway in the 2006 federal election.

CBC mod: “Mr Cherry you have two minute for your opening remarks”
Don: “Here’s an ad hominem for all the dead Canadians that fought commie bastards like you, here’s one for the 100 million dead you purveyor of death” – pulls his sweater up over his head and pounds him into the terrazzo.
Tie Domi-like victory lap.
That’s the debate.
Q: Why do we not do the right thing and outlaw it?
A: Political correctness, moral relativism, victimology, entitlement wankers, et al.
We already know Canada is a country that allows a group (CBSC) to ban a song due to one complaint from one person (see A above).
We have a ‘conswervative’ government that would labeled Liberal in the USA and is just slightly to the right of Obama on many issues.

Hockey fans for peace?
That’s like NBA fans for slavery.
Actually, I’d like to see them pull the same crap with another CBC’er who is a huge supporter of our troops. Although, this particular person’s wit and verbal adroitness (regardless of whether or not you agree with his politics) probably makes him very feared by the lowlifes in this group. I’m talking about Rick Mercer.
Oh right, can’t protest him because he’s a gay lefty and you might get an HRC complaint against you if you say anything bad about Rick.

The CBC can have a new show for Cariou:
“Commie Night in Canada” featuring “Gulags Corner”
That should go over well…with all the Eastern Europeans who have ever immigrated to Canada!!
The guy is a nutcase who needs to get out of the propaganda bubble he has built for himself…I recommend he view the film “Soviet Story” which the CBC can air at its leisure…waiting…waiting…
Cheers

How come the only person who has to be accountable for anything on CBC looks/sounds conservative (no pun on the suits?? For the first time in my 48 years, I’d actually pay-per-view to see that blood sport. Go Don!!
That’s a good one Rick. The commies wouldn’t dare to tangle with Mercer.

More cuts to the left-liberals’ arts.

So lets get this straight:
For 6 days, 23 hours, and 55 minutes we get fed the anti-afghanistan line.
And for 5 minutes we get Cherry, who doesn’t really promote militarism or the war, but is very pro troops. He’ll even get teary eyed sometimes when one of our finest passes.
But that 5 minutes is too much?
‘He’ll even get teary eyed sometimes when one of our finest passes.’
That’s because Don Cherry has spent his entire life coaching and mentoring those the same age as our troops. The Don has a very personal stake in these things considering his ties to the community. This is something the Astro Turfing Commie Pinkos will NEVER understand.
I’m all for the debate. As long as Cherry can have the following people on his side of the table:
— A veteran disabled from an Afghan land mine
— The widow of a fallen Afghan veteran
— The 6’6′ deceased veteran’s brother who is ready to snap the neck of a Commie.
Well if they are going to protest the Canucks Red Wings game they will be a week late,as it is The Flames are in town this Saturday which means that Cherry is certainly not doing the broadcast here in Vancouver and he will be sound asleep by the time the first intermission rolls around here.
I remember a while back, I was on one of the MSN blogs and was writing about how I was worried about my son in Afghanistan. This little turd/troll asked me when he came back so he could meet him at the airport and spit on him!
I said sure, I’d love to give you the date, the aircraft# and his ETA…and good luck with that.
My son is 6 foot 2 and 220 pounds of muscle, like I said, good luck with that.
Never heard from the goof again.
Good for you multirec.
“If Kimball gets to debate Grapes on HNIC, then Ezra debates Suzuki on The Nature of Things.”
Well the first part of that is fine by me, but I would prefer to have Steven McIntyre debate Suzuki…that would be one for the ages..may as well invite Al gore too..!!
