But where are the Lemmings????? Nothing means anything until the Lemmings show up!!
Someone on the TV today said the USGS gets something like 150 such reports every year. If that’s so, I’m guessing this is going to be a case of observation bias. In other words, it’s being reported and we see it, so it’s More Serious.
That’s not what is odd. What’s odd is the the even numbers always end in zero.
Could this be why the unemployment rate is down in the US? All those on the dole are required to count dead birds, fish, crabs and anything else that falls out of the sky or washes up on shore.
Of course, in Vancouver, it is an on-call, part-time seasonal job…counting severed feet washing up on shore!!!…with running shoes attached.
The Media has been drumming up these figures for a few days now. You have to wonder what the hype is for. What is this NEW crisis being sounded about, but more particularly whats behind it for real?
Never let a created, or natural disaster go to waste.
What are the Jackboots plotting now?

Mass animal die-offs are common on a global scale, as, to be fair, these news reports admitted. What I found fascinating was how, in a textbook example of a non sequitur, Doug Inkley of the National Wildlife Federation, after giving a quite reasonable explanation of the blackbird deaths in Arkansas, went on to state baldly that by 2050 some 20-30% of animal species _could_ be at increased risk of extinction due to global warming. (Naturally, no mechanism or empirical evidence for this prediction was given.)
Why can’t we standardize on a unit of measurement? I suggest football fields. Less than one football field of blackbirds died. Less than one football field of turtle doves died. Less than one football field of fish died. Less than one football field of crab died.
Every day 27 football fields of humans die.
Anybody seen Dick Chaney and his shotgun lately?
co,I can’t relate to “football fields”,would prefer “pool tables”,the 5 X 10 foot variety.
Besides, the numbers would then be way more alarming,”27 football fields” or “1080 pool tables”, as you can see,the latter is much more frightening.
Say, “chess boards” are an even more exciting measurement, must be thousands of ’em on one football field!
At least 750 people died in the 1995 Chicago heat wave.
Animals succumb to environmental shocks just like people.
They also have epidemics and pandemics. They just don’t often make the news.
I’ve seen pigeons drinking rainwater our of potholes with oil or antifreeze floating on top. They feed and drink in groups. It wouldn’t be unusual to see a mass bird death.
Over 100,000 birds are killed each year in wind turbines. Untold numbers of birds die from picture windows, sliding glass doors, and glass buildings.
I want to know what killed off all of those pigeons; perhaps we can reproduce the results in my neighbourhood.
Fascinating. I wonder if there’s a way to make 10,000 Canada geese die overnight. Get someone on that.
It is a Mossad plot.
First thing that comes to mind is for Beebe, AK to change the name of the place, it is obvious that the birds that want to die congregate there. The name might be the problem.
Next, is the mass media running interference to hide some other more important things that don’t play into their narrative?
As others noted, happens all the time for various reasons.
Watch for build up to AGW offensive.
Dying off in round numbers. I never thought of that. But wait, there are four letters in the name BUSH. Or perhaps the (1,2,3,4) JEWS: it’s definitely one or the other IMHO.
This is a serious problem, folks.I have heard through the grapevine that a mass suicide of gophers will be staged across the prairies this summer. Oh,the humanity.
I am kind of suspicious about the explanation offered for the “blue stain” about the beaks on the dead turtledoves in Italy, and that it is a sign of hypoxia.
To cut to the chase: birds don’t have lips. Now in humans, cyanosed (blue) lips are indeed indicative of hypoxia; that’s because the normal red colour of our lips is due to oxygenated blood in the underlying tissues. So unless those birds normally have tissues near their beak that reflect the colour of the blood within them, one wouldn’t expect any colour change. And the term “stain” is inappropriate for cyanosis; “tint” would better explain the fact that the colour is internally derived.
Maybe those birds got into some wine mash that got thrown out, and got all drunked up on the alcohol, or got into naturally-fermenting fruit? When I was a child growing up in B.C., we had an ornamental tree in our yard called a Japanese rice palm, which had festoons of tiny berries that would ferment. Birds loved to eat the fermented berries, and would get gooned out of their minds and fly into picture windows. Happened every fall. Either situation would lead to an actual blue stain on the beaks of the dead birds.
Does anyone here know where that green river in Canada, shown in a photo on Glenn Beck’s show yesterday, is; he (Glenn) was curious too.
It’s worse than you think, gord in knee hill. I understand there will be a mass death of large marine mammals off the coast of Florida as well. Oh, the huge manatee!
I love this site.
Oh the humanity! And that lucky 5001th blackbird!
