  1. I don’t wear a ribbon. I wear an empty .303 Brit.
When any one asks I tell them it’s for all the victims of gun control…especially women.

  2. Somebody has figured out how to make a buck.
The baseball bat ribbon in this case possibly should be a hangman’s noose.

  3. this is pretty macabre. do we really need to politicize this girl’s murder for the sake of some forms? especially since we essentially know absolutely nothing about her death except that it was blunt force trauma?
i get it, long guns had nothing to do with her death, why are we pouring money into a long-gun registry… it just seems like a line is being crossed here. there are easier ways to make this argument.

  4. These are the only ribbons I wear.
We should get liberals the Puzzle Pins for Asperger’s Syndrome. It’s the least we could do.
I’d get the acid reflux ribbon, but someone might think I am anorexic.

  5. Acid reflux. whatever.
It’s all political. Perhaps that’s what ties in so nicely with the acid reflux crowd. That and the police stating that we shouldn’t jump to any conclusions. No no, don’t think yet, we’ll let you know what and when to start thinking.

  6. “because now it’s personal”? Seriously? Really? And they’re not kidding! ugh……….

  7. Always the tasteful one Katie. I guess ye are more a regressive than progressive so ya got that one right…good god what a piece of work ye are

  8. is this what PMS looks like?
    Progressive Menstrual Syndrome?
naturally if a liberal makes political hay out of a tragedy the SDA crowd is all over it….

  9. Kate’s evil mom: STFU
I live a few blocks away from the scene of this tragedy, and despicable criminal act.
We live in a very affluent neighbourhood, are unaccustomed to crime affecting us personally. Most of the homes around us are in the $800,000 to a million price range. We have a very good police force, and we have been fortunate to have been insulated from most levels of common crime.
The fact that this beautiful young girl was savagely killed has sent a chill though our community.
Regardless of our relative safety, I feel quite comfortable knowing that I have a 9mm pistol in my house, and, having spent 30 years in the RCMP, I really know how to use it, and under what circumstances I am entitled to use it.
    Nuff said.

  10. The mind boggles. These little ribbons have become completely meaningless. You have to carry a decoder around with you to figure out what the wearer is supporting or denouncing and who the hell cares? Keep it to yourself. You know what the Good Book says: When doing good, don’t let the left hand know what the right hand is doing — and definitely don’t advertise to all and sundry “what a good girl/boy I am.”

  11. You just have to love the irony of progressives flocking to buy the latest symbol of the cause-du-jur and helping to fill the bottom line for some capitalist entrepreneur making these things. Actually, fund raising is a growth industry.

  12. A typical lefty can’t wait to put on a ribbon, and end it there. Heaven forbid they would vote for tougher laws and longer sentences for violent criminals. Not a chance, give that 17 year old 3 years for murdering his whole family with a sledgehammer.

  13. I don’t have any bumper stickers on my truck; I don’t wear lapel pin ribbons and I don’t go through life telling everyone I just evacuated my bowels. What’s more I left my lights on during earth hour.

  14. Wow, trolls are out today, eh?
Hey trolls, you get to tut tut about Kate making this girl’s murder political? And you also get to tut tut at Kate for pointing out an MP making his father’s suicide political?
I don’t think so, trolls. Nobody gets to have it both ways.
Issue every girl over 16 with a pistol, make combat shooting instruction -and- self defense fighting a mandatory part of gym at school from the age of 10. Gun awareness instruction to start in junior kindergarten.
Or is that too direct a solution for you? F-ing saboteurs.

  15. I wish that poor girl had been packing a gun, and had gone to a few markmanship courses. Mind you, she might have been jailed for saving her own life and ending some scumbag’s, but she’d be alive.
We civilians have got to find ways to stop being so helpless in the face of thugs. Gun control makes us walking targets.
No more useless make-all-men-feel-guilty “take back the night” marches: Let’s get armed, women.

  16. Oh, anyone I see with that ribbon is going to get a crash course in Gun Control Awareness all right.
When I’m done talking to them, they’ll be aware of facts that they weren’t aware of when they started sporting their Gun Control Clueless Ribbon.

  17. Where do I get a KC Chiefs ribbon? Yahoo!!!
Seriously, I feel terrible for that girl and her family.
Pahantom said: “Issue every girl over 16 with a pistol, make combat shooting instruction -and- self defense fighting a mandatory part of gym at school from the age of 10.”
Exactly, my 15 yr old has started shooting this fall, soon to be followed by her younger sister. Firearms are the great equalizer for women!

  18. I was going to start a green ribbon campaign to raise awareness of the national tragedy of nasal congestion, but those organ and tissue donor bastards hijacked my colour!

  19. The best one I heard of was a tartan coloured ribbon. When asked what it meant, the guy said it was to remind him to buy a bottle of scotch on the way home from work.

  20. At least the mousepad doesn’t read “Young Pioneers For Gun And Anti Party Elements Control. ……………..Yet.

  21. Sgt Lejaune said: “At least the mousepad doesn’t read “Young Pioneers For Gun And Anti Party Elements Control. ……………..Yet.”
It does, actually. That part isn’t specifically stated in print, but it is understood.
The ribbon really means “O great and all-powerful Liberal Party, save me save me from the scary bad mean people in the world especially those dangerous Conservatives with their scary scary hidden agenda!”
Actually that’s pretty much what -all- those friggin’ ribbons mean.

  22. With all due respect to the thought-police (RCMP) does anyone have more info on this? Just wondering what the motive was

  23. glacierman, that is a truly chilling story.
There’s zero detail, but at a guess I’d say the kid decided to stand on his rights, showed them his carry permit and told them to go pound salt.
    Mistake!
Unsaid rule of concealed carry Numero Uno, never, ever EVER argue with the cops, EVER, no matter how insane they are. When in doubt or if the policemen seem really shaky and weird, lie face down on the ground with your hands on your head as smoothly and quickly as you can.
Because otherwise they might very well KILL your @ss, and if they do they will most certainly get away with it. See Jonathan Logan’s case for Ontario example.
Besides, when you do the full monty and they taze you anyway it makes the lawsuit much more lucrative. Added bonus you are alive to collect.
As an aside, I used to have a lot of respect for cops, but living near Caledonia and watching the OPP operate has washed most of it out of me. Cops are more of a worry than criminals. They aren’t worth the hassle if little girls are getting their heads crushed by baseball bats in broad freakin’ daylight in a city park. Come on.

  24. I have a Gary Larsonesque cartoon in me right now, just bursting to get out. I have to figure out a time to post it though, when I have a week free to fend off reader outrage.

  25. Confederate Yankee has been following the Erik Scott Costco shooting referenced in the Vox Day column by glacierman above.
There are currently 3 updates and a couple of other posts on the shooting.

  26. Phantom….you are an idiot.
Next time you get into trouble call a gang-banger…that should work for you. Idiot.

  27. Kate, if you put your cartoon on a t-shirt, I bet SDA regulars will pay money to be outraged.
SDH, excellent link. Seems the victim definitely broke the “do not scare the police” rule big time.

  28. Interesting choice of color for this vacuous ribon crusade. In most cases the ribbon they wear will be the the only gray matter they own.

  29. Bruce, you didn’t read what I wrote.
When -cops- point a gun at you, you lie down on the floor and put your hands on your head. Carefully.
Gang bangers you shoot -before- they point a gun at you.
See the distinction? Cops are different than gang bangers.

  30. Another meaningless gesture…baseball bat registry to prevent crimes.
    Cheers

  31. They must be animal heart to beat up this teen this way
for harrasment like gang to stop kid not to talk
The people around them did not do anything to stop are responsible for it
school drug and alchol and birth part drinking kid and jelousy may cause this
blame to society not control teen and youth control anger as well
    this is hate crime
nobody has right to beat up anybody even if he or she may deserve punishment since it may be deadly
those people who beat her must arrested for
    assault with wepeaon dangerous
    murder homecide case

  32. Revnant:
Our parks here are somewhat different that those in the rest of Canada (I have lived in several other provinces). For example, the park right beside my house consists of about 1000 acres of heavily forested area, with the trees about 100′ high. The park is accessed through trails; going into the bush is akin to trekking thru Algonquin National Park without accessing the trails
Mackie park, where this young girl was murdered, is similar…the forested area is not that large, but the forest is very dense. It is not manicured, it is, of itself, a natural forest.
So it is not a stretch to believe that no-one would have seen anything.

  33. Bruce
You know the area. So Ill take your word for it.
Edmonton has the third largest intact river Vally system in the World. Trust me though as large as the trails or as long bikers, walkers, runners populate them. Here with over a million folks someone is always around. Including 4000 bums nesting in the River Vally.

  34. I agree Revnant Dream…..there is ALWAYS someone watching just about anywhere…it’s a crowded planet. In the fullness of time somebody will talk….
    Phantom…
    the Erik Scott Costco shooting….
The only mistake Scott made was allowing his shirt to ride up and expose his piece to a loon who notified the security goon who went tar-paper….
Scott was shot within seconds of being challenged….no time raise hands or lie down.
Independant autopsies indicated 4 shots in the back—with the subject lying on the ground.
A retired OPP Sergeant confided to me that SWAT team members really WANT to shoot you….
It seems Las Vegas thinks what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas…..the security videos disappeared/damaged??….
Erik Scott would have stood a better chance for survival at the hands of the Taliban…….
