I do remember one small aspect of that horrible story. Of course, most, if not all, of the non-captive parents kept vigil outside that school. When the Russian Special Forces went in and the shooting started, some of the fathers outside captured one of the terrorists who tried to get away. They beat him to death. I’m not a violent person but imagining myself as one of those distraught fathers outside the school, I’d have done the same thing.
I didn’t know about the mass rapes of the children. In those actions, those Islamic terrorists really went as low and vile as a human being can go.

I agree with you that it would be a tragedy if Israel or the US or Iceland prevented Iran from getting their hands on nuclear weapons because Iran is clearly a sane counterbalance to an otherwise insane world. But, at the end of the day, islam is as islam does no matter how some would prefer to deflect rather than looking at what islam actually is and what islam actually does on a day to day basis.
I wish the Official Muslim Organizations would join us and watch those videos and feel the horror and shame they should feel for advocating the spread of a religion that could do such inhumane things in the name of Islam.

Taking out cities and villages only applies in total war where you are at war with a nation; a situation we are not even close to. Furthermore, Muslims are victims of Islam even more so than non-Muslims, especially the children and women.
Purposefully killing innocent Muslims will have no effect on the purists … in fact, they’ll rejoice. They already have no problem loading a house up with civilians as shields, then shooting at our forces from inside that house. The clear purpose is to get as many of their own civilians killed as is possible.
The turning point in Iraq came when the Sunni militias began to recoil from the actions of the extremists, and right about the time of the surge, they “came over” to the US side. It was through steadfast adherence to our Western ideals that US soldiers won over the Sunni … not by flattening villages. That’s why their heroism is that much more to be lauded.

@ Rose: I get your point, I really do but state sanction is not what grants salafism it’s strength. Even if they weren’t raising money here they have virtually unlimited petrodollars from the gulf states. It would be great to curb their influence here but we’d have to include so-called “moderates” like CAIR, CIC, IAW protesters and imams too and it would be a huge political battle.
Also, Islam itself is a personality cult. It’s all about Mohammad’s empire its immortality. It has zero moral standing in my book. Additionally I’m really skeptical as to whether the Ahmadiyya sect will really gain any kind of of widespread acceptance. The Christian Reformation gained a lot of strength due to the backing Germanic princes for various political gains. Plus I think the current strain of Islam suits the rabble and its rousers just fine. It’s hard to see a big movement toward peace take hold even while ignoring the idiotic identity politicking that goes on.

Your policy is dangerous anyways. Not that that’s necessarily a bad thing but you would inflame so-called “outrage” and attract more enemies. If you flatten one city you’d best be prepared to flatten them all. On that topic Mark Steyn said that a slaughter on that magnitude would irrevocably change our society. Kind of like Rome and Carthage I suppose. That may not entirely be a bad thing though given our state of affairs.

@ Gord: The thing about National Socialism is that you can make peace with it. I did a lot of studying on Beslan today.
Vladimir ‘Samoshkin’ Khodov who led the attack grew up in Beslan and went to Beslan School #1, the school the attack occured.
The Beslan attack was planned by Shamil Basayev who also masterminded and led the Budyonnovsk hospital hostage crisis in June 14, 1995 where his terrorists held 1,600 people inside the hospital for a period of several days.
At least 129 civilians died and 415 were wounded during the crisis as the Russian special forces repeatedly attempted to free the hostages by force.
According to the US State Department, Basayev trained in Al-Qaida’s terrorist camps in Afghanistan in 2001.
Around November 2, 2002, Basayev was also responsible for the Moscow theater hostage crisis (although the siege was led by Movsar Barayev) in which 50 Chechen rebels held about 800 people hostage; Russian forces later stormed the building using gas, killing the rebels and more than 100 hostages.
On December 27, 2002, Chechen suicide bombers rammed vehicles into the Chechen Republic’s government headquarters in Grozny, bringing down the four-story building and killing about 80 people.
Basayev claimed responsibility, published the video of the attack, and said he personally triggered the bombs by remote control.
Shamil Basayev was killed by an explosion on July 10, 2006.
Controversy still surrounds who is responsible for his death, with the Russians claiming he was assassinated by the FSB(formerly Soviet KGB), Chechens claiming he died in an accidental explosion, and other sources claiming a rival insurgent group assassinated him.
