  1. Eventually the publics patience will evaporate, the feds will have no choice, and poof… no ceeb.
The liberal mouthpiece’s waterloo moment is only a matter of time.
And they don’t even see it coming, the dears.

  2. Did you ck out Saturday’s Saskatoon Star on the potash thing? The jingoism was nearly jumping off its pages. Even the normally steady Les Mcpherson appears to be infected.

  3. eastern paul, after seeing NPR down in the U.S. self destruct, and their public funding now at risk as a result, I’m very optimistic the ceeb will make a similar dunder-headed move. After all, the folks at NPR are probably still thinking “WTF?” in terms of what all the hub-bub’s about. The left is so insulated by a groupthink bubble, the lines of decency have long-since been blurred for them.
    I can’t wait.

  4. I loved the way he brushed them off. Their tone of voice was one of disgust and total disregard for the will of the voters. PRIVATIZED THE DAMNED THING!!

  5. I continue to be appalled by people’s hypocritical viewpoints that the govt should always intervene on issues, but only when it’s in (what they think are) their best interests.
While there are many individuals (shareholders) involved, there is really just one transaction: a sale. And so long as the buyer and seller agree on sale terms, the sale should proceed.
Of course these same people would scream if the government intervened on a sale of their own property.
If you are that concerned: BUY THE STOCK. There is nothing preventing any Canadian (or anyone)from purchasing BHP or Potash – provided they reach a mutual agreement with a current shareholder. In the simplistic world of the stock market, this usually can be achieved by simply bidding for shares at a higher price than currently listed. If enough Canadians buy enough stock, BHP and Potash will esentially become a Canadain company (neither are majority owned by Canadians now).
    Arrgh!

  6. I don’t think that Rob Ford has any big ideological goals. He keyed into the fact that people can only be taxed so much and are being way over taxed in TO and no one is being held accountable for the taxpayers money. The CBC was very smug in the interview with Rob Ford but Rob Ford should have been focused on the interview that he committed to and if he had problems with his team then he should setup a followup interview with them and meet his commitment no matter how sickening the CBC are.
I don’t know a lot about Potash Corp in the Sask but I do think that what the gov’t is saying is that the potash resource itself belongs to the people of Saskatchewan. So the mine, the equipment, the infrastructure and everything else can be bought but the resource cannot. They want to treat potash like oil or gas or timber in that royalties will be charged for the extraction of potash. I think I agree with this. In fact, I think that the Canadian mining companies in Australia have to do the same (but I don’t have time right now to verify this). I am also starting to think that the offshoring of everything to try to make a quick buck is often not in the long term interests of the people of a country because it is not an even field. Potash is strategically important to the Sask and Canada. It is growing in demand as places like Africa are developing out farmland and require fertilizers. So I think that Brad Wall and those guys should take care of their people and screw a bunch of pundits who do not have responsibilities to others and just bluster away.

  7. Dave “Of course these same people would scream if the government intervened on a sale of their own property.”
The irony is that “these same people” undoubtedly own it in their pensions and don’t know it.
It doesn’t matter if a “normal” international company buys into our resources because their behaviour is predictable (capitalist). But sovereign funds, like China, buying up our resources are another matter because they are unpredictable in that their behaviour is based on their geopolitical foreign policies which may conflict with ours.

  8. Kate, They’ve been spending money they don’t have for so long ( and other perople’s money at that) that they see no issue with selling something they don’t own.
    Snort.

  9. Former Premier of Alberta, Ralph Klein was always getting pestered by the folks in the press. “When are you raising the oil and gas royalties?”, they would whine. Ralph would tell them, “I don’t give a rats ass about the royalties”. Ralph was smart enough to realize that if you make sure that the investment is in place and the jobs that go with that investment are secure the royalties would look after themselves.

  10. The CBC and other ‘pan-handler’ type organizations freak out when they meet a politician who has some fiscal integrity.
They just can’t stand it. It portends a dusting off of the outdated resume and seeking new employment with a bottom line to consider.
That is a leftist’s worst nightmare.
It’s starting to look good for the right in Canada. I wish Harper was a conservative.

  11. People like Ford are a threat to programs like that who interviewed him and the CBC as a whole. The fact that a football practise was more important to him than the interview trivializes their role. Fiscal conservatives question most programs for their purpose and economy which of course brings the CBC into the cross hairs. $1B per year in taxpayer money for an entity that struggles to retain 5% viewership. It boggles the mind.
Why the CPC hasn’t dealt with this gravy train is beyond me. Privatize the CBC and simply tell Canadians that their taxes will be reduced by (?) dollars and watch the bandwagon support grow for doing so.

  12. Ooops Mothercorp’s Freudian projecting again. Thinking like a command economist again. Only natural a state-owned venue thinks every other endeavor is state-owned or controlled.
Do they also believe every current event from storms to fashon is the result of government?

  13. Good on Ford for continuing to coach kids football even after being elected mayor. To heck with the CBC, if they can’t arrange a good time for an interview then that’s their problem.

  14. @Roscoe: He is the coach at Don Bosco Catholic High School and he will be the coach until the end of the season. He has said that he will give up coaching because of the responsibilities of being mayor. I would like to see him continuing to coach Canadian Football at the High School level but I don’t think he will have the time.

  15. cconn: “Rob Ford should have been focused on the interview that he committed to…”
He didn’t commit to it. That’s the point. Read the text at the CBC website. Just click on the graphic above and you’ll be able to see the transcript of everything said by CBC’s disparaging, condescending, arrogant staffers. Carol Off is one of the worst of the worst of the “I work for the CBC and you don’t” bunch.

  16. Don Bosco schools work with underprivileged “at risk” youth. I’ve read about his coaching style. He’s tough with them and he turns them around. That and that alone endeared me to this guy.
Well, that and the fact that our superiours’ arrogant holier than thou leftie’s heads explode at the thought of him.

  17. I could go on, so I will. If you listen to all the interviews the CBC staffers conducted, (holding your nose, of course, and keeping the puke pail handy), you will notice a sharp contrast between their tone when interviewing Ford (ie. condescending and arrogant, pushy, asking him the same question over and over again hoping to get the answer they wanted) and the tone when interviewing Tariq Aziz’s(the Butcher of Baghdad’s right hand man) relative and the daughter of Calgary’s new mayor. In both those cases, the tone was all warm and fuzzy. With Aziz’s relative, who I believe was a cousin or a nephew, they were very sympathetic and with Nenshi’s relative they were in awe and bowing down to a god. What pukes!

  18. Brad Wall just undercut the value of all Canadian companies. When governments intervene to make it difficult for Canadian companies to sell themselves, the company’s value is diminished. The diminished value hinders borrowing, expansion, and business in general. It is Potash’s shareholders and employees and all Canadians who just got a kick in the nards.
Let the sale happen based on business principles, not politics. Most of the billions of dollars BHP pays will be invested in and help other Canadian companies reach their own potential.
I just thought these simple common sense thoughts needed to be said.

  19. “So I think that Brad Wall and those guys should take care of their people and screw a bunch of pundits who do not have responsibilities to others and just bluster away.”
Speaking from Saskatchewan, I think Mr. Wall is simply taking political cover under the PMSH, while at the same time scoring vast amounts of political capital around the country with his populous sentiment. There is no downside to the position he’s taken; since, the ball really isn’t in his court. Furthermore, a thorn in the side of Mr.Wall has been his close relationship with the Federal Conservatives. Publicly being on the opposite side of an important issue will take yet another stick away from his opposition in Saskatchewan. With one swift stroke Mr.Wall has all but ensured his re-election. Mr. Wall has been very effective with his networking domestically and internationally. He is quickly building a political resume that will be ready for the Big Show in the near future. I maintain my prediction of 09′ (or 08′) that a bid for the PM’s office is in the works.

  20. “Privatize the CBC and simply tell Canadians that their taxes will be reduced by (?) dollars”
Tax reductions mean nothing to the elitists who would defend the CBC to the bitter end. Better to pledge that, if the CBC is sold off, the savings of $1 billion plus annually would be directed to health care. Every penny of it.
Even the most rabid, left-leaning jerk wouldn’t dare to criticize any initiative that resulted in more money for health care.

  21. Indiana Homez @ 1:56 PM, I agree with your assessment of Wall. I think he’d be a shoe-in as PM. He’s highly articulate and intelligent. However, Saskatchewan needs him for at least three more terms to give the NDP enough time to die.
Did you listen to his speech about BHP? He covered all the angles, especially the massive unemployment it would cause in places like port cities in BC.

  22. Louise
It’s a waiting game here out west. I believe Alberta’s WRA, Mr.Wall and others are keeping their cards close to their chest waiting for the Federal scene to unfold. Once the Liberals regain government, then…we will see plans start to ferment. I expect that Mr.Wall will run and win in the next election and then see how it goes from there. Depending on timing, he might have to pull a Sarah Palin and resign. I’m sure Saskatchewan would be behind him for that. If the Conservatives ever get a majority under PMSH, then all bets are off. Just musing here.
Also, perhaps Wall will end-up running for President of Western Canada instead. We can wish can’t we?

  23. I happened to catch that and it brought a smile to my face…how dare Rob Ford cut the interview short…we were promised and interview 🙂 Well they got one. It only happened to be on Rob Ford’s timetable not theirs.

  24. Lets face it. To be a reporter for the CBC you don’t so much need talents so long as you lean to the left.
    SHUT. IT. DOWN!!!!!!!!

  25. Indiana Homez at 4:38 PM: “Also, perhaps Wall will end-up running for President of Western Canada instead. We can wish can’t we?”
Way back when there was a lot of agitprop coming from Alberta re. separation, I thought they were a bunch of nutcases. Until Ford’s win in Toronto’s mayoral election, I was thinking that this time I could go for it. I’m waiting to see what will happen with this new conservative, fiscally responsible movement in Quebec. If they turn Quebec into a sane province, then this country will really be a different place. The only thing left for me to whine about will be the CBC, especially the little babies that cry about a few dead ducks. I’d like to see them investigate the number of birds killed by wind turbines and from crashing into tall buildings in Toronto. Ain’t gonna happen of course.

  26. And with that Wall has made himself a complete disaster. I don’t understand any of the enthusiasm that went into his election. He’s expanded government since he took power and now is immorally meddling in the private affairs of business. The last NDP government of Sask wasn’t even so bad. They were somewhat pro-business and kept their zany elements mostly silenced.

  27. AIH started to nights program with 5 ”listeners ”calling in coast to coast even from the us.all derogatory of course, then CFRB had off and her producer on tap dancing around the issue.last night AIH had on some dude that overlooks csis she was fishing for some scandal, you could sense the disappointment when there wasn’t one.sounding board for the left time to shut it down
