I Can See Quinnipiac From My House

Bummer:

Saturday’s shooting of Arizona Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, in which six people were killed, could not have been prevented, 40 percent of American voters say in a Quinnipiac University national poll released today. Another 23 percent blame the mental health system, while 15 percent say it was due to heated political rhetoric and 9 percent attribute the tragedy to lax gun control.
American voters say 52 – 41 percent that “heated political rhetoric drives unstable people to commit violence,” the independent Quinnipiac (KWIN-uh-pe-ack) University poll finds. Liberals rather than conservatives are more responsible for such rhetoric, voters say 36 – 32 percent.

  1. Juxtapose this with a CBC poll results.
    ‘In other news, a massive toxic spill occured at CBC as heads began exploding in the propaganda offices. Spin at 11. Heather Malice will be in for Peter as Rex can’t stop laughing.”

  2. Sooo what explains the high death rate in subsidized housing where everyone is a Dem? The drive-by doesn’t matter..it’s Beck’s fault.

  3. Addenda to ricardo at January 14, 2011 12:36 PM:
    And zero 0% believe the obvious:
    It was because a DEMOCRAT named Loughton decided he wanted the DEMOCRAT Giffords dead.

  4. In Sarah’s video response, she cited Obama.
    A day later, Obama, more or less, told the media to lay off the blaming a particular group for the shooting.
    Could it be that he called her and said he also thought the liberal media jumped the shark BIG time on this one?
    Not because he wanted to, but because public opinion is so against the rotten liberal media.

  5. I’d like to see a similar poll conducted by, for example the University of Oregon, or any of the larger state universities actually. It’d make for an interesting comparison.
    UBC, where are you on this one?

  6. Anything that comes our of a university at this time cannot be believed.
    We all should know that by now.
    Universities are nothing more than leftist agenda mills.
    They have as much credibility as Al Gore and his merry bandits of global warmists.

  7. A little rich for Obama to say “OK, now let’s everybody stop pointing fingers” after the libel against Palin was already out there and she needed to defend herself. In other words “don’t refute this malicious blood libel that’s been spread all across the world — just leave it out there for everybody to believe and let’s all just move along.”

  8. Boy, Dupnik is dodging all responsibily here.
    We do know that Loughner made death threats to people around the country, but how many people know that if Dupnik had acted on those threats that the gun shop which sold Loughner the gun would have found a flag, according to the Brady Act, when they checked Loughner and been prohibited from selling him that Glock 19.
    How many people would the crazy out-of-control Loughner have been able to kill with a rock or a stick or a knife?

  9. Dupnik is a doofus, to be sure. But Dupnik is no more to blame here than Sarah Palin. Let’s just jive up the whole “blame the cops” thing right now.
    I don’t think people from Canada really grasp Arizona’s culture. You would have to be CRAZY to start a shootout in front of Safeway in Tucson, because probably 10% of the people within 800 feet -have a gun-. On their belt, not in the car. 40% have a gun in the car.
    And behold, the shooter really is crazy. Dupnik is not, Not, NOT negligent for having zero uniforms at this event. Laughing boy could not have been prevented from shooting Gabrielle Giffords by anything short of a full-up Secret Service detail, a 10 ft steel fence and a bulletproof limo. A schizo got Ronald Regan the same way, don’t forget.
    Could Giffords have defended herself if she had her Glock in a speed holster ready to rock? For my money, probably -not-. Like a typical Lefty, Loughner is a back shooter and nobody has eyes in the back of her head.
    Learn it, live it, love it my friends.
    And Oz, the State of Arizona has -zero- laws prohibiting the private sale of firearms. FBI check applies -only- to retailers, and it takes a hell of a lot to get on that FBI list. If Dupnik “had acted on those threats” his county would have got sued out the wazoo by that freaky family of Loughner’s, no question about it. And they’d have won in court!
    Besides which, how many freaks just like Loughner do you think Dupnik’s department handles every day? DOZENS. Probably a couple hundred on file at any given time, with red flags all over the place. They never do anything.
    Say it with me my friends: Schlitz happens.

  10. Phantom,
    After your lengthy screed you are have omitted the fundamental mistake made by Dupnik: making public political pronouncements on who he thinks was responsible, without evidence, before investigation. Since when do cops say such things when they appear before the cameras? Even FBI experts would refrain from making such public pronoucements until they had something solid.
    Dupeneck should be fired.

  11. All QU polls are based on a sample size of 4 and are accurate to within +/- 25% twenty times out of seventeen.

  12. A “schizo” got Ronald Reagan? Funny how whenever Leftys and Islamists commit political murders the Left press suddenly discovers them all to be “Schizo”. Remember Hassan the Fort Hood killer — biggest massacre since 9/11? His connections to the radical Yemeni Imam, etc.? Suddenly the Left press discovered he had a “mental disorder” — Post Traumatic Stress, otherwise known as “shell shock”. Until we found out that Hassan had never been overseas, never fought in a war, never seen combat! He was a pencil pusher.
    Pull my finger.

  13. Brady Bill(not Act as I wrote in error above)
    It covers Federally licenced dealers, manufacturers, or importers.
    Prohibits firearms from being sold to any person who:
    1.Has been convicted in any court of a crime punishable by imprisonment for a term exceeding one year;
    2.Is a fugitive from justice;
    3.Is an unlawful user of or addicted to any controlled substance;
    4.Has been adjudicated as a mental defective or committed to a mental institution;
    5.Is an alien illegally or unlawfully in the United States;
    6.Has been discharged from the Armed Forces under dishonorable conditions;
    7.Having been a citizen of the United States, has renounced U.S. citizenship;
    8.Is subject to a court order that restrains the person from harassing, stalking, or threatening an intimate partner or child of such intimate partner, or;
    9.Has been convicted in any court of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence.
    This is a Federal prohibition and no state is outside of this law.
    Ponder if there are any conditions above that would have kept Loughner from buying the Glock 19 and exactly who, if they had been acting responsibly and carried out their duties but didn’t, dserves the blame for Loughner having that gun.
    We don’t know yet who sold Loughner the gun, though.
    It may have been purchased in a legal sale that isn’t covered by it.
    Until I know more, I’ll allege it was Dupnik’s fault.
    That’s the way the Loughner Left would play it.
    If it turns out I’m wrong I’ll just say “Whoops, sorry, I got that wrong.”

    Funniest thing I’ve read all week! Thank you!!!

  15. ricardo, John Hinckley Jr. was and still is completely psychotic. The morning he shot Regan he had been wandering around town shooting at various people and things, completely randomly. Regan was in exactly the wrong place at exactly the wrong time.
    The Giffords shooter by contrast actually had a plan in place, he’s a paragon of sanity compared to Hinckley.
    The Ft. Hood guy is still totally getting a free pass in the media, as you say.
    None of these people can be considered “sane” or normal, because normal people just don’t do this. No matter how stressed or oppressed your normal American gets, he or she just does not go out and pull a mass shooting. If they did, there’d be hundreds of these every week. Kinda like in the Middle East.
    Oz, the US federal law, I say again, applies only to -dealers- and gun shows (because under federal law everyone at a gun show is classified as a “dealer”). You can buy and sell guns all day long through ads in the paper or on Craig’s List, and it is perfectly, 100% legal, no different than buying a car. Federal law DOES NOT APPLY to private sales, and private sales do not have to be reported in Arizona.
    Therefore there is -nothing- Dupnik could do about preventing Loughner from getting a gun. It should be said that despite the vast powers and forces arrayed against firearms here in Canada there’s nothing preventing Loughner North from getting a gun here either.
    So yes, Mr. Dupnik is a scurrilous liar and most likely not very bright. But, he’s got zero to do with “allowing” this shooting to happen.
    And yes, if Dupnik was a Republican the Left would be saying exactly what you said, louder and with ruder words. That’s why I don’t do that, the Left are a bunch of buttmonkeys.

  16. I have yet to see the connection between Sarah Palin and this lone gunman.
    Perhaps a poll should be conducted to see if the respondents can actually connect the dots, if there are any. Which there aren’t.

  17. Even if the firearms should have been enforced in these circumstances, it wasn’t.
    Seems to me the immigration laws were similarly unenforced, by the FEDS at least.
    Chickens roosting anyone?

  18. American voters say 52 – 41 percent that “heated political rhetoric drives unstable people to commit violence.
    Directly, maybe. Or the nutcase might see stuff in a movie, commercial or read the wrapping on a roll of aszwipe and mow down janitors on coffee. Indirectly the demonizing of center&right wing speech gots my vote, BIGTIME! (OK thats sorta the same thing..but not really)

  19. Without any proof whatsoever I am holding off on declaring Jared insane. People who know him personally (at least the ones I’ve heard) all say he is not crazy. He is a drug addict that uses substances that induce episodes similar to those suffered by paranoid schizophrenics. For some one who suffers from schizophrenia but is unable to obtain medication I feel pity. For someone who seeks to induce schizophrenia on himself …not so much pity.
