Uh oh…
Nova Scotia’s energy minister said Friday he thinks a variety of measures — including possibly revisiting emission standard goals — should be considered as the province grapples with potential energy rate hikes.
After meeting Tuesday with a number of business and community groups concerned about the effects of an increase, Bill Estabrooks wouldn’t take a position when asked whether emission targets needed to be eased in an effort to reduce costs.
But Estabrooks now says it’s his opinion that all options should be considered and that the government is obliged to do something to help many Nova Scotians make ends meet.
“Everything is on the table,” he said in an interview. “As a politician you can announce targets and state policies, but when it comes to people and policies it seems to me at times that people get lost in the shuffle.”
He suggested the government was “going to have to do something,” though he didn’t have a specific suggestion about what to do about emission targets.

Oh oh is right. This is what it comes to when feeding the AGW fraud. No doubt British Columbians just love paying 15 to 17 cents a litre more for their gas.
This is called “backing your stupid gullible ass, back through the door of the real world”, when you have been so dull as to believe a “CBC shaman Soozookee” and the king of late night hotel horn dogging “Gore”, vice president of emissions of burned jet fuel, bulls..t and semen on clothing. Election time is a coming and the windmills of fate are going to slice the ass of of every stupid polititian across this country that got sicked into the SCAM GLOBULL WARMING! That is fright in Bills voice.
The perils of being a morally superior greenie . . . ..
Talk about cognitive dissonance.
It is more than a little ironic the the CP link you are using is from the Winnipeg Free Press. Given the challenges MB Hydro has been saddled with here in MB I wonder if this is a wake up call for utilities everywhere in the country.
While the MB media only gave the shutdown of the JenPeg generating station one brief blip in the papers (due in part to the fact that the story was squeaked out on July 2nd… hmmmm) and adding in the over budget office tower in Winnipeg with poorly or non functioning state of the art environmentally friendly features, the ongoing saga of a whistle blowing former consultant, and he potential disaster of a 2 billion dollar mistake on placing a transmission line on a much longer route than necessary.
Yep. Troubles a brewing.
Sorry, that should have been sucked into. South of High River there lives an eco echo whacko who built a straw house and put up a windmill, windmill is a no-spinnin and the power poles have long been drilled into the the earth-saviours place for 6 years now. Just east of High River was another eco echo whacko that was ready to lead the masses off grid, with a flute and 90,000 dollars worth of pixie panels and bird blenders, I bet my wife there would be power poles into his place within 5 years 2 years ago, Voila, the poles were being drilled in on Fri. Renner, Albertas enviro minister, is more nervous than an alley cat behind Kinsellas favorite restaurant about now.
Yeah, the gov’t will do something. Create a new bureaucracy to hand out cheques to low income earners to offset their carbon taxes (and HST taxes)….I called this way back. Only certain people will have to carry the load for all of these green taxes. Wealth redistribution at its most evil….
bartinsky said “more nervous than an alley cat behind Kinsellas favorite restaurant about now”. Now, that is funny.
You would think that the stupidity of this nonsense would sink in sooner or later.
What Soccormom said: I agree. The middle class is slated to expire under this scenario. “Youse will be payin’ mah mortgage, an’ puttin’ gas in my cah”. Well, at least until “we” run outta money.
Then what? Tumbrells and guillotines, I suppose. Either that or “left”, “right” at the end of the rail line.
Governments, doncha jist love em?
This points up the fact that a cornerstone of prosperity is access to a relatively cheap, reliable energy supply, wether that be for first world urbanites or more importantly, third world peasants. Hobble that and one effectively hobbles economic prosperity right the way along the food chain. Hobble economic prosperity and all those “social programs” eventually wither on the economic vine. Unfortunately, as po’ed has hinted, the socialists have no qualms about choking off the whole vine while they wring the last drop of sap out of it. Then things turn really ugly.
“Bill Estabrooks wouldn’t take a position…”
Big surprise. Just another idiot pol who got the watermelon disease. Particularly precious is the lib leader’s comment re the “previous Government”.
In my industry – insurance there is a saying that you can runaway from claims but you can’t hide – meaning that ultimately regardless of what you do if you have high claims you are going to have higher premiums. It is always better to face up to the need for a premium increases sooner than later otherwise the rate if increase can bs very punishing indeed.
Same goes for power costs and usage. Juristictions like NS are just starting to have to deal with that reality. NB and ON and others are not far behind. The first thing that will be thrown overboard will be uneconomic programs like “green” halo projects and initiatives. This is an encouraging phenomenon to watch.
It is a rather damning indictment of the incompetence of our political class that a country as blessed as Canada seems incapable of producing cheap power.
To understand this better….the eco-fee in Ontario doubled the price of a bag of cement.
