Evelyn Beatrice Hall Who?

Also, today’s required reading.
Update: Looks like everyone got what they wanted – submission! Sure glad that’s over, so that moderate Islam can get back to its regular enforcement schedule.
I hope you all enjoyed the spectacle of western world leaders stepping up to display their sharia compliance bona fides as much as I did. “Don’t do it or they’ll hurt us.”
We’re all so much safer for it, yes?
Following is my (slightly edited) emailed response to a friend in media, who remarked privately, “like i said kate..the whole so called principled stand was a hoax”…
I don’t care if Mickey Mouse had sparked the controversy. The issue is the reaction of our political and media betters.
Shameful and frankly, frightening. As one of my commentors just remarked, “Islam has now been officially sanctioned as the most powerful religion on earth and if we offend it they can kill us and we deserve to be killed.”
They should have kept their mouths shut, at the very least. They have an obligation to defend our constitutionally protected rights to freedom of expression.
Instead, they have telegraphed to barbarians – some of whom have the arsenals to do real damage – that they will cow into submission the acts of even the most lowly and unimportant of our citizens to avoid confrontation.
Indeed, the fact that it WAS this fringey pastor who set this international incident off is the most disturbing aspect of all. Unlike the flag burners and bible burners and crucifix defilers that number in the tens of thousands, he did nothing but state an intention. And look at the force they brought down on him to prevent it.

  1. I find it disturbing there are so many already trained Dhimmis. Much of the general population and pretty much all leadership in the west. In my estimation the future doesn’t look bright. Our betters have sold us out and they have plenty of supporters. We’re running out of time to nip this in the bud. I just can’t see any of it turning out well.

  2. “a dozen nuke cruize missiles at the ready”
Good luck with that. Most of the countries on the Arab peninsula are armed to the teeth with A-grade US military technology. They might know how to use it to their advantage.

  3. I borrowed the following from a comment above,
This Pastor already won. His whole point was to show how much people have submitted to Islamic sharia.
    Exactly.

  4. If the pastor had only applied for a National Endowment for the Arts, describing the burning as “in the spirit of P*ss Chr*st, only even more in the face of conservative fundamentalists bitterly clinging to their guns and religion”, he’d have gotten full approval and a multi-million dollar art grant.

  5. Shakedown: Nice little Ground Zero ya got there. Shame anything should happen to it.
This is what lawfare looks like.

  6. I’ve been taking the somewhat contrarian position from early on with this issue, thinking that it was counter-productive whether you’re a staunch conservative or not … but of course there are wheels within wheels in this evolving drama, and the Lord works in mysterious ways.
Those of us who are evangelicals will probably continue to pray that the pastor will be a suitable weapon in the Lord’s hand, but that alone does not answer the reasonable question, to burn or not to burn? We should not confuse outrage with victory. Our goal must be victory in this struggle. We are not losing. The terrorists have made few friends (sure they have one in the White House apparently) and even fewer strikes. Increasingly, the average person caught between the two ideological camps can see which is generally right, and which is generally out to lunch, as witness that 75% of New Yorkers (not exactly Palin-Beck supporters en masse) want the mosque moved away from Ground Zero.
So I tend to take all this bluster as being predictable 9-11 anniversary anger coming back to the surface — we will be stuck with this until Mecca is a parking lot for Disney World Middle East or whatever, but we should keep our heads in the game, Islam has been poking away at the western world since the 8th century and this is one of the few times they have been chased back onto home turf.
The pastor or at least some conservatives who should surround the man in NYC (because he seems a bit short of a full load) can now exploit whatever trickery or duplicity has been shown to him in this supposed meeting of the minds. He should compose his mind and spirit and say what the world needs to hear, that Islam is a bogus religion meant to glorify Satan, not God. That would be worth the equivalent of burning a million Korans (and keep the atmosphere unpolluted too).
So as I say, the Lord works in mysterious ways. Meanwhile, the folks back in Gainesville have probably kept their Walmart intact for another year or two.
This is going to be a very turbulent three days. But the reality is that we live in a phase of history that could very well be the last of this age, and the dawn of the next. This pastor and all of us can do little to bring that on, or to prevent it. For all we know, the Lord could be at the very gates and appear at any time … at any time … for one of the signs given is that the devil and his angels would appear on the earth, knowing their time was short, to do battle with Michael and the righteous angels. If you take Michael to be an allegory for the saints of the modern world, and transfer the imagery to the battle at hand, then you see that we are not really fighting a battle for hearts and minds, we are already marked for harvest, good or bad … the clusters may already be identified and the harvest may be at hand. And in that work, the pastor is but one pruning shear.

  7. So, if I downloaded a copy of the koran from an islamic website and then deleted it, would the seventh century barbarians still riot?

  8. Posted by: devil’s advocate>
Obviously I was commenting tongue in cheek. You of course continue to prove your idiocy by taking my comment literally and giving the school yard lecture.
Again this is why you are not taken with any seriousness. So now we wait until the next SDA thread and the next obnoxious, self righteous tutorial comments from DA. Great can’t wait, will hold my breath.
I do note that I’m the only person to respond to DA, hmmm maybe it is me? Silly me.

  9. This is all rather stupid. There is really only two scenarios at play here. On one hand if the Bible is true, this my be the beginning of the end times. On the other hand, the west just needs to toughen up and kick some ass. At times I think we are our own worst enemy. If we let radical Islam win then we are a bunch of wankers. Ideally we could all be adults but the radical jahadies are currently throwing their toys about.

  10. For the oh so tolerant and righteous media and our political elites, rather than demand no Korans get burned how about a compromise and comparison. Lets burn some bibles too.
I will announce that I am going to burn a single Koran, and a stack of 1000 bibles along with 1000 images of Christ.
Who should I fear? Christians or Muslims?
Who’s reaction will the rest of the world fear? Christians or Muslims?

  11. My question is where are the woman’s libbers? The Islam outfits treat women worse than cows; women stuck in this cult are crippled non people who can be beaten to a bloody pulp for sticking their heads outside without a black sheet over their heads and a dark tent draped over their bodies. Women are scorned/shunned by men and not respected by other women – often the hubbie’s ‘other wives’ – they live their entire lives in slavery and terror. Why would anyone in their right mind defend the ‘book’ that advocates cruelty and misery -by law- against half the population? There was a lady on Hannity tonight that stated plainly what this miserable, nasty cult is about. Where are the bra burners?

  12. just watched the local Calgary News and they had the iman Sowahardy (the guy who went after Levant),on screen and he was saying that his people were hoping that the pastor makes the right decision and they are all for peace and tolerance.

That is a thinly veiled threat. He is saying, tolerate (and eventually submit to) our ways or there will be no peace. That is,and has been the islamic message forever.BTW,no mention on ctv or the Calgary station of the 17 Christians in Russia killed by the ROP today while they were shopping, but if I were to burn 17 korans while shopping, the news media in Canada would be all over it.

  13. “Even your gods Palin and Beck have condemned the intentioned Koran-burning. Guess this officially makes you guys the official dead-ender lunatic fringe.”
    ~charles f thompson
OR an alternate explanation would be that Palin and Beck aren’t our gods and we don’t engage in the groupthink that is the hallmark of your Leftist mindset.
Now why don’t you go back to licking the spittle off of your Koranimal Master’s boots.

  14. When it comes to Muslims they must be taken seriously. Brigitte Gabriel said today on Hannity. Do NOT burn the Koran. READ it.
Therein arming yourselves with exactly what Lslam IS and what they intend. And then do something about it.
Stand with the 9/11 families and stand firm. They are US, you and I. We are AT WAR and there is no room for pantywaists and cowards.

  15. The continued belief and support of superstition in the modern era signifies the beginning of the end of mankind as we know it.

  16. Vic at 9:57 PM: “Your anti-Muslim thing normally isn’t my cup of tea Kate, but I’m with you on this one: this is bullsh!t. For so many reasons. If the safety of western civilization can be jeopardized by a single instance of one dude planning on burning a Koran – in the age of Piss Christ and while they burn the American flag – we’ve got a serious problem to deal with.”
Glad to see you finally woke up, Vic.

  17. // Brigitte Gabriel said today on Hannity. Do NOT burn the Koran. READ it.
Therein arming yourselves with exactly what Lslam IS and what they intend. //
Yeah. And read the NT to find out what the US & Europe plan.
This is an extreme version of all the nonsensical quotes from the various Holy Books that purport to explain contemporary politics.
    A quote from 3 months after 9-11
// Several weeks ago I was interviewed by a Danish journalist who told me that she wanted to read the Koran, and I said, “Why on Earth would you want to do that?” and she said, “To understand.”
    “To understand what?”
    “September 11th.”
But she couldn’t buy the Koran in Copenhagen because it had sold out. So I said, “In a sense you should be relieved.” But then she said, rather earnestly, “Don’t you think it’s a good idea?”
“It’s a terrible idea.” She looked rather puzzled. “Let me put it this way, would you say that in order to understand Denmark we should read the Bible, or Hans Christian Andersen?”
    ‘Oh, Hans Christian Andersen!’
“Exactly. Why not read a novelist?” So there is an interest, but it’s the wrong kind. The idea is that every Muslim wakes up, reads the Koran every morning and goes out and does ‘it’. Whatever ‘it’ is. //

  18. The Day and the Hour
    September 2, 2010
It should be pretty clear that the studies found in the book and this website look to this Feast of Trumpets 2010 (September 9th) as the time of the Rapture of the Church.
That is less than a week away. Time is quickly running out…
Jerusalem sunset is 1853 on September 9th.
    Anyone Else Still Here?

  19. Hang on….if the Mosque is moved because of the threat of quran burning then we now know that standing up to them gets us what we want. You just need to be prepared to do unsavory things, I find burning someone elses “holy book” unsavory as I do threatening families or flying airplanes into buildings.
Lesson….you want to contain the radicals and islamist supremecists….be prepared to be tough and do the tough thing.
Obama…well Obama found it important enough to lecture Americans on the importance of freedom of religon with the GZ Mosque, seeing it only as a legal issue, but finds it important enough to try to jawbone the nutty pastor, finding that one to be a moral issue. And he wonders why he is at 41% and that Amercicans see him as not representing them. It is staring him in the face.

  20. Holy “bat-shit insane”, Tonto? Insane Muslims are, Tonto?
    Ugh, Kemo Sabay.
“The only reason people are so willing to say that Terry Jones is crazy is because we all know how bat-shit insane Muslims are.”
    …-
    “72. Morton Doodslag
The only reason people are so willing to say that Terry Jones is crazy is because we all know how bat-shit insane Muslims are. I don’t think he’s crazy at all. Just a man who sees the hideous way Muslims consistently behave in the world, who A.) can’t think of a better way to address it, and B.) knows that nothing short of giving them a dose of their own medicine will suffice.
Ancient rules of talion. It works. It’s not polite to say it, but when 15 Saudis flew our planes into our buildings on our soil, we should have bombed 15 royal palaces. When 3 thousand of us died, we should have made certain that 30,000 of them died within days. The only way to beat back the sprawling poisoned tentacles of Islam is to whack Muslims every time they crawls out of their box.
In addition – the dynamics which the Muslims have created are inherently unstable. If one pastor with a following of 50 can pretty much ruin everything we’ve been trying to accomplish since 9/11, doesn’t this say more about the insanity of Muslims than it does about any small-time pastor? If one guy can push a button and get the entire Muslim world to go berzerk for something the Muslims do to us every day — then how well can high-grade bull-shit like “winning their hearts and minds” ever work????
We’ve spent a trillion dollars and sacrificed thousands of our bravest to bring some semblance of civilization to the Muslim sewers in Iraq and Afghanistan. What does it tell you about the prospects of coexisting with Muslims when one man can put all the blood sweat and tears into the ditch with one rustic action in a remote Florida town?”
    “Koran Non-Burning Day”
    http://pajamasmedia.com/richardfernandez/2010/09/09/koran-non-burning-day/#comments

  21. On a clear night you can hear it out here in the country: the sound of millions of Weztern Liberal sphincters quivering as one.

  22. Any society that puts a book burner – which always has and alway will be a non event – on the same level of wrong as the promoters of stoning women has completely lost all sense good and evil.
Burning a book causes no one with a developed mind anything. Islam on the other hand is the representation of evil unchecked. There may be moderates but they have absolutely no power so they are irrelevant. In fact since they are irrelevant one has to ask why they stay. Could be that like the hotel Calfornia you can never leave. With your head that is.

  23. To show my repugnance for the ideals of Islam, burning a Qu’ran does not go far enough. After burning it the remaining ashes should be soaked in dog’s menstrual fluids and then buried in pig manure. Islam is an idea whose time never was.

  24. You leftards just don’t get it but you will when your rights are taken away because your rights aren’t Sharia Law compliant. I watched Western leaders go before the public and grovel at the Islamic Supremacists’ feet, secular Muslims weren’t the ones threatening to kill, butcher and maim innocents because they were outraged the Islamic Supremacists in foreign lands threatened us and our leaders capitulated and hit the dirt in appeasement. Not one single leader said Freedom of Speech is enshrined into our culture, thus burning the Koran might be deemed offensive but it’s their right to do so. No our weak kneed leaders groveled and sniveled Freedom of Religion and freedom of thought are important, notice Harper nor Obama mentioned Free Speech. So my dear leftard Canadians we’ve surrendered our rights to violent medieval barbarians in foreign lands that will kill us regardless of what we do or do not do.
Freedom died yesterday, wave the flag of glory leftards but remember I won’t lift a finger to help you when they come for your rights lest you offend the most evil political/religious ideology on this planet and beyond.

  25. All anyone has to do to bring upon WWIII is burn a Koran in public?
Good luck stopping that from happening.
    Awesome,looking foreward to coming train-wreck!

  26. But then it comes as no surprise that SDA attracts extremists of its own sort.
Posted by: Davenport at September 9, 2010 3:17 PM
Extremists…jeez! give your head a shake you tool.

  27. That train-wreck can be averted…
I recall a situation a long time ago and far far away….
The muzzies were crucifying suspected communists, christians AND their families…..including children…with enthusiasm and no pity.
That ended my daliance with Islam.
That next morning…the local immams were found nailed to trees before the local mosque…castrated and disembowled…
The anarchy subsided and in time ended.
    Our investigation/enquiries yielded nothing……
    Desperate times…desperate measures….
In my own way, I am an honourable man….

  28. I see Sofa is still here, along with another fairyland imbecile I can safely ignore, Devil’s Advocate. Good to know, always inmportant to avoid wasting time on trash.
DN – your post is sheer poetry.

  29. Er, who and what is a dizzy? Wasn’t dizzy a troll of some sort, one of that crowd with the super-appropriate names like Felchmeister and NAMBLA Supporter? Now just a confused creature who copies and pastes from irrelevant posts on other sites.
WTF diz, better get off drugs before you dig yourself a permanent hole in Non Sequitur Land and the boys in the white coats come for you.

  30. Interesting sasquatch. Is that a time and place that you can further illuminate, or is it a “nothing more to say” sort of thing?
You know, it’s said that Blackjack Pershing also knew how to handle radical Muslim militants.
And back in the early 80s the Islamists in Lebanon were taught a pretty candid lesson by the KGB about the risks of any further attempted kidnapping of Soviet diplomatic staff.

  31. I am posting here to tell you that I mostly agree with everyone else here.
    However……”

DA it seems that with so much conditions(otherwise known as “howevers”) to your “agreement” you, in fact, disagree with almost everything.
Now, what is it you said you agree with????.
    ******
Even your gods Palin and Beck have condemned the intentioned Koran-burning. this officially makes you guys the official dead-ender lunatic fringe.
I am sorry, dear, but neither Palin nor Beck are gods. You must be talking about liberals who do think some people are gods. I think that here majority of us believe in GOD (or G_D), and even those who do not believe think Palin and Beck are human and can be mistaken.
As for burning Qu’ran —-. many Americans got scared. Many westerners are scared. The estranged daughter of this preacher got scared too. She said in an interview that her father gone mad and need help. I am not surprised. Until now many westerners did not understand what religion is. They thought that when someone talks “religion” it is prevailing in Western Europe wishy-washy “stuff”. Many can not understand it viscerally. It is like some are saying that to understand Denmark we should not read the Bible but read Hans Christian Andersen. So to understand Islam/Muslims we should not read Quran but….the novelists? What novelists? And yes, majority of Muslims do wake up and make a prayer once, twice – five times a day, in fact. They are religious, you see. Majority of Dutch are not. So why shouldn’t we read Qu’ran to understand Muslims? .
Myself I thought burning of any book is stupid, but I am not longer certain of it. Because if the rumor of burning starts demonstrations, burning flags and shouts of “kill the infidels”; if even a threat of something which some people do not like results in intimidation and blackmail then perhaps we need to do it. Even if it is stupid. Even if it may threaten our lives. Because the worst thing to do is to announce an intention to do something which is lawful and then back up, because of the threats. Because blackmailers rarely stop at one blackmail. Usually if they can get one small thing with the first blackmail, they continue to up the ante.
Do we, living in the west, really want that kind of escalation?

  32. An individual’s burning of a book is a symbolic condemnation of its content.
It is not the equivalent of a state ordered destruction of books.
The first is freedom of expression, the second is censorship.
We should never get the two confused.

  33. Kate
I have read something which may be relevant to the discussion:
freedom’ as used in the personal political and wholly personal sense common in The West (as opposed to slavery vs freedom; they would recognize a distinction between being a slave and not being a slave). Supposedly the nearest translation to ‘freedom that we would recognize actually equates more closely to what we would call ‘justice’. …….What the French call freedom (hurriyya), says Shaykh Rifa’a, is the same as what Muslims call justice and equality before the law, government according to law, and the abstention of the ruler from arbitrary and illegal acts…”

  34. Well, it seems according to Drudge today that a whole buncha people burned Korans yesterday, and a few of them even went down to the White House and did it in front of Barry’s front window.
All that official prostrating and crying “Don’t do it, you’ll make them MAD” demonstrated to be 100% futile in the face of a torqued off American public. As expected.
Best part as far as I’m concerned is Pastor Pigface from Gainsvile FL climbed down off his publicity stunt, and now looks like a total wanker. In doing so he took with him the credibility of the entire Western ruling class as presently constituted. Just in time for the 2010 mid-term American election. Awesome!
Let the Muslim rioting and @ssholery commence. Show us what ya got, imam weenies. Bring it.
